Since my last poll was criticized, this one just focuses on the women.
SNL Woman was the funniest?

Meant to add more, but couldn't

Chuvy, I'm standing here outside the White House.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 24, 2020 4:11 PM |
How old are you references. And WHET Mary Gross. I had to google her. Yeah she was funny but not completely forgotten. I can't even remember a character.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 24, 2020 4:13 PM |
I'm torn between Hooks and Wiig. I came down siding Hooks as Wiig's characters were generally somewhat similar... loud, shrieky, freaky, whereas Hooks played a wider range as I recall..
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 24, 2020 4:14 PM |
None of the above.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 24, 2020 4:17 PM |
It’s Gilda by a country mile, but I would have put Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer or Amy Poehler in before Mary Gross! I began to question Nora Dunn but remembered Pat Stevens so she gets quadruple jump credit for that.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 24, 2020 4:19 PM |
I had to go with Jan Hooks over Laraine Newman but it was a tough choice. Both are/were brilliant comedians.
Gilda is getting all those votes because she was so lovable. Don’t get me wrong, she was funny, but her primary appeal was her sweetness.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 24, 2020 4:21 PM |
Cheri Oteri ????
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 24, 2020 4:22 PM |
So subjective. I *would* say that Gilda was the most endearing and Hooks (arguably) the best actress.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 24, 2020 4:22 PM |
I voted for Gilda, but did pause and consider a couple others. Is everyone voting for the funniest woman while she was on SNL? Or are you considering them the funniest in general? Because if it’s the latter, JLD and Jane Curtin deserve a lot more consideration for their performances in later sitcoms.
And what the fuck is wrong with you OP that you would leave out Kate McKinnon?!?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 24, 2020 4:25 PM |
But Gilda Radner was prime minister of Israel wasn't she? Or India? I thought that name was there for a joke because it's a comedy thread.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 24, 2020 4:28 PM |
Is Maya Rudolf too snarky? Seems like she would appeal to a lot of DLers.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 24, 2020 4:28 PM |
Rudolph
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 24, 2020 4:28 PM |
I wonder what Emily Litella would have thought about the 2020 presidential erection. Roseanna Danna Danna would have been commenting on the orange boogers coming out of Trump's nose when he got angry.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 24, 2020 4:30 PM |
R16 here, Oh Dear (before someone Oh Dear's me). Roseanna ROSEANNA Danna.....
Lisa Loopner here.....Still haunted by "The Way We Were".....
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 24, 2020 4:32 PM |
I've come to really like Wiig in her post-SNL career, but man, I HAAAAAATED her when she was actually on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 24, 2020 4:36 PM |
We all know the least funny was that insane baby-talking Nazi.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2020 4:39 PM |
No Sarah Silverman? Or are we just going from their content on SNL?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 24, 2020 4:46 PM |
Doesn’t have Cheri Oteri so this list is irrelevant
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 24, 2020 4:53 PM |
Kristen Wiig is definitely the funniest and most versatile. I think Julia Louis-Drefuss is the most talented actress, though.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 29, 2021 1:31 AM |
I think we all know the answer to this. Thread closed!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 29, 2021 1:35 AM |
Victoria Jackson was horrible, but she did do a great Roseanne Barr. Two peas in a MAGA pod, those two.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 29, 2021 1:44 AM |
I thought Nora Dunn and Jan Hooks were outstanding but the show does find great talent. Although not the best, there's a very comforting quality about Aidy Bryant's presence. She should do well on sitcoms.
And I have to say it again. Debra Wilson was better than almost any of them.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 29, 2021 1:49 AM |
Gilda, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 29, 2021 1:52 AM |
Nora Dunn, my all-time favorite. Loved her as Pat Stevens. So funny.
I also liked Larraine Newman.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 29, 2021 1:56 AM |
Rachel Dratch for me
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 29, 2021 2:04 AM |
In your poll I would say Jan Hooks, she was on during my teen years so maybe why I favor her
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 29, 2021 2:15 AM |
Who the hell is Mary Gross? I Googled and am as yet still unsure. She apparently only existed until approximately 1987 and looked like a Lesbian schoolmarm (I literally resemble that remark) if not an actual spinster. Did she pass? This will take me off my informal hunt for Kate Nelligan so I'll need more information before I decide to take on Mary Gross.
Gilda was precious. She also was fearless in her physical comedy. Bless her soul.
Jan Hooks was a force who did not give a fuck. She was fierce. She worked SNL like it was Broadway. I voted for her. Bless her soul.
Kristen Wiig has a tinge of darkness in her comedy which makes her unique. I like that.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 29, 2021 2:25 AM |
Melanie Hutsell.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 29, 2021 2:27 AM |
I couldn’t not vote for Gilda, but Jan Hooks is an extremely close second on this list for me. I also loved Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Cheri Oteri.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 29, 2021 2:44 AM |
You should have your ass stuffed with live roaches, OP. You left out Denny Dillon.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 29, 2021 3:03 AM |
Wiig? Gurl, no! Yes to Radner though.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 29, 2021 3:10 AM |
Cheri Oteri should have replaced JLD because JLD's stint on SNL was not that memorable.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 29, 2021 3:15 AM |
It's kind of amazing that SNL has been on for 46 years, and self-deprecating of Michaels to note that it hasn't been exciting since the 90s (but that doesn't surprise me because nothing has been as exciting since the 90s).
Nevertheless, Gilda Radner set the standard for SNL women, and few have reached it. I'd nominate Tina Fey.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 29, 2021 4:15 AM |
All hilarious but my favorite's Kristin Wiig, she and Bill Hader made the show. Though I think everybody's partial to the cast they grew up with
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 29, 2021 4:24 AM |
Cecily Strong belongs in the poll. She's more versatile than Kate McKinnon (although Kate deserves to be there too).
Those two are the women on the current show holding it together (although Aidy Bryant does her best with the shit writing).
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 29, 2021 4:36 AM |
Debra Wilson, Mo Collins, and Stephanie Weir were Mad TV but they were the funniest women in sketch comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 29, 2021 4:46 AM |
Maya Rudolph.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 29, 2021 4:48 AM |
r42, shit she did a good Oprah. So good.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 29, 2021 4:51 AM |
Gilda will always be my #1 SNL funny lady. And there are a few others along the way (including Molly Shannon, though more specifically for the film "Superstar" which I watch at least once a month), but I only just discovered this Wiig role today...and I love it.
"I love same-sex relationships!!!"
Watching Leslie Jones stifling her reaction to Wiig's performance is great.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 29, 2021 4:51 AM |
One of my all time favorite snl ladies, Danitra Vance.
RIP you funny bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 29, 2021 4:58 AM |
Gilda Radner for sure. I would stay up by myself, age 7, to watch SNL on the off chance Rosanne Rosannadanna would appear. I bawled when Gilda died.
Wiig is great for the silver medal.
The votes for Hutsell are jokes, right? Did she ever utter a sentence without botching & flubbing the punchline? Did she have a stuttering issue?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 29, 2021 5:24 AM |
r41 those 3 are the only women worth while on the show (and they may all be leaving.)
The rest of the women cast are so non-descript.
I was surprised to watch the credits the other day and notice they only have about 10 writers. No wonder the show is so bad. (is that because of covid cutbacks?)
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 29, 2021 6:14 AM |
Leslie Jones' "obsession" with Steve Kornachi was hilarious.
Also, I'd like to suck Steve off - while he's at the whiteboard, of course.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 29, 2021 3:22 PM |
Maya Rudolph, for me
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 31, 2021 6:41 AM |
Nora and Jan both kill it here, with Phil as Barbara Bush.
