dentist said i have 14 cavities is that even possible?

? do we even have that many teeth? is he lying so he can get more money out of me? i'm in confusion

Do they sell toothbrushes in your trailer park?

by Anonymousreply 1December 10, 2020 4:29 PM

Sometimes the definition of a "cavity" is subjective

Some may be "indentations" that need to be monitored

If the dentist is telling you that all 14 need to be filled - I'd get a second or third opinion

You're not in confusion, you're on another drunken bender, you old meth whore

OP I have dental issues as well, a lot of them are genetic. Be glad cavities is all you have. Other issues are way more expensive to fix.

Dentists seem to be running the biggest rackets lately. I went to one and she told me I needed my upper fixed bridge redone at $10,000. She claimed all the teeth holding it in were decayed.

I went for another opin, nope, the bridge was fine and my mouth was in good shape. He did want to clean two back molars for $1500...with a laser.

More bullshit they do it poke your gums and assign it a number...another scam...whatever happened to simple dentistry????

[quote] do we even have that many teeth?

YOU might not, Jethro.

OP? Find an older, old-school dentist who's had a practice for awhile. S/he has no incentive to overcharge you. DO NOT go to a "chain" or a young dentist. They have all the incentive in the world to charge you as much as they can get out of you.

Not only is it terrible to do work on teeth that don't need it, it's also terrible to do complex procedures when an easy one -- or none -- would do the trick. Case in point, I have very small cavities on all my wisdom teeth. A greedy dentist would either 1) fill the cavities, or 2) take out my wisdom teeth. But my old-school dentist asked me, "Do they bother you?" They do not -- there's no pain at all. He left them alone, and all my teeth and I are very happy together.

BTW, I know all this because my sister was a dental assistant for 30 years for an incredibly skilled old-school dentist who retired 10 years ago. I sure wish I could still see him. He was the best dentist I have ever had.

We had a dentist who after the first exam gave estimates in the $8000 range. After two years of work, the new estimate was $8000. I went to another less fancy dentist and was given a clean bill of health after the cleaning. No cavities, no problems. The worst part was that the original dentist was supposed to be a friend.

Dunno OP.

by Anonymousreply 9December 10, 2020 5:59 PM

Was this your first visit to this dentist, OP? He may not be trustworthy and is just trying to get his next few car payments out of you. I agree with R2, try one or two other dentists until you find one you're comfortable with.

OP, floss.

by Anonymousreply 11December 10, 2020 6:40 PM

You should have all your teeth removed. You'll be really popular at the glory holes!

by Anonymousreply 12December 10, 2020 6:56 PM

I didn't know you could get cavities with dentures. You sound filthy.

by Anonymousreply 13December 10, 2020 7:04 PM

The unscrupulous dentist will damage perfectly healthy teeth as an excuse to fleece you.

Finding an honest dentist is as hard as finding an honest mechanic. We're at their mercy, and they know it! I fuckin' hate them both!

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2020 8:54 PM

Do you have a history of bulimia?

by Anonymousreply 17December 10, 2020 8:58 PM

Only let him fill all your cavities if he's hot.

by Anonymousreply 18December 10, 2020 9:08 PM

OP starts these really stupid threads every day. Why do people always take the bait. Guess we are bored.
