Supernatural - Epilogue

We've seen the famous final scene.

Now what comes after?

Sam and Dean Winchester in heavenly bliss, of course...

Somehow, I think that Bobby is recording Sam and Dean on video, and jerking off to it.

Dean likes his toys...

I've come to the realization that any sort of homo erotic signals that people are picking up on, are coming from JENSEN.

I've seen Jared in hundreds of episodes, interacting with other guys, and I don't pick up on anything remotely gay. Or even sexual, for that matter.

But almost every scene that Jensen is in - particularly with another good looking guy - ends up seeming homoerotic.

Whether it's acting against Jared, or Misha, or Crowley, or pretty much any other male actor. It's JENSEN that makes the scene super gay!

I was watching Hibbing 911, and Dean had a scene with "Deputy Graham." Dean was with Sam pretending to be an FBI agent.

He was giving "Deputy Graham" some attitude, but what should have been an alpha male brodown, ended up looking like the beginning of a gay porn movie!!! I swear, it was hilarious.

Then there was Dean and the Siren who he basically made out with in the car.

The Siren clearly wanted to fuck Dean.

And there was the deputy in the "Southern Comfort" episode that sniffed Dean, and said that "the spectre likes you."

Then there was Dean and Brock Buckner in the "Plushie" episode.

Dean started interrogating him about how much he could bench in the weight room. Rofl!

A writer breaks down the Siren episode into the total GAY FEST that it actually was.

In the fourteenth episode of the fourth season of Supernatural, a kind of sub-par episode turns into a massive Nope-fest. Intrigued? Then it’s time for Mark to watch Supernatural.

So yeah. Up until the big reveal about Nick Munroe (and what he compels the Winchesters to do), I was kind of bored by this episode? As if it isn’t painfully clear, I am SUPER GAY, so the fact that I was watching the straightest episode to ever straight didn’t help things. I admit that sirens as a mythological being are rarely, if ever, used well in fiction, because the dynamic basically boils down to evil women being evil for the sake of it. (Which is why it’s ultimately so incredible that the writers end up avoiding this trope through Nick Munroe, which I’ll get to.) (Also, I just realized that was HOYT from True Blood. Holy shit.)

This is definitely uncomfortable to watch, too, though I don’t know if that was intentional. From the cold open, we’re presented with images that are not at all recognizable as supernatural. Men beat and kill their wives all the time, and until we find out about the siren and the “drug” that compels them, there’s nothing here to suggest that what we’re seeing is anything other than violence born of misogyny. It’s a case of unfortunate implications, which is one reason why it took me so long for this episode to truly grab me. I know I’m a dude, but even I could see the male gaze all over this thing in terms of how it was filmed, where it was set, and how the use of the strippers went meant largely to act as this vague antagonistic force without ever getting any characterization at all.

In hindsight, though, there is a lot here that’s completely re-contextualized by the ending. The biggest thing, obviously, is Dr. Roberts’ flirting with Sam. So, this is actually the first time in a while that Sam doesn’t have sex with a supernatural creature??? Also, Dr. Roberts is ALIVE AT THE END OF THE EPISODE. I DID NOT EXPECT THIS. Maybe the show is deliberately toying with our expectations on this one, but still, it was a shocker. That meant that her pursuit of Sam was genuine and not under dubious consent! HEY, THAT’S WONDERFUL. And totally irrelevant by the end of the episode, since we’ll never see her again.

What was most intriguing about this episode to me was how Nick Munroe used his power to bring out the unspoken tension between Sam and Dean, which comes to a head here in the WORST POSSIBLE WAY. So much of Dean’s characterization involves his reluctance to ever speak honestly about his emotional well-being. Despite that he has made strides towards being more honest with Sam, they both have unresolved issues surrounding their trust with one another. Though, let’s be real, most of that comes from Dean, who continues to mistrust Sam because SAM IS TERRIBLE AT HIDING SECRETS. He’s so clearly doing something else. And look, even if you take away the fact that Dean snooped on Sam’s phone, there is so much more evidence that Sam is sneaking around, you know?

So, when Nick reveals himself as the siren (HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS OH MY GOD NICK FIT THE PROFILE SO PERFECTLY), he pits Dean and Sam against one another in a fight over himself. Now, there’s a sneaky little queer subtext to a man making other men fight one another to the death for him that’s kind of a neat re-telling of the Siren myth. But it’s an unaddressed subtext. Actually, it was also kind of confusing why the Siren acted as he did? I got the sense that he fed on devotion and euphoria, but it wasn’t outright stated, or I just missed it. ANYWAY. I suppose it’s not important because FIGHTING. SO. MUCH. FIGHTING.

by Anonymousreply 7December 11, 2020 8:24 PM

While the physical fight was certainly a trip to watch, I was COMPLETELY MESSED UP by what these two said to each other. THEY CAN’T TAKE IT BACK. And I can already see that they’re both going to repeat the same thing to one another in the future: that they didn’t mean it, that the siren made them say that, but… is that really the truth? Because I’m pretty certain that what both these guys say to each other isn’t far from how they really feel. We know Dean’s suspicious of Sam and Ruby! BUT I DID NOT KNOW THAT SAM FEELS LIKE DEAN ISN’T A GOOD ENOUGH HUNTER TO TRACK DOWN LILITH, OR THAT HE BELIEVES DEAN IS HOLDING HIM BACK. I don’t want that to be true, but???? It probably is????

WHY IS THIS SHOW DOING THIS TO ME SO OFTEN LATELY? It’s a familiar pattern, I admit. A lot of the serialization of this season and the last one is in episodes like this, where there’s a storyline or a case meant to make us reflect on the ever-developing Winchester angst. But goddamn it, it just keeps getting worse. Do the writers think I’m made of stone? I HAVE FEELINGS. STOP IT, OKAY.

