Dorothy Zbornak - The Golden Girls profiles

The sarcastic substitute school teacher made the move to Miami after she divorced her philandering husband of thirty-eight years, Stanley. Despite dealing with her own heartbreak, Dorothy is always a source of wisdom, comfort and calm for the other women. At almost six-feet tall, she really is their pillar of strength.

Dorothy and Stan already lived in Miami before they divorced. And Stan is the one who divorced her.

by Anonymousreply 1December 19, 2020 8:28 PM

Why don’t you just wear a sign that says “too ugly to live”?

by Anonymousreply 2December 19, 2020 9:01 PM

She got knocked up at 17 but the baby (Michael) was born a decade later. The longest pregnancy on record.

by Anonymousreply 3December 19, 2020 9:03 PM

They made her out to be so freakishly talk but she was only 5’9” - for that generation however, I guess that was unusually tall. Now every woman wants to be that height.

They did the same with Three’s Company - there were so many “tall & clumsy” jokes about Cindy you’d think she was a giant, but Jenillee Harrison is only 5’8”.

People in showbiz are short.

by Anonymousreply 4December 19, 2020 9:05 PM

Pray for brains!

by Anonymousreply 5December 19, 2020 9:06 PM

Condoms, Rose, condoms!

by Anonymousreply 6December 19, 2020 9:07 PM

Condoms! Condoms! Condoms!

Calm down, lady, did you just get out of prison?!

by Anonymousreply 7December 19, 2020 9:08 PM

R4 Wonder what people thought of Mary Stuart’s height.

by Anonymousreply 8December 19, 2020 9:09 PM

The show would still be on if Bea hadn't decided to quit.

by Anonymousreply 9December 19, 2020 9:09 PM

R9, starring Betty and three corpses?

by Anonymousreply 10December 19, 2020 9:10 PM

Her homely, MANNISH appearance was the source of endless yet well-deserved ridicule by her aesthetic betters.

by Anonymousreply 11December 19, 2020 9:10 PM

Dorothy Zbornak fan here. She is the epitome of strength and wisdom to me.

by Anonymousreply 12December 19, 2020 9:18 PM

Dorothy Z for me!

by Anonymousreply 13December 19, 2020 11:37 PM

She looks even more gigantic on "Maude". I am amazed that she was only 5'9".

by Anonymousreply 14December 19, 2020 11:45 PM

R3, Dorothy also had a daughter, Kate. She seems to have been older than Michael.

by Anonymousreply 15December 19, 2020 11:54 PM

Dorothy is limited ever since she told me to go to hell.

by Anonymousreply 16December 19, 2020 11:56 PM

She of the turkey like neck, nonexistent bosom, huge spare tire, and square manly hips?

I will do anything for eight dollars an hour.

by Anonymousreply 18December 20, 2020 12:04 AM

Shes not dead. She's just sleeping off her chronic fatigue.

by Anonymousreply 19December 20, 2020 1:29 AM

Thank you for acknowledging my struggle with chronic fatigue syndrome, R19. And for the previous 18 posters, YOU DISMISSED ME.

by Anonymousreply 20December 20, 2020 1:37 AM

Hello R10, it would be Rose and three frozen heads on plates per their agreement.

by Anonymousreply 21December 20, 2020 2:07 AM

I wonder if Bea ever felt like shit when sometimes the story line made her the butt of jokes for being ugly, overbearing and manly?

by Anonymousreply 22December 20, 2020 6:52 PM

R22, She did. Bea threatened to quit several times because of all the "Dorothy bashing" jokes.

