I don’t think of ‘ask’ as a noun being a product of the time of COVID-19, but I agree it is horrid. There was a young adult (?) book called The Ask and The Answer that came out several years ago. The use of ‘ask’ as a noun has been around a while, and it makes no sense.

It’s similar to ‘impact’ being used as a verb. Both of these words are pointless when there are other perfectly good words that don’t require you to subvert their noun vs verb natures in order to use them.
