Ambassador Peter Buttigieg?

Axios is reporting that Biden may make him Ambassador to China.

by Anonymousreply 111June 9, 2021 9:55 PM

Malta would reflect his heritage.

by Anonymousreply 1December 9, 2020 2:12 AM

Please OP.

Just stop it.

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2020 2:12 AM

Oh yes Peter, I want you so bad....

by Anonymousreply 3December 9, 2020 2:14 AM

Peter is his preferred name.

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2020 2:16 AM

I doubt it.

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2020 2:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 6December 9, 2020 2:20 AM

Bang Ding Ow!

by Anonymousreply 7December 9, 2020 2:22 AM

We're here, we're queer, deal with it!

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2020 2:28 AM

“Mayor Pete” has a more politically-friendly appeal, but it’s true that in his personal life he has always preferred to be called Peter.

by Anonymousreply 9December 9, 2020 2:29 AM

I called this the whole time. I thought he would want canada or england though. Does he speak Chinese?

by Anonymousreply 10December 9, 2020 2:30 AM

Ok Mayor P fanboys..deep breath..he is MARRIED

by Anonymousreply 11December 9, 2020 2:31 AM

If he doesn’t already count Chinese among his many languages he surely will become fluent in it.

by Anonymousreply 12December 9, 2020 2:34 AM

There is nothing Mayor Pete cannot do!

by Anonymousreply 13December 9, 2020 2:35 AM

Ambassadress to Russia

by Anonymousreply 14December 9, 2020 2:36 AM

r7 你是个白痴

by Anonymousreply 15December 9, 2020 2:36 AM

Good, please send him halfway across the world and make him more irrelevant than ever. Chasten will be the Belle of Peking!

by Anonymousreply 16December 9, 2020 2:37 AM

神圣的他妈的

by Anonymousreply 17December 9, 2020 2:38 AM

what languages does he speak?

by Anonymousreply 18December 9, 2020 2:39 AM

what languages does he speak?

by Anonymousreply 19December 9, 2020 2:39 AM

Would Peter's marriage even be recognized in China?

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2020 2:39 AM

Oh yeah, a mayor from Indiana should be the ambassador to the most pernicious country on Earth. Great idea.

by Anonymousreply 21December 9, 2020 2:40 AM

Chasten can adopt so many more ugly dogs off the streets of Beijing.

by Anonymousreply 22December 9, 2020 2:40 AM

It’s a graveyard for anyone with presidential ambitions.

by Anonymousreply 23December 9, 2020 2:47 AM

Pete is more than capable of any job - including this one! He's the best!

by Anonymousreply 24December 9, 2020 2:47 AM

Amy K. already out in opposition to this nomination. Says he doesn't have the experience to fill such a position.

by Anonymousreply 25December 9, 2020 2:50 AM

R25 She's a jealous, vindictive CUNT!!!

by Anonymousreply 26December 9, 2020 2:59 AM

Go Pete!

by Anonymousreply 27December 9, 2020 3:10 AM

The Hon. Peter Buttigieg, Mandarincess

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2020 3:21 AM

this would be a good post and give him foreign policy credentials for later elections

by Anonymousreply 29December 9, 2020 3:22 AM

Stop trying to make Petey the Unsuitable happen!

by Anonymousreply 30December 9, 2020 3:22 AM

Is Biden trying to kill Pete, by sending him to China??

by Anonymousreply 31December 9, 2020 3:37 AM

R30 You're talking about yourself!!!

by Anonymousreply 32December 9, 2020 4:23 AM

Lol this ain’t happening. Dream on.

by Anonymousreply 33December 9, 2020 4:26 AM

Can't Pete just quick move to Malibu, so Gavin can appoint him to fill Kamala's seat in the U.S. Senate?

by Anonymousreply 34December 9, 2020 7:31 AM

All those Chinese boys for Pete

by Anonymousreply 35December 9, 2020 7:32 AM

Noooooooooooo! He'll catch the China virus!!

by Anonymousreply 36December 9, 2020 7:33 AM
Is Biden trying to kill Pete, by sending him to China??

