I remember her as Warren Beatty's wife in Splendor in the Grass and as Robert Redford's girlfriend in an Alfred Hitchcock TV episode. Zohra had an odd beauty about her. I know she was doing Goya Bean commercials 30 years ago so I'm guessing her career went down the shitter. I loved the cadence of her voice...Did anyone know her?
I'm sure she was thrilled to work with Faye!

Maybe not Faye but the rest of that cast was Broadway gold at the time!

Letโs Scare Jessica to Death is in my top three favorite horror films.
I didnโt like it much as a youngster but as I got older Iโve come to appreciate it greatly.
Very quiet and subdued horror.

No.

And I agree, OP. Her voice was quite nice.
In Jessica, it was soothing. I recall her performance in Kojak as well.

๐๐๐ญ'๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ก (1971) is her best work, I think.

[quote]Zohra Lampert - Anyone remember?
No.

Let's Scare Jessica To Death is a great creepy film and Zohra was great in it.

Zohra has a bit of a resemblance to Tyne Daly.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 13, 2020 5:03 AM |
Sheโs great opposite Gena Rowlands in Opening Night.

To think, r4, not only Miss Zohra Lampert, but also Miss Salome Jens! We had *names* then...
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 13, 2020 4:35 PM |
She was too off-beat, even for Hollywood in the 1970s.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 13, 2020 4:43 PM |
R13 Yes, Miss Zina, the names were golden including the other "Z" girl -- Zasu Pitts.

She was of that era of off-beat actresses like Louise Lasser.
When I was going to school in NY in the 70s I was waitering at a burger joint. Zohra Lampert was a customer. I always saw her alone. Very normal NYer. Kind of dowdy.

The UK had Rita Tushingham.

Imagine scene between Zohra Lampert, Louise Lasser and Sandy Dennis.

R18 Wow! Besides being quirky actresses, those three had truly distinctive voices.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 13, 2020 5:03 PM |
All three are character actresses, r19, it's to be expected.

Her second husband is former WNYC radio host Jonathan Schwartz, who was disciplined then fired a few years ago for multiple complaints of inappropriate behavior.

Add Barbara Harris to the quirky list.
Like Zohra, a brilliant actress and comedienne (I think they may have both begun at Chicago's 2nd City?), and both with adorable faces that belied a more complex side. They had no patience for Hollywood stardom and, perhaps, the feeling was mutual.
I actually worked briefly with Zohra in the early 1970s. She was quite lovely. Very earthy and sensual vibe but tended to overthink everything, which ultimately got in her way.

Just watched Movie Movie yesterday. Well, actually only one Movie...the second one. I'd forgotten Barbara Harris was in it. Wonderful as always.

Barbara Harris was adorable in Hitchcock's Family Plot with Bruce Dern.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 13, 2020 8:34 PM |
Lampert and Harris were both in Jerome Robbins' production of "Mother Courage" (1963).

R25 Quite a cast. R22 remembered them starting in Second City together so they must have known each other throughout their careers.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 13, 2020 8:47 PM |
If Zohra Lampert married Pia Zadora she'd be Zohra Zadora.

It must be mentioned that that Broadway production of MOTHER COURAGE was what kept Anne Bancroft from accepting her Oscar and pissing Bette Davis off no end.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 13, 2020 9:15 PM |
Joan won an Oscar for her own Mother Courage, "Mildred Pierce".
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 13, 2020 9:18 PM |
Normally I love her but, honestly, what kind of fool was Anne Bancroft to let that happen? Was she even a friend of Joan's?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 13, 2020 9:25 PM |
EVERY fucking thread on DataLounge winds up being about Joan Crawford.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 14, 2020 12:37 AM |
What is that, R32? I want to read more.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 14, 2020 10:21 AM |
I bet Zohra Lampert wanted to play Regina Lampert opposite Cary Grant in 'Charade' in 1963.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 14, 2020 11:03 AM |
In her little scene with Warren Beatty at the end of Splendour in the Grass, she behaves so oddly, almost mentally-challenged. It's like she's in a different film. Or maybe it's Natalie and Warren who are in a different film.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 14, 2020 7:13 PM |
I remember wondering if her character was aware that she was a second-rate substitute for Natalie. She gave it ambiguity.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 14, 2020 10:56 PM |
R36 / R37 Zohra knew Warren from his college days. He was a big man and she waited tables in her parents' pizza place. In those scenes, she played very shy and 'not worthy' of the boys's attention. The scene at the end made sense; she was probably felt intimidated by Natalie and her beautifully dressed friends, knowing that was Warren's old crowd.
