Ken Jennings called out for past insensitive tweets
Ken Jennings is under fire for a past tweet mocking the disabled, just two days after it was announced he will be Alex Trebek’s temporary replacement on Jeopardy!. The comment in question is from 2014 in which Jennings wrote, “Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair.”
Sony Pictures Television revealed on Monday Jennings, a fan favorite who holds the record for the longest winning streak on the show, will kick off a series of interim guest hosts from the Jeopardy! family when production resumes on Nov. 30. Trebek died earlier this month from pancreatic cancer.
After the announcement, actress Yvette Nicole Brown simply commented, “Nope.” When asked by her followers why, she pointed them to Jennings’s old tweet.
Jennings previously apologized for the message. “I never did a public flogging thing for this but I did apologize personally to angry/hurt people who reached out personally,” he tweeted in 2018. “It was a joke so inept that it meant something very different in my head & I regret the ableist plain reading of it!”
It’s not the only tweet Jennings is receiving flak for. In 2015, he made an insensitive comment when Star Wars fan, Daniel Fleetwood, died of cancer after getting to screen Star Wars: The Force Awakens early. Jennings wrote, “It can’t be a good sign that every fan who has seen the new Star Wars movie died shortly thereafter.”
Jennings hasn’t addressed the renewed backlash.
It has been a big week for the Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time winner. On Tuesday, Jennings received a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Spoken Word Album for his co-narration of the audio version of Trebek’s July book, The Answer Is...: Reflections of My Life. The two remained close ever since Jennings first appeared on the game show in 2004.
Yahoo Entertainment reached out to Sony Pictures Entertainment for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Gawd, I loathe Twitter, and the assholes who are so determined to find someone to attack that they'll comb through YEARS olf old tweets just to find something to object to.

What a fucking asshole.
He's also homophobic, but lucky for him he hasn't tweeted his real feelings about gay people.
Jennings is an asshole homophobic Mormon, who has zero appeal.
I don't know why the Jeopardy producers love him.

Is R7 serious? Every Late Night show has a writing staff made up predominantly of Ivy Leaguers. Conan himself went to Harvard,

R1 - seriously? I love that twitter exposes dumbasses. And it’s not that difficult combing through someone’s tweets. I would think Jeopardy might have a few communications people on shit like that.

Yvette Nicole Brown should have several seats. She worked for known pedophile Dan Snyder for years and said nothing as little girls were abused. Fuck her.

I'd love to see Ken Jennings tweet exactly that r17. Just occasionally instead of giving some long sad apology that the professionally aggrieved will never accept anyway, just throw shit back at them.

My vote is for LeVar Burton. I've always liked him, and I think he'd do well as Jeopardy! host.

I hope R14 isn't yet another burner account of the "Welp Troll" troll. They also use the phrase "Klan Granny."
For the record, I don't really like Ken Jennings, especially since he's a Mormon homophobe, but it's obvious that the producers were going to choose him for a while. He got signed on as a consulting producer earlier this season, he's the "Greatest of All Time" champion, he's hosted game shows before and, unlike a lot of the other names being tossed around, knows most of the answers in the categories.
Alex Trebek, at least before his cancer diagnosis chilled him the fuck out, always came across as smug as arrogant to me, especially when he'd scold contestants in that sharp tone when they didn't know an answer. Unlike with Trebek, where you doubted that he knew much of the content on the show, you know Jennings knows his shit. Plus, I'm sure Ken isn't going to act all smug and shit at first, especially not during his trial period. He'll want to make a good impression to win the job.
So disregard what the Twitter mob and Yvette Nicole Pedophile Enabling Brown have to say. They are not the majority of the audience and I'm sure people will still be watching, whether Ken is the host or not.

I’d rather see LeVar working as an actor in high profile projects rather than turn into a game show host.

I am no fan of Ken Jennings, but if he apologized sincerely once, that's enough.
For Yvette Brown to consider this somehow an unforgivable offense after he apologized is itself offensive. I am sick of cancel culture.

R41 Ken Jennings was a software programmer. Also, to be able to retain that much knowledge requires a higher degree of intelligence than most people possess. Unless Ken is autistic (which we have no reason to believe that he is), then it shows he is very smart. Same with James Holzhauer.

As incredible as it is that there are actually people who would spend time scouring years of some nobody's Twitter history hoping to find cancel-bait -- if one is in the public eye, up for a life-changing very public job opportunity, wouldn't a bloke think to delete anything and everything publically accessible that might be seized upon by the Orthodoxy Warriors of 2020...?
