Actors who are/were gay but don't ping for you onscreen

Rock Hudson

Raymond Burr

Luke Evans doesn't ping for me in the roles I've seen him in

by Anonymousreply 58November 29, 2020 11:27 PM

Agree on Raymond Burr. I was genuinely surprised when I found out he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 1November 19, 2020 12:27 AM

Jesse L. Martin. Maybe he pings to ther people. I had no clue dude was family.

by Anonymousreply 2November 19, 2020 12:37 AM

Jesse L. Martin never came out as gay.

by Anonymousreply 3November 19, 2020 12:49 AM

Actor George Grizzard

Roy Stuart (Cpl. Boyle on "Gomer Pyle")

by Anonymousreply 4November 19, 2020 12:53 AM

Martin pings to me

by Anonymousreply 5November 19, 2020 2:31 AM

Sherman Hemsley

by Anonymousreply 6November 19, 2020 2:37 AM

Oliver Jackson Cohen

by Anonymousreply 7November 20, 2020 5:55 PM

Cary Grant. No, really, I can understand why some people still don't believe he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 8November 20, 2020 5:57 PM

Luke MacFarlane most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 9November 20, 2020 5:58 PM

If you pay attention, you can see Raymond Burr occasionally lose his self-control and queen out for a few seconds on Perry Mason.

by Anonymousreply 10November 20, 2020 6:00 PM

Jodie Foster.

by Anonymousreply 11November 20, 2020 6:06 PM

Jodie pings

by Anonymousreply 12November 20, 2020 6:07 PM

Hugh Jackman

by Anonymousreply 13November 20, 2020 6:08 PM

John Travolta pings for me in interviews but not in his movie roles

by Anonymousreply 14November 20, 2020 6:11 PM

James Daly.

by Anonymousreply 15November 20, 2020 6:15 PM

Joel Crothers

by Anonymousreply 16November 20, 2020 6:23 PM

If all those rumors are to be believed, Matt Leblanc.

by Anonymousreply 17November 20, 2020 6:27 PM

Actually, I can barely say that Tommy Cruise pings on screen.

by Anonymousreply 18November 20, 2020 6:38 PM

Jimmy Olsen on Superman.

by Anonymousreply 19November 20, 2020 7:54 PM

[Quote] Jimmy Olsen on Superman.

Which one?

by Anonymousreply 20November 21, 2020 5:55 AM

[quote]Oliver Jackson Cohen

Have we confirmed he is gay?

by Anonymousreply 21November 21, 2020 6:06 AM

J.E. Freeman, who played the vicious thug in Miller’s Crossing. The character is written to be gay, but Freeman himself didn’t ping, for me at least.

by Anonymousreply 22November 21, 2020 6:21 AM

Ben Aldridge from Fleabag doesn’t ping at all on screen. But when he isn’t acting, boy do the handbags 👜 fly out.

by Anonymousreply 23November 21, 2020 6:26 AM

Jodie Foster pings--not to me, R12. Isn't the thread about "Actors who are/were gay but don't ping for you onscreen"?

So mind your own business, si vous plait.

by Anonymousreply 24November 21, 2020 6:47 AM

Speaking of Fleabag, Andrew Scott doesn't really ping for me, either

by Anonymousreply 25November 21, 2020 5:54 PM

R20 The original one - Jack Larson.

by Anonymousreply 26November 21, 2020 6:55 PM

Versatile supporting actor Henry Brandon, best known as "Scar" in John Ford's THE SEARCHERS.

Partner of Judy Husband #4, Mark Herron.

by Anonymousreply 27November 21, 2020 11:35 PM

Pedro Pascal

by Anonymousreply 28November 21, 2020 11:37 PM

R11 Jodie is a Bull dyke, I can’t see her in a relationship with a man at all.

by Anonymousreply 29November 22, 2020 12:00 AM

Great, but I disagree. I think she is sexy with men in The Inside Man. My opinion.

by Anonymousreply 30November 22, 2020 12:03 AM

Jesse Martin is NOT gay. I've worked with him a couple of times and know him pretty well.

by Anonymousreply 31November 22, 2020 12:08 AM

I think Russell Tovey plays straight men brilliantly.

