See Barbra Streisand's Wildly-Patterned 1974 House
These vintage House Beautiful photos give a peek into the icon's past — and her "junk room."
I think we're all more familiar with her later AD spreads. I hadn't seen this until recently. Why do you think she feels such a connection with the early twentieth century?

“I guess I'm sort of a diachotomy — I'm attracted to both ends of the pole. “
I’m sure your are, my dear.

Thats even more hideous than the usual 1974 interior.

I think it’s funny that she’s so stereotypically Jewish but is convinced she’s a great beauty for the ages.
That face is something the Rabbi should’ve nipped-off and tossed away.

"high notes in design treasures"??
If those are the highs, I'd hate to see the lows.

" Why do you think she feels such a connection with the early twentieth century? "
Because, that's where she's from

I mean I wonder if it's because that when her big early roles were set, when her parents came to America, was undergoing a resurgence in the late '60s, etc...
She seems more into that than say mid century modern.

Omg...well they say outside reflects inside so this tells me Babs has a very busy and clashy mind where with several major elements are clashing with and crashing into each other.

I saw Streisand in person at an event 1977. She was gorgeous. Luminous skin and very petite. Much better looking in person, quite beautiful.
I had occasion to visit some celebrity homes in the 70s and, at the time, that busy eclectic style was popular and really charming to see. I still use some of those elements in my own home today.
For visual people, a wealth of interesting details really capture one's eye and imagination. My walls are lined with paintings and cabinets with collections. It's fascinating to see how people react. Kindred spirits are enchanted, non-visual types notice very little of it.

It's funny how typefaces date the magazine layout. Novels had a page at the back explaining the typeface selected. I read them, but didn't understand why they bothered. Now I'm starting to get it. I recognized some typefaces, even though I don't know the name. But seeing those two typefaces, the one for "I simply love, etc." and "Barbra Streisand's personal, etc." took me right back to the 70s.

I mean, whatever else you can say about her the rest of the time, this spread is only a couple of years after What’s Up, Doc, and she was legitimately gorgeous in that one.
