Patti Smith: How wealthy is she?

Is she rolling in the dough? Her son is a realtor in Michigan, which seems very random.

by Anonymousreply 43January 3, 2021 6:59 PM

she's poor

by Anonymousreply 1December 15, 2020 1:35 AM

Don't let her fool you—she's rich as fuck, but the pretentious type who wears designer outfits that probably cost $15k yet look like rags for the homeless.

by Anonymousreply 2December 15, 2020 3:10 AM

She's got some money. She bought Rimbaud's childhood home in France

by Anonymousreply 3December 15, 2020 3:57 AM

How is she so wealthy?

by Anonymousreply 4December 16, 2020 1:08 AM

Isn't she from Southern Jerz?

by Anonymousreply 5January 2, 2021 9:19 PM

Isn't her son married to the White Stripes girl?

by Anonymousreply 6January 2, 2021 9:34 PM

Her autobiography made me hate her. I thought she was kidding with the pretentiousness, but then she got more humorless. And pretentious.

by Anonymousreply 7January 2, 2021 9:40 PM

No r6, they divorced and he is a remarried realtor in Michigan. A realtor! Isn't that random???

by Anonymousreply 8January 2, 2021 9:41 PM

R2 is right. She wore a lot of Ann Demeulemeester back when Ann was "the" designer- and she still does.

by Anonymousreply 9January 2, 2021 9:52 PM

Who is she? Painful hangnail. Limited Google ability. Ouch.

by Anonymousreply 10January 2, 2021 9:57 PM

I do like her lyrics and "poetry". Even on her Instagram, she writes beautiful prose. She just does.

Does it come across as pretentious? Yeah. But I think she is pretty genuine,

But yeah, she is VERY RICH, BITCH.

by Anonymousreply 11January 2, 2021 10:07 PM

Why would she want Rinbaud's miserable home on a main road? It's environs have been destroyed

Is that the childhood home that Rimbaud kept running away from, finally going as far as Abyssinia, never to return?

Here's one of the lovely homes her son has secured for Michigan homeowners. Can our tasteful friends comment?

That nasty hag cannot have any money.

by Anonymousreply 15January 2, 2021 10:51 PM

R15- I suspect that she has SERIOUS money- And she clearly lives below her means. Which I can respect. Her books alone probably have brought her 1-2 million.

I like blue.

by Anonymousreply 17January 2, 2021 11:25 PM

Shit.... that old bitch ain’t got squat! I’m surprised she isn’t on public aid.

by Anonymousreply 18January 2, 2021 11:46 PM

R18- Disagree completely. Stealth money. Hardcore. R2 really sums her up- but its on a bigger level. Songwriting brings in major money. Because The Night is probably 20% of her net worth. And those books.

by Anonymousreply 19January 2, 2021 11:48 PM

Those books are no longer generating any income! That was a long time ago. Skant residuals from her one hit. It really isn’t that popular of a song in 2021. Are u like some sort of stupid die hard fan who doesn’t know what you’ve boiled up inside your own ass over reality??

by Anonymousreply 20January 2, 2021 11:51 PM

R20- I despise her voice and music. But I do find her writing very good. I like Rimbaud too. You could not be further off. I truly think she has serious money. That's it.

by Anonymousreply 21January 2, 2021 11:54 PM

She grew up poor in Mantua NJ.

by Anonymousreply 22January 3, 2021 12:02 AM

I picture ass kissy famous and richer fans keeping her afloat because she is a national treasure. ( 🤮 ) .

by Anonymousreply 23January 3, 2021 12:10 AM

R18 Patti On Assistance

by Anonymousreply 24January 3, 2021 12:31 AM

I thought that was a 10,000 maniacs song, r19.

by Anonymousreply 25January 3, 2021 12:53 AM

I get her mixed up with Patty Smyth.

by Anonymousreply 26January 3, 2021 1:02 AM

She has somewhere between 2 and 3.5 million, which makes her comfortable middle class.

by Anonymousreply 27January 3, 2021 1:13 AM

She’s saved a fortune on hair care for decades

by Anonymousreply 28January 3, 2021 1:20 AM

She's a Goddess

Meanwhile your pussy stinks.

by Anonymousreply 29January 3, 2021 3:26 AM

R20 you’ve got issues

by Anonymousreply 30January 3, 2021 3:30 AM

I believe the $16 million figure the "net worth" sites show for her.

