The overload of interracial couple commercials are getting cheesy at this point

I’ve seen 3 within the past 20 minutes. They seem so forced and “woke” and it’s almost always a black woman and white guy instead of the other way around. Who does the media think they’re fooling? They’re so desperate to look inclusive. Yet we still rarely see gay couples in commercials.🤔

by Anonymousreply 87December 23, 2020 7:27 AM

It's offensive. I researched this, and B/W couples are around 4% of couples and a high number of black and white people say they find interracial couples a turn-off. Also, you rarely see any other minority but black on these commercials.

by Anonymousreply 1December 19, 2020 11:30 PM

OP is dreaming of a white christmas.

The same shit about gay representation in media is said over and over. It's "so forced and woke".

This shit reads no differently than a typical post on an alt-right message board.

by Anonymousreply 2December 19, 2020 11:36 PM

It's pandering.

by Anonymousreply 3December 19, 2020 11:39 PM

R1 Exactly! It is offensive, as well as not reality. As you say, there are not THAT many interracial couples.

R2 Guess what? Whether you want to believe it or not, I’m black. So try again.

by Anonymousreply 4December 19, 2020 11:40 PM

Welcome to the New World Order!

Just Kidding. Seriously, advertisers are really pushing interracial couples at rates that are wildly disproportionate to the actual number in the general population.

Interestingly, white man/black woman is a favorite, but statistically it's the lowest demographic among interracial couplings. I think I can count on one hand the number of white man/black woman couples I've seen, and this is a metro area in a blue state.

by Anonymousreply 5December 19, 2020 11:40 PM

Why are you replying to yourself r4?

I’m sick of you all crying about interracial couples but not about gay couples... which are even less than interracial

by Anonymousreply 6December 19, 2020 11:41 PM

R3 is correct. And it's always a white man/black woman because people find that less offensive than the other way around. Black women don't like to see black men with white women. Neither do white men.

by Anonymousreply 7December 19, 2020 11:43 PM

They're not showing interracial couples to "woke", they're doing it because advertisers know they should show diversity, but instead of having an advert with a black couple or an Asian couple or a Latino couple they refuse to have an ad not centered around a white person in some way shape or form. That's why you see a predominance of interracial couples in advertising.

by Anonymousreply 8December 19, 2020 11:43 PM

[quote] Black women don't like to see black men with white women. Neither do white men.

I'm just going to go ahead and hang myself here, but the only white girls I've ever seen with black guys are real lower-class, bottom rung types. They're usually grossly overweight as hell, too. I'll hang myself even higher and say that as soon as the white girl pops out a rugrat, the black babydaddy splits and is never seen again. I have friends who work in social services and they say this is such a common thing they don't even really notice it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 9December 19, 2020 11:47 PM

It’s a thing. In Ireland which is still very homogeneous outside Dublin they had an ad last year with a white dad with one kid so black skinned it couldn’t possibly have been his and the other kid Asian. Too much! But as things go these ads are so far down my list of complaints. I agree a much better and realistic approach would be to leave out the white person and show a mix of races rather than interracial all the time.

by Anonymousreply 10December 19, 2020 11:48 PM

Why aren’t you skipping ads, dummy? I agree that it’s stupid, but just skip ads and they’re gone.

by Anonymousreply 11December 19, 2020 11:50 PM

WHY IS IT ONE PERSON ON MOST OF THESE COMMENTS?

And it’s the “ is everyone” troll at that.

by Anonymousreply 12December 19, 2020 11:51 PM

Black/white is the new black.

by Anonymousreply 13December 19, 2020 11:53 PM

I have friend who work within acting agencies, a lot of agencies aren't putting forward white actors anymore if the race isn't specified, so what you are seeing is, on top of companies trying to appear woke, they are only seeing the options put to them and they aren't white.

by Anonymousreply 14December 19, 2020 11:58 PM

*friends

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2020 12:00 AM

You can't skip ads on many services.