by Anonymousreply 32November 22, 2020 12:09 AM

Pedro Pascal is a badass on The Mandalorian, but then, that's also not really him in the costume most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 33November 22, 2020 12:16 AM

R33, He’s much better on Narcos and Game Of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 34November 22, 2020 12:24 AM

R31, if that's true then I guess he's the opposite of this thread - a guy who's straight but comes across as gayish on the screen

by Anonymousreply 35November 22, 2020 5:26 AM

Off topic but, are Pedro Pascal and Edgar Ramirez a couple?

by Anonymousreply 36November 22, 2020 1:21 PM

Clifton Davis

John Amos

Paul Winfield

by Anonymousreply 37November 22, 2020 1:26 PM

Clooney doesn't ping onscreen but does in interviews. He reminds me of Raymond Burr in many ways and is even starting to look like him.

by Anonymousreply 38November 22, 2020 2:11 PM

Tom Cruise | John Travolta

by Anonymousreply 39November 22, 2020 2:22 PM

Travolta does not ping.

Travolta quakes.

by Anonymousreply 40November 22, 2020 2:28 PM

Do any DLers know Dino Fetscher? He's a young British actor, very hot, appeared in the UK series Gentleman Jack, Humans, Paranoid, The Split, Banana, Years and Years, etc., who can totally read as straight. But he's gay and very upfront about it in interviews and on Instagram. Check him out!

by Anonymousreply 41November 22, 2020 3:12 PM

Guillermo Diaz. I knew him from Weeds and would not have guessed he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 42November 22, 2020 3:14 PM

I don't think it's that Andrew Scott doesn't ping on screen ever, because he brings a gay sensibility to his roles when he wants to and he pings plenty there. I just think it's that he's a brilliant actor and can shut it on and off at will. Agree about Russell Tovey too. Both those men come from a background of homophobic religious parents who probably forced them to codeswitch 24/7 and present as butch as possible growing up or risk backlash from family and peers, so they lean into that as actors now.

by Anonymousreply 43November 22, 2020 9:11 PM

I can't believe no one's mentioned Robert Reed.

Also, Earl Holliman if anyone remembers him.

As a kid I never thought Richard Deacon seemed gay, just a big nerd.

by Anonymousreply 44November 22, 2020 9:31 PM

[quote]Oliver Jackson Cohen

[quote]Have we confirmed he is gay?

We have not. He keeps a very low profile but he hasn't had a public girlfriend in several years.

by Anonymousreply 45November 22, 2020 10:01 PM

R44, agree about Earl Holloman

George Maharis didn't ping for me on the screen, either

by Anonymousreply 46November 22, 2020 10:36 PM

William Hopper, son of Hedda and remembered as Paul Drake on Perry Mason.

by Anonymousreply 47November 22, 2020 11:56 PM

George Chakiris came off as creditably straight when he wasn't kicking up his heels in West Side Story.

by Anonymousreply 48November 22, 2020 11:57 PM

George Nader. He was a popular actor in the 50s, but his career went down the tubes after Rock Hudson's agent outed him in exchange for the mainstream press to ignore Hudson's gay parties and, for the times, scandalous behavior. I never knew Nader was gay until the stories surfaced about his unspeakable treatment by the agent.

^^ You know how you can tell he's straight? The muscles.

Also, no poodle.

by Anonymousreply 50November 23, 2020 11:28 AM

R49 *promising to ignore*

by Anonymousreply 51November 23, 2020 11:33 AM

George Nader was hot as hell

by Anonymousreply 52November 23, 2020 3:31 PM

Thomas Gomez, the Latinx Raymond Burr.

by Anonymousreply 53November 23, 2020 7:02 PM

Harry Andrews. I've seen him in a bunch of things and he never pinged for me

by Anonymousreply 54November 24, 2020 12:08 AM

Robert Conrad

by Anonymousreply 55November 24, 2020 12:36 AM

Tony Geary

by Anonymousreply 56November 29, 2020 8:55 PM

Craig Stevens of 'Peter Gunn' fame. I don't see it. But according to DL, his marriage to Alexis Smith was as lavender as a Macys perfume counter.

by Anonymousreply 57November 29, 2020 8:58 PM

[quote]Guillermo Diaz. I knew him from Weeds and would not have guessed he was gay.

Hot guys don't "ping".
