Who will she fuck for her next role?
Gillian Anderson splits from The Crown writer Peter Morgan after four years

This does look ill-timed.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 17, 2020 10:51 PM |
You're terrible, Muriel.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 17, 2020 10:52 PM |
Does this mean she's going to go back to talking like an American?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 17, 2020 10:52 PM |
Fabulous actress but she can't seem to maintain a stable relationship. What's she like?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 17, 2020 10:57 PM |
She’s seems like she’d be....difficult.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 17, 2020 11:00 PM |
Will she go back to being a lez

a[nother] woman.

He abandoned the mother of his five kids for her. Hope it was worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 17, 2020 11:17 PM |
[R8] That's really appalling. I can understand wanting to have a discreet fling here and there but to upend the lives of children for some fleeting passion is very, very bad. So typical of actors. Gillian is old enough to know better.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 17, 2020 11:24 PM |
Peter Morgan should have know better as well. These are middle-aged people. Funny how everyone thinks they're the exception, that THEY won't play out the old story of romantic folly. Gillian wanted to pull a Carol Burnett but it didn't quite work out that way (it didn't work out for Carol in the end, either).
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 17, 2020 11:30 PM |
What does "pull a Carol Burnett" mean in this context?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 17, 2020 11:36 PM |
R11, having one’s ears fucked.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 17, 2020 11:37 PM |
After seeing a couple of her NT Live performances I'm kinda pleased to hear this is how she gets roles. I was wondering, before. I disagree strongly that she is a good actress.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 17, 2020 11:43 PM |
[R11] Swooping in and marrying a man who already has a wife and many children (in the case of Carol and Joe Hamilton, he had 8!). You'd think you'd just make up your mind that has isn't available and control yourself. Not actors.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 17, 2020 11:45 PM |
I wondered how she was (mis)cast as Thatcher. Now I know.
Thank you, Data Lounge.

You all sound like a bunch of bitter church ladies talking about affairs in the 1940s.

she alwys seemed like an odious grouchy priss.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 17, 2020 11:50 PM |
[R16] Sorry for not being as "evolved" as you. You must have a shitty, chaotic life if you think this behavior is normal and okay - as if it represents some sort of social advance to have a whole society that's lost its sense of impulse control. She's no better than an alley cat.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 17, 2020 11:52 PM |
Those are two textbook fiveheads.

Stop projecting, you sound like many here who start threads on how horrible your mother was, this projection won't cut it. I have very loving parents who are still together and I had a perfect childhood, and it is because of that seeing someone divorce someone they dislike to be with someone they want to won't shock me, grandpa.
I'll call you grandpa because you really sound old and conservative and you probably were born in the 1940s.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 17, 2020 11:57 PM |
I've never liked her and her facial expressions--the same in everything. Stony and yet very smug-looking.
A couple of years ago I criticized her on here for her fake British accent and got a reaming, particularly from people claiming to be British. I'm sorry, but it sounds wrong to me. It may be phonetically accurate, but it isn't natural, despite her claims that she comes by it naturally.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 17, 2020 11:57 PM |
Loved her as Blanche DuBois, absolutely terrible when she replaced Cate Blanchett in All About Eve.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 18, 2020 12:06 AM |
[R21] For the product of a "perfect" childhood you certainly come off like a self-righteous asshole. So placing hedonism over personal responsibility is old fashioned. That's fine with me. By every metric children who are the product of stable family backgrounds tend to do better in life across the board than those who come from fractured families. But I get that it's all about you and your personal "happiness" (which remains out of reach regardless of who you fuck and who you fuck over). Many of the social problems we are experiencing today are the result of the collapse of stable family structures - but you don't think it's any big deal.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 18, 2020 12:07 AM |
I didn't like her as Blanche either, R23, but you're certainly right about that catastrophic All About Eve. Everything about it was awful.
Mind you, Cate probably wouldn't have been much better. Comedy is her Achilles heel. She can get away with a certain amount when really well directed, but it's by no means her medium.
Anyway, ABE is one of those pieces of art that is perfect: only an asshat would want to reinterpret it.

[R21] I guess you identify with the self-indulgent home wrecker. If you were on the receiving end - the abandoned wife and children - you’d be singing another tune. Loudly.

I listened to The Crown’s official podcast and Peter seemed slightly obsessed with Emma Corrin. I thought she was good, not great, in the role of Diana. But he praised her more than anyone else on the show...especially Gillian.
Or maybe he said something to her about her phony accent.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 18, 2020 12:31 AM |
Her character died, so did her relationship.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 18, 2020 12:36 AM |
[R30] I watched her playing English in The Fall and thought her accent was lousy. She must have a tin ear if she was raised partly in Britain. She sounds like a better than average American high school student turning it on for the school play. But she was great to watch in The Fall just the same.

Oh yes,
That woman made BRRRRRRRazen overtures
With a gilt-edged guarantee!
She had a golden glint in her eye
And a silver voice with a counterfeit ring!
Just melt her down and you'll reveal
A lump of lead as cold as steel
Here, where a woman's heart should be!

The Ex-Files.

You can't possibly discuss the issue of extramarital affairs with old incels who have never been touched by another man besides their ob-gyn doctors and probably their estranged fathers. They wouldn't comprehend any of it.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 18, 2020 1:05 AM |
I must put her in the slot of HOW DID THIS FUG EVER BECOME FAMOUS??? she was such a bummer in xfiles...while david d had fun energy....
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 18, 2020 3:11 AM |
She should. The writing did her no favors. She seemed constipated. They neither made Margaret Thatcher the charming, witty Iron Lady with the eyes of Caligula and the mouth of Marilyn Monroe nor a deliciously camp uberbitch villain. They just made her mildly annoying. She was the biggest disappointment on a terribly disappointing season.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 18, 2020 3:14 AM |
R39 No, she gave the X-Files credibility while David sometimes struggled to act.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 18, 2020 3:15 AM |
Sorry kids - mom's clitoris went into hyperdrive and she couldn't control herself.

I'd have thought he was the one who should be criticized for not controlling himself.

by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 18, 2020 4:09 PM |
Maybe she just brought to much Margaret Thatcher home with her at the end of the day? Who could live with that?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 18, 2020 4:30 PM |

I was disappointed in All About Eve, but not by her Margo. I thought she was quite good and made the part her own. But the play and the rest of the cast were a letdown.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 18, 2020 4:41 PM |
Yes, R45, she looked incredibly thin. It was accentuated by that bizarre thing she kept doing with her neck which made it look like Mrs T was having constant spasms, it really made her sternocleidomastoids stick out. I thought her performance wasn't great, maybe they were reluctant to go too hard on the showrunner's missus? She could have done with more aggressive coaching on how Mrs Thatcher would have spoken in the early '80s (as opposed to sounding like her many strokes occurred while she was still in office) and on why Mrs Thatcher wouldn't have moved like a hump-backed old lady when first elected in1979 (when she was only 53).
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 18, 2020 4:53 PM |
I agree, R49! Gillian was fine as Margo (maybe a little too subdued), but the rest of the play was a total letdown.
Lilly James was completely forgetable, as was the rest of the supporting cast. I did like the direction though...and the scene where Margo appears to age as she's looking in the mirror.

Peter divorced his wife in 2014 and started dating Gillian in 2016 according to the linked article, so the Nattering Nellies can unclutch their pearls and put away the smelling salts.