Gonna paw him, claw him, saw him in half,

When he cries out for mercy, we'll just laugh

Beat him, heat him, eat him for dessert, YEAH!

Roast him gently so the flames won't hurt!

by Anonymousreply 37December 9, 2020 7:34 AM

Turn him into a rice queen

by Anonymousreply 38December 9, 2020 7:39 AM

Bad idea. Bad for Pete. It's a passive aggressive offer made in the confidence that no one can succeed in this job. They want him to fail and knock some luster off. He's shining too bright.

by Anonymousreply 39December 9, 2020 7:57 AM

I disagree. It’s a great opportunity to burnish his foreign policy credentials.

by Anonymousreply 40December 9, 2020 8:28 AM

He doesn't need foreign policy to win. Pete's appeal and base is Middle America.

by Anonymousreply 41December 9, 2020 8:31 AM

r41 How will he burn his foreign policy credentials when he has none at the moment ?

by Anonymousreply 42December 9, 2020 8:33 AM

Good. Keep him away. Proof that no one like Pete. The centrists think he is beneath them and refuse to engage with him.

by Anonymousreply 43December 9, 2020 8:38 AM

Do even his most ardent supporters think he would’ve defeated Trump?

by Anonymousreply 44December 9, 2020 8:40 AM

R42 you're just repeating other people who talk about foreign policy creds. No prez but Bush pere had any.

No harm having some of course. Voters are not interested in other countries. They vote on jobs. It's the economy, stupid as Bill said which Hillary famously ignored to her peril. It will hold even more true in 2024.

by Anonymousreply 45December 9, 2020 8:45 AM

I wouldn't want to go the China, they are nuts there! The air quality is absolute shit and you have to be careful to not catch any shit disease.

Pet should try to run for congress.

by Anonymousreply 46December 9, 2020 9:29 AM

I would have preferred him as secretary of state...... hope he grows his beard again :)

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 47December 9, 2020 9:35 AM

*Pete

It's a shit job and he doesn't have any experience in foreign policy. I call fake news on this.

by Anonymousreply 48December 9, 2020 9:39 AM
Pete should try to run for congress.

I agree, but first, I think he'll need to find a district to move to and establish himself where he can be elected. .. Indiana's 2nd, in which South Bend is located, is pretty red overall, and just re-elected their incumbent rethug by nearly 62% of the vote.

by Anonymousreply 49December 9, 2020 9:58 AM

Basically I thnk pete is a guy who can do pretty much anything he sets his mind to. I wouldn't cancel out Congress or governor even in a red state.

by Anonymousreply 50December 9, 2020 10:14 AM

hahahahahahahah

Pete won't know what's hit him, the Chinese will run rings around that little creep.

by Anonymousreply 51December 9, 2020 10:24 AM

Got to have high high hopes

by Anonymousreply 52December 9, 2020 10:25 AM

R20 When it comes to the same sex spouses of Diplomats in China, the Chinese government gives them a diplomatic family visa, although not a spouse visa.

There are a few gay Ambassadors in China, but none as high profile as this. Normally, US Ambassadors to China has some experience with China. Huntsman and Locke both spoke Chinese, Terry Brandstad (the latest one) knew Xi Jinping in the past. However, knowing China isn’t a requirement for the job. There is an entire Embassy that handles all that shit. The Ambassador is more than a figurehead of course, but he doesn’t really need to know much as he has people both stateside and in the Embassy who do the policy stuff.

China is probably the most high profile Ambassadorship there is. The UK or Canada may be fun, but politically totally irrelevant and unimportant.

by Anonymousreply 53December 9, 2020 10:59 AM
I call fake news on this.

Thank you Former President Trump.

by Anonymousreply 54December 9, 2020 11:03 AM

China loves the gays

by Anonymousreply 55December 9, 2020 11:07 AM

What does [italic]he[/italic] know about 'Gyna'?

by Anonymousreply 56December 9, 2020 11:12 AM

If he wants it I hope he gets it. But I can't fathom anyone wanting to move to China for possibly years.

by Anonymousreply 57December 9, 2020 11:22 AM

I would love to be ambassador to The Maldives!

by Anonymousreply 58December 9, 2020 11:46 AM

Pete speaks French, Spanish, Arabic, some Italian, some Norwegian. But he doesn’t speak Chinese. So this appointment doesn’t make any sense.