I look like the mother of a "Solid Gold" dancer.

by Anonymousreply 24December 21, 2020 1:41 PM

Though a "Solid Gold" dancer would be an improvement over my grifting, drifter son, Michael.

by Anonymousreply 25December 21, 2020 1:41 PM

She was Scary in anything backless !!

by Anonymousreply 26December 21, 2020 3:07 PM

I’m like Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 27January 3, 2021 8:54 PM

She's so angry looking, she makes my clit tingle.

by Anonymousreply 28January 3, 2021 9:00 PM

The show's location was Miami, yet she always wore those filthy white boots. In several episodes her big feet were encased in sandals, but those boots were never out of sight in that supposed heat and humidity.

by Anonymousreply 29January 3, 2021 9:58 PM

I thought Dorothy was quite fashionable

by Anonymousreply 30January 3, 2021 10:34 PM

I loved how they dressed, especially when they got all glammed up in their evening wear.

That peach chiffon dress really did look much better on Dot than on Blanche. It should win the Nobel Prize for miracles.

by Anonymousreply 32January 3, 2021 11:11 PM

I love Dorothy. She is my favorite of the girls.

by Anonymousreply 33January 3, 2021 11:14 PM

She could do a mean whirlybird.

by Anonymousreply 34January 4, 2021 3:06 AM

I wish she were my roommate / friend.

by Anonymousreply 35January 24, 2021 8:45 PM

r3...She was knocked up and 19...just 20 min ago an episode aired where Sophia made that exact comment. Its the episode where Rose convinces Dorothy to attend a positive thinking group.

by Anonymousreply 36January 24, 2021 9:09 PM

she dresses like an English lawyer

by Anonymousreply 37January 24, 2021 9:12 PM

Dorothy was kaftan queen. When they went out for fancy dinners she would usually sport some kind of sparkly kaftan all covered in sequins. They were like strange kaftan pantsuit hybrids.

by Anonymousreply 38January 24, 2021 9:16 PM

I liked her green and purple satin pajama/pantsuit combo. Kind of an 80's Endora look.

R39 that is her most hideous look!

by Anonymousreply 40January 24, 2021 9:57 PM

It worked for the times! She wore it a lot too, so the costume poeple liked it.

And trust me there were many looks quote more hideous! haha

by Anonymousreply 41January 24, 2021 10:00 PM

R41 the only one I can think of that was even worse was that tuxedo she wore a couple times that was in almost the same color green/teal.

by Anonymousreply 42January 24, 2021 11:11 PM

I felt safer with her in the house.

by Anonymousreply 43February 13, 2021 11:06 PM

I’m sure she was taller than 5’9”. For a Hollywood woman back then, you would add 3 inches to her height in the same way that you would subtract 3 inches from a Hollywood man’s height.

by Anonymousreply 44February 13, 2021 11:10 PM

Dorothy with a Z!

by Anonymousreply 45February 13, 2021 11:20 PM

I saw her in her one-woman show, she was definitely taller than 5'9"

and she had large bare feet...

by Anonymousreply 46February 13, 2021 11:30 PM

Had one of the most beautiful wedding gowns ever

by Anonymousreply 47February 13, 2021 11:34 PM

R44 highly doubt it - the concept of what was tall for a woman was radically different then - and it wasn’t the ideal the way it is today. Betty and Rue were also super short (like 5’2”).

A lot of actors that was considered “weirdly tall” at the time weren’t all that at all. Jenilee Harrison is another - so many jokes were made about her height but she was just 5’8” surrounded by short actors.

by Anonymousreply 48February 14, 2021 1:24 AM

The show's locale was Miami, but there was Dorothy in so many episodes wearing those ugly white boots. Few episodes saw her big feet encased in sandals, but those boots in Miami. Her wedding gown was a disaster.

by Anonymousreply 49February 14, 2021 1:36 AM

I’m a Dorothy Z fan!

by Anonymousreply 50August 15, 2021 4:31 PM

We know, r49, you said the same thing 20 posts ago. Did you forget your meds again?

Oh, and the boots were gray.

by Anonymousreply 51August 15, 2021 4:50 PM

Dorothy and Stan's first baby died. That's how she could move in with Jean and finish college

by Anonymousreply 52August 15, 2021 5:15 PM

Really, r52? Makes sense to me.
