Look. It goes like this. It takes one Senator and one House member to object, OK. They'll get that. Then, it goes to the full Senate and the House for a vote. The House will be fine. The Senate, under McConnell, will be fine. Because every Democrat, every independent and enough Republicans will vote to accept the Electoral college vote will do it.
Look. If Trump were behaving right now it might be more of a problem. But it is now accepted that he is mentally ill and he is fucking up everything. Vaccine sitting in a warehouse because they have not been told where to take the vaccine? Really? Cyber attack by Russia? Now the Department of Defense is cancelling transition meetings and refusing access to the Biden team? WTF?
Trump's increasingly irrational public behavior is more than concerning. And it is something they are all worried about. And McConnell is watching Georgia closely. Because there's a very real possibility he may lose both seats. He is definitely losing one of them.

R1, you've got to be kidding. A coup against 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡? In September 2001, the Republicans were already in charge. Think!
[quote]The joint chiefs of staff will not obey the orders of trump to overthrow the US government and they certainly aren’t going to listen to the goons installed at the pentagon who have only been there for a few weeks.
R7, both the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs were appointed by Trump back in 2019. The Chairman, Mark Milley, is the very same assclown whom Trump and Barr placed in charge of clearing Lafayette Square of civilians and protestors when Trump held his infamous photo op with the upside-down bible in front of St John's Church back on June 1 of this year. While it's true that Milley apologized for stomping around like a fascist, the fact that he still occupies his position means he has re-secured the favor of Trump.
It's scary just how much of the Department of Defense has been replaced by Trump appointees. See link below.
[quote]yes but then the house and senate vote and they will both vote to reject the challenge.
Are you sure, R11? 126 House Republicans signed onto the stupid-assed Texas Lawsuit of a week or so ago. The Democrat edge in the House is diminishing, with Biden having plucked yet another Dem from their seat to join his cabinet. If all or most of the Republican lawmakers in both the House and Senate step up to support a coup effort, the mere show of numbers may well prove to be something a tiny Democrat advantage cannot successfully repel - especially if it's being reinforced by other activities, like a show of military force in the streets, or the arrest of Democratic lawmakers and newly elected leaders by an out-of-control Justice Department.
It's possible that Trump may receive military support in a coup from countries like Russia. There has to have been a point to Trump having recently abolished 'Open Skies,' and having had the surveillance planes hammered to pieces. We're currently largely blind to troop movements in other parts of the world, or an approach from the air.
A lot of it is being asserted right out in the open by various White House officials. Millions of Trump voters want it to happen; they think it's justified. It's not particularly a secret. And if they so much as 𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑡 it between now and January, it will still amount to the greatest crisis this country has seen since the Civil War. Lots of bloodshed. People who keep laughing it off, insisting it's impossible, are not going to be able to keep above it if it happens.
Even if, by chance, Republicans don't think they have the advantage, and they allow Biden to take office, the danger posed by the Republicans who entertained the whole thing, and Trump crazies who expected it to happen, will still be an ongoing danger to us.

