Tasteful Friends: the ghost of CZ Guest weeps at what has been done to her former penthouse

Once upon a time this was one of the most prized penthouses in one of the most exclusive buildings in Manhattan. On Sutton Place overlooking the East River, the exterior views are still spectacular, but the interior ones, not so much. It has had a "contemporary facelift".

In this Candela building built for the Phipps Family, the residence is on the market for $45 million.

Omg. So. Fucking. Ugly.

The view is nice.

by Anonymousreply 1December 19, 2020 11:50 PM

Very Clockwork Orange. I like it except for the gray carpet.

by Anonymousreply 2December 19, 2020 11:51 PM

That’s all Lisa Perry’s doing.

It's hideous and laughable.

by Anonymousreply 5December 20, 2020 12:00 AM

Awful.

by Anonymousreply 6December 20, 2020 12:07 AM

It's fucking awful.

by Anonymousreply 7December 20, 2020 12:11 AM

I hate it all except for the white leather sectional.

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2020 12:24 AM

It's not THAT bad

by Anonymousreply 9December 20, 2020 12:26 AM

OP: Mary!

by Anonymousreply 10December 20, 2020 12:31 AM

If CZ Guest was a proper lady, how do you explain this painting by Diego Rivera?

by Anonymousreply 11December 20, 2020 12:32 AM

hidjus! JUS' HIDJUS!

by Anonymousreply 12December 20, 2020 12:34 AM

It's like a child decorated it.

by Anonymousreply 13December 20, 2020 12:35 AM

Dammit,R2 stole my thunder. I thought I'd be the first to note the resemblance to the production design of A Clockwork Orange.

by Anonymousreply 14December 20, 2020 12:36 AM

I like the kitchen and the library

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2020 12:43 AM

The furniture looks like it would be uncomfortable.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2020 12:46 AM

Open the pod doors.

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

That was a GORGEOUS property before. You can update it without looking like the inside of the MOMA.

I'm SHOCKED that this was an American and not some Russian oligarch who did this shit.

Get the pitchforks. Lisa Rachel Newberger Perry needs to be taught a lesson.

Oh - and Lisa? Your husband looks GAY AS FUCK!

by Anonymousreply 18December 20, 2020 2:06 AM

I don't vehemently dislike the interior as much as some of you. For me, it's more that it feels totally mismatched to the location and the building. It feels very Miami.

by Anonymousreply 19December 20, 2020 2:09 AM

Decreed: People who organize their books by color of the spines must die.

by Anonymousreply 20December 20, 2020 2:11 AM

Jesus fuck that is hideous.

by Anonymousreply 21December 20, 2020 2:17 AM

We were discussing an apartment below this a while back. Someone said it was being combined with the penthouse above. Guess not.

by Anonymousreply 22December 20, 2020 2:19 AM

Here's the thing - it's has NO STYLE except to show off some pop art. White everywhere and no warmth.

Look at the outside of the place - it's an amazing penthouse exterior.

I hate her without knowing her. She is a show-off, pretentious bitch.

by Anonymousreply 23December 20, 2020 2:20 AM

The buyer will be able to wave to Judge Judy across the way. Her view is basically this apartment.

by Anonymousreply 24December 20, 2020 2:44 AM

Why would you pay a fortune to get a view of goddamn Queens?

by Anonymousreply 25December 20, 2020 2:51 AM

I love the kitchen and of course the view. The rest sucks.

What Lisa Perry does is great for a concept store but not for a storied pre-war apartment. Geez.

by Anonymousreply 26December 20, 2020 3:02 AM

R15 You like the library? Are you in the habit of choosing what you will read by the color of the book binding? Because that is how the books are assembled. That is the library of people who don't read. That is a travesty of a library.

by Anonymousreply 27December 20, 2020 3:06 AM

I always try and picture the type of personality that might fit in with these "Tasteful Friends" properties. Whether it be a pop star, actor, old money or new there's always a "type" for every house. But I'll be damn if I figure out who in the world with $45 million to spend on a penthouse would see this and just "have to have it"

The closet I come would be the love child of Liza Minnelli and Andy Warhol

by Anonymousreply 28December 20, 2020 3:07 AM

Liza Minnelli's former NY apartment where she lived for decades was actually very nice.

by Anonymousreply 29December 20, 2020 3:12 AM

I’d move in. It looks comfortable to me. I’ve seen much more offensive rich person habitat.

by Anonymousreply 30December 20, 2020 3:46 AM

[quote]If CZ Guest was a proper lady, how do you explain this painting by Diego Rivera?