I just finished watching "Inherit the Earth" again (second to the last episode), and the ending made me cry. Again.

That review with Jared and Jensen back in their 20's, and all of the people who have been on this show.... whew!

It was so emotional.

by Anonymousreply 10December 18, 2020 4:29 AM

Awful show.

by Anonymousreply 11December 18, 2020 5:00 AM

Who the hell could actually watch this trash? Only on Datalounge. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 12December 18, 2020 5:05 AM

This is a very interesting interview with Jared and Jensen.

The interviewer mentions both of their new shows, and asks them about it, then Jared says "I'll go first."

Yikes!

His ego really seems to be getting out of control.

Jensen, on the other hand, seems very cool and laid back about everything. He's very professional and polite.

Jared even gets in a little dig about getting to work in Austin and go home at the end of every day. Which naturally, Jensen won't get to do.

Not cool.

I don't understand why people are so jealous of Supernatural.

Just because they've been on for 15 years with steady work, earning million dollar paychecks, and have tons of fans, doesn't mean that you have to hate on Jared and Jensen.

It only shows how much is lacking in your own lives.

by Anonymousreply 25December 21, 2020 12:57 AM

[quote]I don't understand why people are so jealous of Supernatural.

JEALOUS? Of Supernatural???? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Did you really say something THAT stupid, R25? It's there in black and white so I guess you did. The fact that you and your ilk obsess over this ridiculous show and its aging, untalented actors is proof positive of what's lacking in YOUR life: TASTE.

by Anonymousreply 26December 21, 2020 1:13 AM

Jared and Jensen are famous and rich.

What about you, R26?

Somehow, I think that you're miserable. Living in your mother's basement.

by Anonymousreply 31December 21, 2020 2:03 AM

Omg.

I was watching Home Alone, and I just realized that the kid who played Macaulay Culkin's older brother "Buzz" in the movie, is Devin Ratray.

Devin Rayray played gay character "Damien" on the Supernatural episode "The Real Ghostbusters."

I had no idea that was the same person as the bully kid from home alone!

So Supernatural has two connections to Home Alone.

Devin Ratray played Macaulay Culkin's older brother in the movie. And Rachel Miner (Meg) married Macaulay Culkin!

What a trip.

This piece of shit Ackles posted a photo of George W Bush Sr on his Insta and fucking GUSHED all over him like he was the best thing ever. Ackles is a fucking Rethug, lying that he's a Democrat so he can con some casting agent into a movie role.

FUCK HIM.

Plus, he let the fucking Duck Dynasty nimwits serve food AND make a profit at his brewery.

FUCK HIM AGAIN.

by Anonymousreply 39December 25, 2020 9:19 AM

He's a shithead. He used to be so damn beautiful but age (and lying about his politics) have caught up with him. He's a hard looking 40 something guy. In most pics I'd put him in his 50s easy. He can con folks all he wants but it's pretty clear he's a rethug. His wife's fam had Trump signs all over their yard this last election cycle.

by Anonymousreply 40December 25, 2020 1:45 PM

I just discovered another celebrity guest appearance on Supernatural.

Kadeem Hardison! He played Dwayne Wayne on "A Different World."

R41 you really want to call Kadeem Hardison a celebrity? That seems a real stretch.

R40 I've seen Jensen up close and even I wouldn't put him in his 50s. Late 40s, easy, but not 50s. However, you're right about the Bush photo. Jensen has a big photo of George H. W. Bush plastered on his Insta with a sappy tribute! I gotta say, I never bought into the whole "Jensen the LGBT Friendly Democrat" schtick he's been selling these last few years. I think it's nothing but a plan to get him parts he couldn't have gotten otherwise. And R40, Danneel's family is Conservative and they might have had public Trump signs out in 2016; however, no way Danneel would have let them do it this year. That's not to say they didn't vote for him . . . I just don't think Jensen and Danneel would let them proclaim it publicly.

Thank god he finally got rid of the Duck Dynasty Food Truck. I guess that was one Covid-19 casualty nobody cared about.

by Anonymousreply 44December 28, 2020 6:31 AM

LOL no one gives 2 shits about this shitty show or either of the actors.

Let it die in peace.

Wow, I just realized that the actor in the "Bad Day at Black Rock" episode is kind of notorious.

The guy who played Kubrick is actor Michael Massee.

He's famous for being the actor who accidentally shot Brandon Lee during filming of "The Crow." I had no idea.

When I found this out, I was quite surprised that in the "Bad Day at Black Rock" episode, he wielded a gun pointed at Sam! The show runners must have had some real balls to ask him to do that!

Given that Jack got Castiel out of The Empty, he and dean meet at Bobby's heavenly place to sort out their feelings which were previously rudely interrupted by the black sludge.

Cas tells Dean he dreams of licking ass, sucking dick and getting jizzed on every day-by him!

Dean sees the benefits in such an arrangement.

Before they can shake on it, a young John Winchester shows up and insists they have a menage et trois arrangement to make things even more heavenly.

Meanwhile Sam teaches a still deaf Eileen how to pronounce Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious without much success.

Too be continued....

by Anonymousreply 52February 10, 2021 6:16 AM

I've come to the realization that every decision Sam made during the course of the show, was the WRONG decision.

From trusting Meg in season one, to questioning John's intentions, to befriending and trusting Ruby, and on and on and on, until the very end where he convinced Dean not to kill Chuck when he had the chance to do it. Sam has been wrong.

He's SO stupid.

Meanwhile, Dean was made out to be the hero in the very end.