Or else, we better quickly amend the Constitution from allowing such a mockery to repeat itself. No one is supposed to be above the law. Listen, I get the concern expressed by both R48 and R50 - I’ve expressed my own concern regarding the escalating chaos and confusion fomented and created by Trump and have been chastised and ridiculed for it - but what can we do at this point but wait?
A lot has been “not right” since this pathetic and dangerous man ascended to/was strategically placed in the highest office in the land, and it is obvious that his dark tendencies and capabilities are endless. He thrives on chaos and confusion, and deals in fear, lies, and illusions. When speaking about him I honestly find myself thinking, “I am actually describing a demon.”
What saddens me most is that, as much as we ridicule and berate them, there are people I care about and love who have fallen under this demon’s spell, considering him everything from “the greatest American hero and President” all the way to a damn messianic figure. It’s scary, tragic, and saddening.
Our government is so infested with corrupt figures - on both sides - that we find ourselves resorting to ripping each other to shreds because we can’t in good faith defend those politicians because they, too, have proven themselves to be hypocritical and compromised. That being said, this bastard has taken things to another level and has incited a hatred in me that I know, objectively speaking, is toxic to both myself and others.
I vacillate between being gripped by fear, anger, and anxiety, and riding high on the hope and faith in good conquering and reigning in the end. At this point, I’m choosing to continue to sustain my hope and faith, however difficult it may be.
I’ve also realized that I need to pull back from politics for a bit, at least until January 20th. I can’t continue to expose myself to this level of insanity.
I do get and empathize with the apprehension others are feeling, though. We’ve never been through anything like this.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 19, 2020 9:24 AM |
I have no such vacillating impulses. And, yes, I believe both parties do not represent their constituents. Honestly, they haven't done so in decades! Good does not triumph over evil without people actively making it so. We must make our wishes heard and hold nothing back!
This so-called stimulus negotiation is nothing of the sort. Pukes may be trying for a diversion from Russia's hacking, or whatever else Dump is encouraging them to do, in order to save his own ass! It couldn't be more obvious. Dump is no longer tending to any Presidential duties except to sell the U.S. in whatever capacity he can to seek asylum for himself. Face it, he has nothing to lose. And while we with a conscience wrestle with our morals, he is charging full speed ahead.
Now, as far as his distraction efforts prevail, we must keep in mind that this Russian hacking effort has been afoot ever since Dump got rid of all seasoned Pentagon leaders a few weeks ago. Right? No one knew why they were dismissed at the time, but I feel their release and this Russian hacking are related. It's safer for us to assume the worst when it comes to Dump since he is not working for us anymore (in his mind, anyway).

Why have the chattering classes with a few notable exceptions, continued to minimize Trump's coup attempt?
It is easier to mock and deride the Trump regime's coup attempt as being "lazy," "failed" or "incompetent," or to describe it in some other liberal-schadenfreude language than to speak of an on-going national emergency. Likewise, calling Trump's coup attempt just a "grift" or a "con job" also minimizes the danger to the country and ignores the kleptocratic aspects of authoritarian and fascist regimes.

Look. IMO The cyber attack was Putin's way of protecting his relationship with Trump and with all the corruption in this administration. Think about it. Commerce is Wilbur Ross, the senile billionaire with ties to Russia. Treasury? DHS? Energy? So obvious. Destroying records and evidence corrupting files, etc. and also getting valuable information. Not only is Trump fine with it, he probably gave the green light. Not in the granular technical sense, but he certainly allowed it. This is why they installed him as their puppet.

R56, I thought it was weird Pompeo suddenly would back off too, but think about it.
Michael Flynn is officially not “retired” as a general, but in the reserve. There’s been talk he could be called back to active duty and court martialed. He could spill the beans and he knows everything. All of these people are sociopaths, they’re trying to save themselves, not the country. So, knowing that, Barr quit. We know he didn’t want to be a part of Trump’s end times plans. Barr is trying to avoid prosecution. He knows he won’t get pardoned because he went against Trump. Pompeo too. So they have to make a deal with the FBI.
My guess is several of these people made deals with the FBI as informants, and part of the deal is not to participate with sedition. The first to deal gets the best deal. There will be a fight to throw the others under the bus. Barr knows the legal situation best of all, and he quit. He’s only responsible for what happened while he was there. He knows much worse is coming. He’ll have to testify against Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | December 23, 2020 5:00 PM |
Pompeo is not going to turn on Trump because he wants to run for President and he thinks he will be able to rely on the Trump base. Until the Media shines a huge, sustained spotlight on Pompeo we will never fully appreciate what a disaster he has been. Bill Barr will assist Law enforcement...up to a point. You will never see him testify against Trump he will claim attorney client privilege. Even if he has no grounds to claim it.