I find it super annoying, as well. It just feels like such pandering, it drives me crazy. It's not like I'm not going to buy something if I see a totally black family or Asian family or Latino family (or couples) portrayed in the ads. I likely wouldn't even notice it. But the interracial couples stick out like a sore thumb.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2020 12:04 AM

I think the US is about 70% white. Unless they stopped buying crap, whites still have most of the buying power in the US.

by Anonymousreply 17December 20, 2020 12:17 AM

R4, why do you think anyone is shocked that you're black? Was that supposed to be your record scratch post where you blew all our minds?

The other poster's comment still stands: you sound like any MAGAT on any alt right message board.

by Anonymousreply 18December 20, 2020 12:37 AM

It's marketing. Advertisers are trying to appeal to viewers of multiple races.

The corporate bussleguts want the proletariat masses brown, not white and black, for consumption and labor.

It is overdone.

by Anonymousreply 19December 20, 2020 12:52 AM

If all couples were interracial, white people would disappear in a generation or two - the black and Hispanic races would not be affected. Seems like white people should find this pushing of interracial coupling oppressive. The ones who do are labeled "white supremacist". Yes, I know, "Race doesn't exist" - but only when their races aren't threatened with disappearance. Of course Native Americans, who don't tolerate this type of shit being thrown at them, are allowed to want to preserve themselves. Maybe when white people realize that the white population around the world is quickly shrinking, they will stop feeling compelled to virtue signal themselves into oblivion.

by Anonymousreply 20December 20, 2020 1:57 AM

R12 You’re the actual troll, friend. And, you should see someone about that condition, because it could get a lot worse.

by Anonymousreply 22December 20, 2020 3:02 AM

R9 Unless of course said black man is rich and/or a celebrity - then white women of any class are suddenly happy to be with a black man.

by Anonymousreply 23December 20, 2020 3:05 AM

[quote]It just feels like such pandering, it drives me crazy.

To me it doesn't seem like pandering, it feels like they're being condescending - like they think the average viewer is bigoted and they're determined to show us that if we even notice there's an interracial couple in their commercial, we're just incredibly unenlightened and behind the times.

by Anonymousreply 24December 20, 2020 3:27 AM

[quote]I think the US is about 70% white. Unless they stopped buying crap, whites still have most of the buying power in the US.

There's a large contingent of white people who aren't racist. Why anyone would find the appearance of non-whites in commercials offensive is kind of baffling.

by Anonymousreply 25December 20, 2020 5:46 AM

Damn. Lots of racists on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 26December 20, 2020 5:51 AM

The racists doing that "70% of Americans are white; therefore, 70% of people in commercials must be white, otherwise it's woke SJE propaganda" crap are tiresome.

by Anonymousreply 27December 20, 2020 5:55 AM

R26 How is it racist to bring up the cheesy, over the top pandering?

by Anonymousreply 28December 20, 2020 5:55 AM

[quote]they think the average viewer is bigoted and they're determined to show us that if we even notice there's an interracial couple in their commercial, we're just incredibly unenlightened and behind the times

What the fuck? You feel like a commercial about a Honda or something that has an interracial couple is calling you out for being a bigot? Buddy, you've got problems.

by Anonymousreply 29December 20, 2020 5:56 AM

It’s just a commercial, get over it. White people have been in the media constantly for 80 years. Just having some diversity is a good thing. Don’t forget to wash your white hood this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 30December 20, 2020 5:56 AM

[quote]Damn. Lots of racists on this thread.

On THIS thread?

by Anonymousreply 31December 20, 2020 5:57 AM

R30 Nobody’s opposed to diversity, just pointing out how try-hard these commercials are with the countless interracial couples. And if it’s about diversity, why is it always a white man and black woman in these commercials? Why not the other way around or a mix of other ethnic groups or more gay couples?

by Anonymousreply 32December 20, 2020 6:00 AM

As a single fat whore, I hate all of these cutesy couple commercials anyway so the interracial thing is a non-issue.

by Anonymousreply 33December 20, 2020 6:07 AM

R31

lol. I thought that same thought word-for-word. The only group that dataloungers hate more than black people are trans people. And if you were both of those categories? Woaaaaaahhh... watch out for nooses. If they had any guts, some of these ignorant throwbacks would be forming lynch mobs.

R32 "Nobody's opposed to diversity..."

