Why didn't Skeet Ulrich become a star?

Since he was mentioned in the "failed miserably at being leading men" thread, I started to wonder why Skeet never made it big. He was brilliant in Scream and he was HOT. He is still pretty hot on Riverdale as Cole Sprouse's dad.

Was it his name? His teeth? His eerie resemblance to Johnny Depp?

Here is his Scream screen test. Say that 3 times fast, and please reply. Thank you.

I don't get it either, OP; I like him a lot.

He was the absolute star of "25 under 25" journalism back in the '80s. I kept waiting for him to happen, but he never showed up.

Hollywood doesn’t go for names like Skeet. What was his agent thinking?

I remember when Chris Rock called Johnny Depp the "rich man's Skeet Ulrich" at the VMAs.

Cute little butt.

He always looked kind of greasy.

Did he get a GQ cover story? Or was it only Details?

He really doesn't look like Johnny now.

Chill Factor was a big bomb in 1999, derailing his film career.

R10 Good point. I also remember reading interviews where he would mention upcoming roles that I then looked forward to seeing, that never happened. Like, the films were cancelled or maybe he was replaced. His most memorable films were probably Scream and As Good As It Gets. He didn't have a great film career, and went into TV (mostly) after age 31 (looking at IMDB).

He and Ryan Phillippe should have played lovers.
