Actors who are/were gay but don't ping for you onscreen

Rock Hudson

Raymond Burr

Luke Evans doesn't ping for me in the roles I've seen him in

by Anonymousreply 55Yesterday at 3:36 PM

Agree on Raymond Burr. I was genuinely surprised when I found out he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 1Last Wednesday at 3:27 PM

Jesse L. Martin. Maybe he pings to ther people. I had no clue dude was family.

by Anonymousreply 2Last Wednesday at 3:37 PM

Jesse L. Martin never came out as gay.

by Anonymousreply 3Last Wednesday at 3:49 PM

Actor George Grizzard

Roy Stuart (Cpl. Boyle on "Gomer Pyle")

by Anonymousreply 4Last Wednesday at 3:53 PM

Martin pings to me

by Anonymousreply 5Last Wednesday at 5:31 PM

Sherman Hemsley

by Anonymousreply 6Last Wednesday at 5:37 PM

Oliver Jackson Cohen

by Anonymousreply 7Last Friday at 8:55 AM

Cary Grant. No, really, I can understand why some people still don't believe he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 8Last Friday at 8:57 AM

Luke MacFarlane most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 9Last Friday at 8:58 AM

If you pay attention, you can see Raymond Burr occasionally lose his self-control and queen out for a few seconds on Perry Mason.

by Anonymousreply 10Last Friday at 9:00 AM

Jodie Foster.

by Anonymousreply 11Last Friday at 9:06 AM

Jodie pings

by Anonymousreply 12Last Friday at 9:07 AM

Hugh Jackman

by Anonymousreply 13Last Friday at 9:08 AM

John Travolta pings for me in interviews but not in his movie roles

by Anonymousreply 14Last Friday at 9:11 AM

James Daly.

by Anonymousreply 15Last Friday at 9:15 AM

Joel Crothers

by Anonymousreply 16Last Friday at 9:23 AM

If all those rumors are to be believed, Matt Leblanc.

by Anonymousreply 17Last Friday at 9:27 AM

Actually, I can barely say that Tommy Cruise pings on screen.

by Anonymousreply 18Last Friday at 9:38 AM

Jimmy Olsen on Superman.

by Anonymousreply 19Last Friday at 10:54 AM

[Quote] Jimmy Olsen on Superman.

Which one?

by Anonymousreply 20Last Friday at 8:55 PM

[quote]Oliver Jackson Cohen

Have we confirmed he is gay?

by Anonymousreply 21Last Friday at 9:06 PM

J.E. Freeman, who played the vicious thug in Miller’s Crossing. The character is written to be gay, but Freeman himself didn’t ping, for me at least.

by Anonymousreply 22Last Friday at 9:21 PM

Ben Aldridge from Fleabag doesn’t ping at all on screen. But when he isn’t acting, boy do the handbags 👜 fly out.

by Anonymousreply 23Last Friday at 9:26 PM

Jodie Foster pings--not to me, R12. Isn't the thread about "Actors who are/were gay but don't ping for you onscreen"?

So mind your own business, si vous plait.

by Anonymousreply 24Last Friday at 9:47 PM

Speaking of Fleabag, Andrew Scott doesn't really ping for me, either

by Anonymousreply 25Last Saturday at 8:54 AM

R20 The original one - Jack Larson.

by Anonymousreply 26Last Saturday at 9:55 AM

Versatile supporting actor Henry Brandon, best known as "Scar" in John Ford's THE SEARCHERS.