This is datalounge. At least a third of the people here are opposed to diversity. Rarely can you scroll past a dozen thread titles without seeing one that's thematically dedicated to bashing on marginalized social groups. It's like a hate group for middle-aged-to-elderly white gay men.

by Anonymousreply 34December 20, 2020 6:22 AM

STFU Oooze.

by Anonymousreply 35December 20, 2020 6:50 AM

R34 What is apparent is that at least an uncomfortably high percentage of dataloungers get their news directly from far right hate sites. Then there's the British racists shitting all over the place, too

by Anonymousreply 36December 20, 2020 6:51 AM

R36

Yeah, the hate-bait thread starters here usually create threads that are trending topics in alt-right online rags.

I don't think that most dataloungers are dedicated neo-nazi trash like those thread starters and a handful of regulars. But a helluva lot of gullible moderate democrats pile onto those threads joyously. They're more the type that I like to refer to as 'whimsical bigots'. On any given day depending on their mood, when they happen to stumble on some active, barely disguised bigotry, they think to themselves, "Hmm, does my palate feel inclined towards this flavor today... Oh, I don't know... Oh, alright, don't mind if I do! Those damned woke pink-haired BLM! Commie pinko! Trans! Damn vegans!"

Usually, I think that type just has vague, ill-formed resentments floating in their mental background most of the time, but they're just given a focus occasionally and they indulge it full-force for stress relief. That's my theory anyhow. I'm probably being overly generous in that interpretation. ::shrug::

by Anonymousreply 37December 20, 2020 7:25 AM

In the UK almost every single representation of ethnic diversity means a black man with a white woman. Although there are more South Asians than there are black people, TV and movie representation of minorities is almost always black. Even in professions like medicine where Asians make up a large percentage of doctors especially compared to blacks, television shows will feature black doctors instead.

It's lazy pandering to think that diversity = black.

by Anonymousreply 38December 20, 2020 7:37 AM

How pissed would blacks be if the representation was proportional and there were two Hispanic people for every black person in commercials? And, why isn't there 83% trans representation as there should be??

by Anonymousreply 39December 20, 2020 7:48 AM

White supremacists love trying to divide minorities by scapegoating one as more privileged in the racist caste system whites installed and maintain.

by Anonymousreply 40December 20, 2020 7:52 AM

[quote] they think the average viewer is bigoted and they're determined to show us that if we even notice there's an interracial couple in their commercial, we're just incredibly unenlightened and behind the times

Why on earth would someone who’s trying to sell you something want to call you out as a bigot, unenlightened, etc? Maybe that’s the effect some commercials have on you, but it wasn’t intentional on the part of the ad agency. Advertisers don’t want to make potential customers feel bad about themselves while thinking about their products.

by Anonymousreply 41December 20, 2020 7:53 AM

Why don’t advertisers get creative and try something actually different, like an Asian woman and Black man couple or a Black and Latino gay couple? The white man and black woman couples are tired.😴

R42, because white and black are The Big Two, everyone else gets scraps.

by Anonymousreply 45December 20, 2020 8:13 AM

R42 Because blacks and Asians hate each other, now we arent meant to say that because then it depicts the two races, which aren't white, as less than perfect and that's not how it is meant to be.

by Anonymousreply 46December 20, 2020 8:24 AM

I've noticed that too, R36, and sometimes from such marginal websites that it's hard to figure out where the "news" even came from in the first place. They never link to it because they know a link will give the game away, and the hateful Brits on here do the exact same thing.

by Anonymousreply 47December 20, 2020 8:38 AM

Why are you bitching on a gay message board about a certain racial group disappearing R20? Gay men are just as unlikely to "preserve the white race" as a white women having kids with a black man.

Gonna complain about white gay men being too gay to procreate and preserve their race now? Or are you done trolling...

by Anonymousreply 48December 20, 2020 8:51 AM

Ha, this is nothing. Anybody see the Prep commercial where the voice over says "if you were assigned female at birth"......blah blah blah.

