Reviews were just unembargoed today.
They're afraid to give a bad review to anything Black-themed even though he's only human for less than half the movies. They took the "Black Guy Dies First" horror trope and made it a family movie!

Never heard of this?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 2, 2020 4:09 PM |
Looking forward to it. I'm glad Pixar seem to be moving on from pointless sequels.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 2, 2020 11:03 PM |
Pixar movies get great reviews because they're Pixar. No reviewer dares criticize a Pixar movie.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 2, 2020 11:05 PM |
I hated Inside Out so this is a hard pass for me.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 2, 2020 11:06 PM |
You're the first person I've ever heard of who hated Inside Out, R5.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 3, 2020 1:06 PM |
R4 you must have missed the reviews for Cars 2 and 3.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 3, 2020 2:44 PM |
Looks dreadful and boring.

[quote] You're the first person I've ever heard of who hated Inside Out, [R5].
I know I'm in the minority, but I found it so drippy and saccharine and manipulative without earning it. Pixar films are very hit or miss for me. I tend to like the ones people like less and not like the ones that everybody raves about.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 3, 2020 4:36 PM |
I thought Inside Out was meh.

Disney's ethics have been questioned multiple times from multiple angles, R13.

r11, are you making a joke? You're one to talk.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 3, 2020 6:00 PM |
R11 is accusing others of what he is guilty of himself. My apologies if my assumption that you are male proves incorrect.

I hated Inside Out too. I also hated The Secret Life of Pets (not pixar but still complaining)
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 3, 2020 6:02 PM |
I thought [italic]The Incredibles 2[/italic] was kind of forgettable. And I'm not just dumping on Pixar because of John Lasseter's behavior. I was disappointed in [italic]Wreck It Ralph 2[/italic], too, or whatever they called it.

I hope they have a better trailer. Looks dull.

Here's something fun. Soul is in the middle . Nice to see Jungle Cruise. I like what's coming up.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 3, 2020 7:14 PM |
I HATED The Incredibles. I was shocked because I really thought I would love it, but I just sat in the theater moaning and groaning. (I saw it at the El Capitan in the balcony with no one around me so I felt okay to sigh and carry on.)
I think the ones I liked were Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, and The Good Dinosaur.
I hated Toy Story 2 and 4, The Incredibles and Inside Out and I was unimpressed by Finding Nemo and Dory, Up, Brave and Monsters University.
I didn't bother with Cars, Cars 2, The Incredibles 2 or Coco, and I have zero interest in Onward, though I might check it out on Disney + if I find a reason.
Whoever mentioned Wreck-It Ralph, that was just Disney, not Pixar. And I hated it, too.

WOW! That was a great film.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 3, 2020 7:37 PM |
It's been 16 years since I saw it, so I couldn't possibly tell you why I didn't like it. I just do not remember other than really thinking it was shit.
Maybe one of these days I'll try it again on Disney +.

R20 keeps digging by continuing to accuse others of what he is guilty of multiple counts of. You are the one pressing WW over and over again on your own posts. Send me a postcard when you get to China.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 25, 2020 9:03 PM |
Incredibles 2 was horrible. I fell asleep in the theater and I never do that. It was like watching a dumb Saturday morning, nothing like the smart Pixar movies of yesteryear. I couldn’t believe all the good reviews it got. Brave was awful too. I thought it was going to be some grand adventure of this girl but it turned into the story of the three bears.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 25, 2020 9:09 PM |
Inside Out was excellent. Probably my favorite Pixar. I cried my ass off.
The goodbye to the 🤡 !
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 25, 2020 9:13 PM |
Feckin hate Pixar. Their only movies that deserved all the praise they received were Toy Story and Monsters Inc.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 25, 2020 9:28 PM |
Inside out was a mess. Good idea badly executed.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 25, 2020 9:30 PM |
I hated The Incredibles, other than Frozone, who I found more interesting than the superhero family.
Up was also horribly overrated, except for the brilliant prologue.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 25, 2020 9:34 PM |
I saw Soul tonight. My partner loved it, I thought it was just ok. I really hated the "non human" part of it on a visual level. I hate those kinds of candy colored soulless landscapes (ironic, as it it was filled with souls). Richard Ayoade was dreadfully underused, he could have elevated the soulless soul-land for me if he had been used more.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 25, 2020 10:29 PM |
I thought Soul was boring. The story was way too clunky. The little blue souls and squiggly whatever the fuck they were thingies were not enjoyable at all. It seemed way to formulaic as typical for a Pixar flick, yet without the joy and heart. I can't see kids enjoying or even understanding most of the movie
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 25, 2020 10:42 PM |
I am the only human on the planet that has never liked a Pixar movie. I admit it. Not one I would ever watch again. Some I've downright hated like "The Incredibles" were the kids actually killed people. I admit it.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 25, 2020 10:43 PM |
I was hoping for a good cry but this was absolutely weightless. It felt totally scattered and didn’t really have anything to moor it thematically. When they were doing the final, big “payoff” montage at the end that Pete Docter is fond of doing, I was totally perplexed by what I was supposed to feel. Big miss :/
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 25, 2020 10:59 PM |
Pixar films haven't been anything amazing since Up. They have started to dip in terms of critical reception and so they pull out the sure fire way to get the best reviews, make a movie about a black person.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 25, 2020 11:04 PM |
I just finished...wow, they were trying to do A LOT with this movie. 10 lbs of claptrap in a 5 lb sack. I thought it was beautifully animated, like it was a pretty close representation of the physical city. The storyline/script was not great though. Why weren't there any jokes? Why the tacked-on syrupy sentimental ending? Why hire Tina Fey as on-screen talent ever? Why so many British people in the Black Pixar movie?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 26, 2020 1:19 AM |
I loved it and thought it was magnificent, and the most beautiful New York City film since.. I don’t know, Hannah and Her Sisters? I could smell the city, it was so realistic.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 27, 2020 12:13 AM |
Not perfect, but I really enjoyed it. I like the exploring of big questions and the deepness of it all, but it would have been better if there was just a little less of it and just a little more of Joe (as Joe) in his life on earth.
The animation was wonderful, no surprise. The characters, the city, and all the Great Before stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 27, 2020 3:52 AM |
Loved it. It was warm, funny, thoughtful, and transcendent.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 27, 2020 9:05 AM |
As always, everything is subjective but if you hate The Incredibles, you're not going to be on my Christmas card list.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 27, 2020 9:12 AM |
They managed to throw in a solid Karen dig so I give it five stars.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 27, 2020 9:32 AM |