But then they say Joni Mitchell is worth $100 million.

by Anonymousreply 31January 3, 2021 3:41 AM

She's quite wealthy. But she always looks like a homeless person. She wears expensive things (Jimmy Choo boots, Cartier jewelry) but it doesn't matter. She always looks a slovenly hag. I guess she wants to look that way; it's her "style." I imagine she thinks she is the coolest thing on the face of the earth. She's not.

by Anonymousreply 32January 3, 2021 3:47 AM

Why op? Didja meet her and wanna do the scissors with her if she's a sugar momma? Whore!

by Anonymousreply 33January 3, 2021 4:08 AM

" I thought she was kidding with the pretentiousness, but then she got more humorless. And pretentious."

In the dictionary there's a picture of Patti Smith next to the definition of "pretentious." She personifies it. How can anybody stand her? I never could.

by Anonymousreply 34January 3, 2021 4:25 AM

Did her husband die and leave her cash? Perhaps life insurance paid out big because there's no way she earned this lifestyle.

by Anonymousreply 35January 3, 2021 4:44 AM

"Perhaps life insurance paid out big because there's no way she earned this lifestyle."

She made some good money as a rock star. She made a lot of money from her books. And people still pay to see her, God knows why. I don't think she's living off life insurance.

by Anonymousreply 36January 3, 2021 5:03 AM

I enjoy her writing, but am amused by her insistence that she was never motivated by money or fame—she just wanted to create art.

Patricia Morrisroe, Mapplethorpe’s biographer, portrays Robert and Patti as egotistical punks hell bent on becoming rich and famous. They would sit at home together and plot how to make connections with those who could advance their careers, and moved effortlessly among public personalities even when their own stars had yet to rise.

Other bits I found interesting, because they are so contrary to Smith’s public persona—she disliked attractive women and could be cruel to them, viewing them as competitors first and foremost, and was estranged from Mapplethorpe for a few years after moving to Michigan. There was actually a point when their communication had broken down to the point where their lawyers had to arrange a meeting for them to discuss a possible photoshoot for Smith’s album cover.

by Anonymousreply 37January 3, 2021 5:30 AM

I'd be surprised if she had much money before the books, and I doubt her husband had much to leave her.

by Anonymousreply 38January 3, 2021 7:12 AM

She would probably have a valuable art collection - Warhols, Mapplethorpes and Rimbaud related art. Maybe Basquiats?

by Anonymousreply 39January 3, 2021 8:09 AM

Patti has a lot of connected friends, I think. The Ann Demeulemeester outfits were probably gifted to her as they’re close (she also wears the same 5 outfits over and over). She’s very respected in Europe (more so than in the US), I think they really bend over backwards for her when she visits. I also wonder if she inherited money from Maplethorpe, Burroughs, Ginsberg, etc. She has formed long lastIng bonds with pretty important people.

She does live way, way below her means. Her NYC apartment isn’t fancy, and her Rockaway Beach house is a tiny shack.

by Anonymousreply 40January 3, 2021 1:33 PM

She also mentioned in one of her books she had to save money from a single tour to earn that Rockaway Beach House (but again it’s tiny).

by Anonymousreply 41January 3, 2021 1:37 PM

She toured relentlessly, her songwriting, albums and books still make money, and, yes, she has an amazing collection of art.

"Because the Night" was written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith. It appeared on Patti's album Easter. 10K Maniacs didn't cover it until the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 42January 3, 2021 1:54 PM

She's supposedly "dating" Ralph Fiennes. I've seen photos of them together; he dresses very down when he goes out with her, so as not to contrast too sharply with her bag lady look. Yes, some people say they're dating but she refers to him as "my friend Ralph Fiennes?" Why in hell would he be involved with her? Well, he's a strange bird with a Mommy fixation, maybe that's why. Before Smith he'd left his wife to the actress Francesca Annis, who is 18 years older than him. Anyway, the image of Ralph Fiennes and Patti Smith as a couple is hilarious.