Partner of Judy Husband #4, Mark Herron.

by Anonymousreply 27Last Saturday at 2:35 PM

Pedro Pascal

by Anonymousreply 28Last Saturday at 2:37 PM

R11 Jodie is a Bull dyke, I can’t see her in a relationship with a man at all.

by Anonymousreply 29Last Saturday at 3:00 PM

Great, but I disagree. I think she is sexy with men in The Inside Man. My opinion.

by Anonymousreply 30Last Saturday at 3:03 PM

Jesse Martin is NOT gay. I've worked with him a couple of times and know him pretty well.

by Anonymousreply 31Last Saturday at 3:08 PM

I think Russell Tovey plays straight men brilliantly.

by Anonymousreply 32Last Saturday at 3:09 PM

Pedro Pascal is a badass on The Mandalorian, but then, that's also not really him in the costume most of the time.

by Anonymousreply 33Last Saturday at 3:16 PM

R33, He’s much better on Narcos and Game Of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 34Last Saturday at 3:24 PM

R31, if that's true then I guess he's the opposite of this thread - a guy who's straight but comes across as gayish on the screen

by Anonymousreply 35Last Saturday at 8:26 PM

Off topic but, are Pedro Pascal and Edgar Ramirez a couple?

by Anonymousreply 36Last Sunday at 4:21 AM

Clifton Davis

John Amos

Paul Winfield

by Anonymousreply 37Last Sunday at 4:26 AM

Clooney doesn't ping onscreen but does in interviews. He reminds me of Raymond Burr in many ways and is even starting to look like him.

by Anonymousreply 38Last Sunday at 5:11 AM

Tom Cruise | John Travolta

by Anonymousreply 39Last Sunday at 5:22 AM

Travolta does not ping.

Travolta quakes.

by Anonymousreply 40Last Sunday at 5:28 AM

Do any DLers know Dino Fetscher? He's a young British actor, very hot, appeared in the UK series Gentleman Jack, Humans, Paranoid, The Split, Banana, Years and Years, etc., who can totally read as straight. But he's gay and very upfront about it in interviews and on Instagram. Check him out!

by Anonymousreply 41Last Sunday at 6:12 AM

Guillermo Diaz. I knew him from Weeds and would not have guessed he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 42Last Sunday at 6:14 AM

I don't think it's that Andrew Scott doesn't ping on screen ever, because he brings a gay sensibility to his roles when he wants to and he pings plenty there. I just think it's that he's a brilliant actor and can shut it on and off at will. Agree about Russell Tovey too. Both those men come from a background of homophobic religious parents who probably forced them to codeswitch 24/7 and present as butch as possible growing up or risk backlash from family and peers, so they lean into that as actors now.

by Anonymousreply 43Last Sunday at 12:11 PM

I can't believe no one's mentioned Robert Reed.

Also, Earl Holliman if anyone remembers him.

As a kid I never thought Richard Deacon seemed gay, just a big nerd.

by Anonymousreply 44Last Sunday at 12:31 PM

[quote]Oliver Jackson Cohen

[quote]Have we confirmed he is gay?

We have not. He keeps a very low profile but he hasn't had a public girlfriend in several years.

by Anonymousreply 45Last Sunday at 1:01 PM

R44, agree about Earl Holloman

George Maharis didn't ping for me on the screen, either

by Anonymousreply 46Last Sunday at 1:36 PM

William Hopper, son of Hedda and remembered as Paul Drake on Perry Mason.

by Anonymousreply 47Last Sunday at 2:56 PM

George Chakiris came off as creditably straight when he wasn't kicking up his heels in West Side Story.

by Anonymousreply 48Last Sunday at 2:57 PM

George Nader. He was a popular actor in the 50s, but his career went down the tubes after Rock Hudson's agent outed him in exchange for the mainstream press to ignore Hudson's gay parties and, for the times, scandalous behavior. I never knew Nader was gay until the stories surfaced about his unspeakable treatment by the agent.

^^ You know how you can tell he's straight? The muscles.

Also, no poodle.

by Anonymousreply 50Yesterday at 2:28 AM

R49 *promising to ignore*

by Anonymousreply 51Yesterday at 2:33 AM

George Nader was hot as hell

by Anonymousreply 52Yesterday at 6:31 AM

Thomas Gomez, the Latinx Raymond Burr.

by Anonymousreply 53Yesterday at 10:02 AM

Harry Andrews. I've seen him in a bunch of things and he never pinged for me

by Anonymousreply 54Yesterday at 3:08 PM

Robert Conrad

by Anonymousreply 55Yesterday at 3:36 PM