I'm looking forward to Raya.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 28, 2020 3:01 PM |
Like OP said, I am sure it IS good, but white liberals in an attempt not to seem racist will obsess over it and act like it is the best film ever. Same thing happened with Black Panther, Get Out, Dream Girls, and that melodramatic snuff film Precious.

It dragged on in places (e.g., the musical performances), but it couldn't just breeze through those parts w/o seeming disrespectful. People would freak the fuck out.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 28, 2020 3:22 PM |
It's so odd that DL is utterly obsessed that this story centers on a black guy.
Who cares? Let it go.
The themes are universal. It was a nice, thought-provoking movie

Actually, it's only people like you obsessing about it, specifically because it contains black characters

Why hasn't Phylicia Rashad been cancelled? She stood by Cosby till the end.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 28, 2020 3:26 PM |
I loved the movie, but I can't imagine very many kids would want to sit through it.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 28, 2020 3:32 PM |
R60 I am not obsessed with the film. It was good. But, at times it dragged on and I didn’t enjoy the long musical numbers.
My problem is not the film but that anything less than 100 worship will seem be met with calls of racism (as you just did).
Anyway, children will decide if the film in the end. Frozen was the most popular animated film in a very long time because for whatever reason it resonated with children. If this film can do that, then great. If it cannot, then no amount of liberal white worhip can do that. It will have a great run, but I do not see it having the staying power of Frozen.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 28, 2020 4:04 PM |
There is no comparison to Frozen you racist cunt. This is an adult film that kids can enjoy. So tired of you miserable cunts. Take it to Parler. Fucking loser. Blocked.

The pangolin in Raya looks cute.

R56 would have called Malcolm X a racist for saying pretty much the same thing about white liberals.

That didn't work when I tried it. At least I didn't turn Uncle Remus into a fucking cloud!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 28, 2020 4:40 PM |
A very conservative movie about accepting mediocrity over creativity and freedom. All the reviews i've read emphasize how "accurate" it is on its portrayal of Black lives (even the mini doc emphasizes that), leaving the very poor development of the central theme alone, which says a lot. Unlike Inside Out, which deals with the subject matter of accepting the need of grief and sadness in a mature way, this film poses very deep questions to a dense and mediocre result. Bad script to a very gorgeous animation.
.... but it's diverse, so like Wrinkle In Time, it will have critics walking on eggshells, trying to cover up for the superficial script and message, but boy was that barbershop scene accurate or what?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 2, 2021 2:11 AM |
We need to do better as a society. Adults should not be watching Disney films.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 2, 2021 2:23 AM |
What a stupid and childish comment, animation is a form of art and entertainment, why couldn't adults watch them? You sound dense and pretentious, just like Soul.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 2, 2021 2:29 AM |
I wonder how much the Good Place influenced the final result of this film, even the use of Jerrys as the Janets, or the accountant are blatant "tributes". The Good Place at least was a fun ride.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 2, 2021 2:37 AM |
R69: adults are the ones who actually make Disney films. No six-year-old child could’ve made something as technically complex as [italic]Fantasia[/italic].
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 2, 2021 2:58 AM |
Lovely movie. At first I was afraid it might be another "Inside Out", but I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it did also contain elements of "Coco" and the short film "Out" - so Pixar is plagiarizing itself, but that's not really anything new.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 4, 2021 11:06 PM |
I watched it this past weekend and thought it was great. I was afraid it was going to be made specifically for a Black audience, but it’s a film for everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 4, 2021 11:09 PM |
Underwhelming in every posible way.

Why do adults in this country watch children’s films?
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 4, 2021 11:14 PM |
[quote] No six-year-old child could’ve made something as technically complex as Fantasia.
If you put a six year-old in an animation studio with a orchestra for an infinite amount of time, eventually it would create Fantasia, or so they say.

by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 4, 2021 11:18 PM |
I didn't like it. The only good thing about it was the music, and there was very little of that.
Most of it was this supremely annoying 22 character, and her constant arguments with the protagonist, which got old in five minutes but which lasted two solid hours. I wasn't impressed with the animation either, and I dozed off because I was streaming it at home in my own bed and I was really tired, it was NOT enough to keep me awake.
Really, Pixar needs to rethink their direction. They're forgetting that many of their early films were funny as well as sentimental, they've forgotten about the humor and are doubling down on the sentiment. They think they're being profound, but it all comes to sentiment.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 4, 2021 11:36 PM |
Famous, established and powerful Film Studios like Disney and Pixar almost never get bad reviews anymore, that's being going on for a long time now. The industry (all sides of the industry) has come to expect their most valuable investments to be praised.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 5, 2021 3:17 AM |
I liked the Reznor music. The "music is transcendent" stuff needlessly slowed it way down.
