Inspired by the Sandra Lee thread. Well, do you? Why or why not?
Do you wash your meat before cooking it?

Ooops, forgot to make this a poll.

No because there’s no need to. If I ever saw someone “washing” a dry aged steak I’d have to kill them.

If I buy chicken breasts at Costco, I always rinse off that slimy "solution" they're packed in.

Of course not, unless I drop it in a sand box.
However, due to the virus, I do wash the plastic covered pack that it comes in with soap and water and then rinse it before placing it in my refrigerator or freezer.

Yes, I wash all raw meats, seafood and produce; better safe than sorry. Don't neglect attention to e-coli and its ilk while we are preoccupied with covid.
And as for "poultry-washing splash," everyone and her father keeps a package of bleach wipes on the kitchen counter for quick antivirus cleaning.

Sometimes I soak beef to get the blood out depending on the dish. Also helps to reduce the "beef" flavour which can be unpleasant.

Sure. Why not? Same reason I wash vegetables.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 20, 2020 7:13 PM |
I run it through the "sanitize" cycle in my dishwasher.

OP is the distressed poster over in the Sandra Lee thread, pissed at people who sensibly wash their meat before seasoning and cooking it.

I've read that washing it is more dangerous than just cooking it. The heat kills surface germs anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 20, 2020 7:28 PM |
I always soak chicken is salt water to get rid of extra blood.

Me too. I work with a Trinidadian lady who swears by rubbing lemon juice on her poultry and soaking it in salty water to get rid of the blood.

It depends.
Are you fucking your calves' liver before cooking it, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 20, 2020 8:06 PM |
I've never heard of this chicken salt water soaking. Tell me more.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 20, 2020 8:12 PM |
The salt water acts as a brine to draw out the blood. I'm assuming the lemon is an extra cleansing method.

Watch the video at R3, this is all discussed.

This obsession with even a tiny drop of blood!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 20, 2020 8:40 PM |
I wash it and pat it dry before I salt and baking soda it.
Then I was the dry brine off the next day, pat it dry and cook it.
I wash grocerie store meat twice.

Seriously, MARY?!
The refrigerator and/or freezer will kill any virus on the packaging, if it can even live on the packaging.
Jesus.

I haven't heard of salt water for chicken, but I have heard of rubbing with salt, allowing to sit and then rinsing it off.

Omg who doesn't? I wash everything I buy from the produce department. Meat vegetables everything that does not come in a can or bottle. Who knows who's been handling it where and how.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 21, 2020 7:00 AM |
I rinse my cans before I open them so no rat hairs or feces are pushed into the can when opening.

I don’t think you know what produce is.