Pete should be the DNC chairman. He’s the only one that knows and understands perception in messaging and he’s fantastic beating back right wing conspiracy garbage and making the Democrats case.

Ambassador to China is a wasted appointment.

by Anonymousreply 59December 9, 2020 11:47 AM

Besides not speaking Chinese, there's the matter of the lodgings.

The U.S, ambassador's residence in Beijing...

Mr. Buttigieg speaks French.

by Anonymousreply 61December 9, 2020 1:57 PM

Although the example of Biden's election at 78 gives someone like Buttigieg a long window in which to become president - although Harold Stassen is a decidedly alternative example - a post like China gives him a possibly more realistic career path, as Secretary of State.

by Anonymousreply 62December 9, 2020 5:36 PM

The only thing he might go for is governor.

An ambassadorship does not raise his national profile or recognition. He disappears. Do you know who the current ambassador is? See?

You need a political perch not a resume for a job interview. Obama's resume was paper thin. Trump had none.

by Anonymousreply 63December 9, 2020 6:03 PM

R63, you're assuming that this iteration of the US is ready to elect an openly gay president. I'm not so sanguine.

by Anonymousreply 64December 9, 2020 6:06 PM
The only thing he might go for is governor

Pete is not going to win a statewide race in Indiana. That's his big political problem and why he wants a Biden appointment.

by Anonymousreply 65December 9, 2020 6:08 PM

R64 yes I absolutely am.

R65 who knows what he wants. It's all guessing and parlor games. There are more governors that go to the White House than ambassadors or cabinet members. You can buy an ambassadorship btw.

by Anonymousreply 66December 9, 2020 6:13 PM

I like the idea of Pete as DNC chair. God knows they haven't had a good one in a long time.

He could impose "message discipline" on the committee the way he imposes it on Chasten at home. Firmly.

by Anonymousreply 67December 9, 2020 6:52 PM

Party chair, delegate/ambassador to China, as noted above, this is the resume of Poppy Bush.

by Anonymousreply 68December 9, 2020 9:57 PM
this is the resume of Poppy Bush.

Minus the head of the CIA. Which, let's face it, is the only item on Bush the elder's resume that really mattered.

by Anonymousreply 69December 9, 2020 10:00 PM

The Business Insider spin is quite bitchy: he's pissed he didn't get UN ambassador and tuned down Veterans Affairs / Director of the Office of Management and Budget as beneath him.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 70December 9, 2020 10:27 PM

OMB is a big deal. I don't know why he'd think that beneath him.

by Anonymousreply 71December 9, 2020 10:36 PM

The big problem for Pete (apart from the obvious) is that old man Biden like retreads too much to give him anything really big.

by Anonymousreply 72December 9, 2020 11:02 PM

He might be best to run his next Presidential race outside the tent rather than in it. Worked for Dumpf

by Anonymousreply 73December 9, 2020 11:19 PM
Pete should be the DNC chairman.

Convince the DNC of that. They elect the chairman. And he already put himself in the running once before and dropped out before the vote. Lack of support? It seems like a very "political" vote, like something out of high school.

by Anonymousreply 75December 9, 2020 11:31 PM

Before Pete goes for any higher office he needs a new husband.

by Anonymousreply 76December 10, 2020 12:07 AM
Before Pete goes for any higher office he needs a new husband.

Maybe Pete can have a relationship with a secret Chinese spy like Swalwell did, and also fail to disclose the fact when running for president.

by Anonymousreply 77December 10, 2020 3:26 AM

I can't wait for the Swalwell sex tape

by Anonymousreply 78December 10, 2020 3:34 AM
He might be best to run his next Presidential race outside the tent rather than in it.

This.

The Americans to win over distrust Washington, and the metropolitan liberals, for good reason.

by Anonymousreply 79December 10, 2020 3:39 AM
Before Pete goes for any higher office he needs a new husband.

