I always got the impression that Paul Qualley couldn't handle Andie's success and the realities of her job (shooting on location, working with famous guys) and that was what killed the marriage in the end. He never seemed to get a grip on a post-modeling occupation while they were married and maybe that was part of it too. At first when they described him it was as an aspiring actor & musician, then he was building houses, then...? I think he was mostly caring for the kids while she worked and resented it.

Andie always did seem like a sensible, devoted mom who was committed to trying to raise her kids as normally as possible and keep them from being showbiz brats. I never would have imagined she's encourage them to act, or do a lot of the stuff she's done to help them along or push them, but she has. I've read that she encourages Margaret to date famous guys because of the publicity it brings (Andie was surprised at how much press she got for dating Dennis Quaid after she got divorced). So mama may not be giving Margaret the healthiest advice, and if dad was a jerk, no wonder she's making these sketchy choices.