Where in this thread did anyone say she was a 'proper lady'?

by Anonymousreply 31December 20, 2020 3:56 AM

this apartment looks very low grade art gallery. You do NOT do this in a limestone building.

by Anonymousreply 32December 20, 2020 4:07 AM

If you love cheap dry wall, you really aren't an architect, dear.

by Anonymousreply 33December 20, 2020 4:09 AM

[quote] We were discussing an apartment below this a while back. Someone said it was being combined with the penthouse above. Guess not.

The apartment in the north wing below the penthouse was bought by the Perry's. Since it is not listed in the sale or separately, it's possible they are moving into after they sell the penthouse.

by Anonymousreply 34December 20, 2020 4:13 AM

The décor screams one word: vapid.

by Anonymousreply 35December 20, 2020 4:23 AM

I like the checkerboard floors. Feels like a 50s diner!

by Anonymousreply 36December 20, 2020 4:28 AM

Hideous. This apartment is almost as deformed and disgusting as Lisa Perry's face.

by Anonymousreply 37December 20, 2020 5:45 AM

If a woman whipped this into existence, she is both frigid and uninteresting to the male sex. If a man were to create this, iits possible he has a sex life but violence will be involved, if not also chain saws.

by Anonymousreply 38December 20, 2020 8:03 AM

@r29, "Liza Minnelli's former NY apartment where she lived for decades was actually very nice."

Well, maybe her bastard child could use mom's help with the decorating

by Anonymousreply 39December 20, 2020 8:20 AM

[quote]The closet I come would be the love child of Liza Minnelli and Andy Warhol

They would have some actual taste, I suspect. This is the work of someone who is always, now and forever, a wannabe. The coffee table with books on Mary Quant and Chanel displayed under the glass top is so awful it gave me second-hand embarrassment.

by Anonymousreply 40December 20, 2020 8:25 AM

Oh for god's sake.

by Anonymousreply 41December 20, 2020 8:29 AM

I feel nauseous.

by Anonymousreply 42December 20, 2020 8:47 AM

I must have a fever; I could swear there was a giant orange titty in the center of one of the rooms.

by Anonymousreply 43December 20, 2020 9:10 AM

R18 that was my reaction too.

I'd be doing more than fucking weeping if I was the ghost of CZ Guest. I'd be the poltergeist from hell

I cant find pics of what this place looked like before this woman fucked it up, but going by the pics in this article linked of one of here other properties it would have been beautiful.... once

What a fucking waste

And yeah her husband sure does look as if he would be damn good at sucking cock

More of a pop art museum than home but jeez, that is one gorgeous real estate video.

by Anonymousreply 45December 20, 2020 12:11 PM

Too white.

Obviously not suitable for anyone with children, women who have periods, nudists, or people who snack on the couch. I'd be so fucking paranoid about getting dirt or whatever on all that white that I'd never be able to relax and enjoy the place.

by Anonymousreply 46December 20, 2020 12:24 PM

Ugh, it’s like a nightmare in white.

by Anonymousreply 47December 20, 2020 2:16 PM

It’s FABULOUS!

by Anonymousreply 48December 20, 2020 2:20 PM

We’re very comfortable here.

It does look very Edina Monsoon.

by Anonymousreply 50December 20, 2020 2:36 PM

You have to be awfully rich to be able to afford such bad taste as that.

by Anonymousreply 51December 20, 2020 2:58 PM

Wouldn't you be able to tell by the looks on the faces of your guests that you fucked up in a big way?

There's only so much you can hide with your emotions. She probably gets off on it and says to herself that these people don't understand ART.

by Anonymousreply 52December 20, 2020 3:48 PM

From the pictures I've seen of the apartment when it was CZ Guest's, it was really lovely. It's a crime what that tacky tasteless couple did with it.

by Anonymousreply 57December 21, 2020 1:35 AM

I'm probably the only one who loves it.

by Anonymousreply 58December 21, 2020 1:41 AM

^^ I guess there's a lid for every pot. Do you love it $45 million worth?

by Anonymousreply 59December 21, 2020 1:44 AM

^ I rarely look at the price on these Tasteful Friends threads..

by Anonymousreply 60December 21, 2020 1:50 AM

I didn't want them in, but I was overruled by the rest of the Board.

by Anonymousreply 61December 22, 2020 1:51 AM

That artwork makes me want to burn down the world.

by Anonymousreply 62December 22, 2020 2:52 AM

Owned by the same tasteless couple who bankrupted Barneys. She is a designer who makes cartoonish 1970's era clothing. He's a sort of hot former billionaire.