Chasten is a huge asset. He was the only spouse who got his own following. Middle America relates to him. He is one of them.

by Anonymousreply 80December 10, 2020 3:41 AM

A hundled mirrion milacres keep happening ev'ly day!

by Anonymousreply 81December 10, 2020 3:42 AM

did he present hole to biden for this job?

by Anonymousreply 82December 10, 2020 3:51 AM

Loooove the notion of pete sitting on joe's face and joe just slobbering away like his life depended on it. pete's lover destroying joe's tittys.

by Anonymousreply 83December 10, 2020 3:52 AM

Ambassador to China?

Do I smell fortune cookies?

by Anonymousreply 84December 10, 2020 3:54 AM

i bet pete's lover has a hot big bubble white fine ass to work over hard...

by Anonymousreply 85December 10, 2020 3:56 AM

I notice Chasten has a big bulge too bottom though he is.

by Anonymousreply 86December 10, 2020 3:57 AM

Biden owes Pete big time for Pete withdrawing when he could have kept the fight going up to the convention.

by Anonymousreply 87December 10, 2020 4:01 AM

It really does seem like Biden allowed others to choose his cabinet for him, and those people are clearing the path for Harris. Still, China will be our most important ambassadorship going forward. This is a serious test for Mayor Pete.

by Anonymousreply 88December 10, 2020 4:06 AM

AMBASSADOR BUTTPLUG TO THE KITCHEN SINK

by Anonymousreply 89December 10, 2020 4:18 AM

I rather doubt China will recognize Chasten as Pete's spouse.

by Anonymousreply 90December 10, 2020 4:35 AM

Aaron Schock and Pete would make a hot couple. Imagine the instagram posts.

Tome to ditch Chasten.

by Anonymousreply 91December 10, 2020 4:57 AM
you're assuming that this iteration of the US is ready to elect an openly gay president. I'm not so sanguine.

Sadly I agree. And the huge vote at AW hates him - he's just not woke enough or something. Whatcha gonna do?

Maybe he should move to a gay friendly state.

by Anonymousreply 92December 10, 2020 5:04 AM

Great. Finally someone who will be able to coax Bai Ling off of the roof.

by Anonymousreply 93December 10, 2020 5:09 AM

No announcement, yet? Maye it's not set in stone.

by Anonymousreply 94December 10, 2020 2:07 PM

A DC assignment would be better for starting a family, lots of kids in the foster system there. China is more likely to give a gay couple a panda than a baby.

by Anonymousreply 95December 10, 2020 2:15 PM

This seems like it was floated by either Pete himself or his enemies. There have been few if any leaks from Biden's team about personnel picks.. or anything else really. It would be very unusual for such a high profile and important position to go to someone without any experience in the region.

by Anonymousreply 99December 11, 2020 7:54 PM

OP These postings are kind of amusing. They probably started at the VP level, then were whittled to down from Sec of State to UN Ambassador, and now most recently Ambassador to China.

What's next, attendant in the WH lavatory?

by Anonymousreply 100December 11, 2020 7:57 PM

R99 Thank the daily double gremlin at DL, not me.

by Anonymousreply 101December 11, 2020 8:12 PM

R100 I've always said Pete should not join Biden and should stay away from DC.

by Anonymousreply 102December 11, 2020 8:14 PM

Methinks once he didn't get his desired job as UN Ambassador, he's said no thanks to the rest.

He's likely moving on to Plan B-whatever that is- with regard to his political future and run for President down the track.

He probably has to do that outside the tent anyway with Harris and her cronies likely thwarting him inside the Harris/Biden show.

by Anonymousreply 103December 11, 2020 8:15 PM
What's next, attendant in the WH lavatory?

Wasn't Pete an Uber driver in Afghanistan? .. I was thinking maybe a nice position in the Secret Service where he could become Dr. Biden's driver.

by Anonymousreply 104December 11, 2020 8:23 PM

After a few years on the boards of Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, etc. he will have millions in the bank.

by Anonymousreply 105December 11, 2020 9:10 PM

R105 That should allow him to buy a congressional seat then!

by Anonymousreply 106December 11, 2020 10:19 PM

Yes- plus the special needs adopted baby

by Anonymousreply 107December 11, 2020 11:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 108December 11, 2020 11:48 PM