Un-fucking-believable.

by Anonymousreply 51December 20, 2020 6:00 PM

R51 A lot can but from childhood they see black men mistreat black woman and believe that's how it is meant to be, when a white man is respectful to them they think that he is after something and they won't go near the devil that is the white woman.

by Anonymousreply 54December 20, 2020 6:47 PM

The fashion magazines all have primarily Black models now. I hardly see any Asians or Latinas or whites. I guess it’s good for all the little Black girls to see themselves reflected in the culture for a change. We are definitely in a reactionary position which will most likely even out eventually.

by Anonymousreply 55December 20, 2020 6:49 PM

[R54] Me too, and two of them are white women/black men and one Asian man/white woman. We only have one white/white couple of the nieces and nephews.

Black men don't eat pussy. White men LOVE eating pussy, and they're the best at it.

by Anonymousreply 57December 20, 2020 6:57 PM

I grew up in a time when bi-racial couples were taboo. Denied apartments. Disowned by their families. Scorned. So I think it’s amazing to see them front and center now. But, yes, it’s overkill because all advertisers are jumping on the bandwagon. I feel the same way when I see gay couples in commercials. Something I thought I’d never see but it does come off as pandering sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 58December 20, 2020 6:57 PM

R20 - Hispanic is not a race:

His·pan·ic /hiˈspanik/ adjective - relating to Spain or to Spanish-speaking countries, especially those of Latin America.

noun - a Spanish-speaking person living in the US, especially one of Latin American descent.

by Anonymousreply 66December 21, 2020 12:30 AM

In the US, most Hispanics are Mestizo so they qualify as a different race. They certainly aren't white. White Hispanics i.e. those of exclusively European Spanish heritage, are not a common sight in the US.

by Anonymousreply 67December 21, 2020 12:43 AM

[quote]Hispanic is not a race:

Sweetheart in the real world it is.

by Anonymousreply 68December 21, 2020 12:44 AM

And little biracial girls 7-9 years old with light brown skin and brown (not black) curly hair (but not kinky) are all the rage now. Every ad campaign wants one. They’re the latest must-have accessory.

by Anonymousreply 69December 21, 2020 1:35 AM

Mixed race babies are the Chanel of babies darling!

by Anonymousreply 70December 21, 2020 1:50 AM

by Anonymousreply 71December 21, 2020 1:51 AM

It's because of people like OP, we can't have nice things.

by Anonymousreply 72December 21, 2020 2:00 AM

This list of demands will do nothing to help students get ready for their professional lives, in a world that's increasingly competitive and global.

As a parent, that would be my primary concern in selecting a school.

by Anonymousreply 73December 21, 2020 2:03 AM

R71 Yeah they’re all light-skinned with nice brown curls and pretty ringlets. Black lite that white people can relate to. Norhing scary or intimidating like those scary dark-skinned BLM rioters you see on the teevee.

by Anonymousreply 74December 21, 2020 2:33 AM

Very good point - they always use a “non-threatening, cutsie” light skinned black or mixed woman with curly hair (they think the curly hair looks hipster aka safe) for their token instead of a dark skinned black woman.

by Anonymousreply 75December 21, 2020 4:15 AM

I've heard more black people than white make disparaging remarks about darker skin, but I know it's ok because it's black people saying it.

Black people are uncomfortable with dark skin.

by Anonymousreply 76December 21, 2020 4:46 AM

I was watching a YouTube tech channel discussing Japanese mobile phones, they included a Japanese phone company ad that showed a happy couple at home - an ethnically Japanese woman and a black man who I would have guessed was American. There are only 50,000 resident Americans of any ethnicity in Japan (according to Wikipedia) so this is a very, very unusual couple.

[quote] Black people are uncomfortable with dark skin.

False. Colorism is a vestige of slavery and colonialism. Lighter skin usually meant you were related to the master of the plantation. Lighter skin people received some advantages but also faced scorn. Today, the main complaint I hear from other Blacks is passing off obviously biracial people as representative of "Black."

I don't care about the interracial couples in advertising. It makes me no more or less inclined to buy the product. However, I love that it enrages approximately 74 million Deplorables.

by Anonymousreply 82December 21, 2020 5:21 PM

Colorism is most definitely NOT a vestige of slavery and colonialism and black men absolutely put a premium on lighter skin. They call it a "sexual preference" and therefore try to excuse their own prejudices but those of us with intelligence and sanity know better.
