Wolfgang Van Halen

With Eddie’s passing I have been thinking about his son. First, why is he so big compared to his Dad who was always a small guy? I realize Valerie struggled with her weight but their son is really big. Also, does he have friends outside of his father and uncle? He seems to be having a really hard time with his father’s passing like he won’t get past it. It had to be expected.

Seriously, give the guy a break, whether it was "expected" or not his dad who he was especially close to just died at a very young age. Anyone with half a heart would have a "hard time" with that initially. You're an ice queen and/or just extremely ignorant about death and mourning. The fact that he's even going out there publicly, doing interviews and performing this soon is remarkable actually, many people isolate for 6 months to a year after losing a loved one. "Expected" has nothing to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 1November 18, 2020 7:56 AM

Plus, "expected" death rarely happens in one clean crisis. There's a crisis, everyone rushes with them to the hospital, hangs on every breath, then goes back to normal. Then it happens again, everyone freaks out, and it resolves like the first time. By the seventh crisis in 12 weeks, it becomes a routine.

When the Big Event finally happens, everyone IS genuinely shocked, because by that point, a medical crisis became a yawn-worthy routine. After a while, you get used to it, because you'd go insane if you DIDN'T.

by Anonymousreply 2November 18, 2020 8:17 AM

I wonder what it's like to miss a family member? I'm so glad mine are gone. I don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 3November 18, 2020 8:28 AM

My father got sick suddenly and died and I was traumatized for years. I was 22 years old. Op is a dick. So he’s fat? What’s it to you ?

by Anonymousreply 4November 18, 2020 8:41 AM

I thought that was Chaz Bono...?

by Anonymousreply 5November 18, 2020 8:52 AM

First of all, I’m a cunt not a duck.

Second, I’ve buried both my parents from cancer so I understand loss.

And I never called him fat but I find it ironic that this board of all boards is scolding me about calling someone fat (which again I didn’t) when you call people god awful names all the time.

Lastly, I asked about him because it seemed like he never had a life outside of the band. I never saw him with a girlfriend or friends his own age I guess maybe they just didn’t show it but I feel bad for the kid it seems like he’s lost without his Dad and that’s why I asked.

So go fuck yourselves.

by Anonymousreply 6November 18, 2020 8:54 AM

Sorry, OP, you're actually an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 7November 18, 2020 9:00 AM

Wolfgang lives by himself. He has a girlfriend named Andrea. He told Howard Stern he is introspective by nature so he has been coping with the pandemic solitude.

by Anonymousreply 8November 18, 2020 9:02 AM

At what point would the entertainment media have ever shown us this kid's girlfriends?

He has a girlfriend, even though you haven't seen her. You didn't even check his social media before assuming he didn't have one and was a loser with no life? What a dumb thread this is.

by Anonymousreply 9November 18, 2020 9:05 AM

He has been on val’s cooking show and seems like a nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 10November 18, 2020 9:13 AM

Wolfgang looks amazingly like an equal combination of both his parents. One thing I've always felt about Eddie that despite all the trials and tribulations of a life defined by "drugs, sex and rock n' roll", he always appeared to be truly enjoying his life and family. I believe Wolfgang to be lucky compared to most "Hollywood kids". I'm sorry for the loss of his dad :(

by Anonymousreply 11November 18, 2020 9:16 AM

OP, are you wolfgang’s neighbor? A concerned family friend? Are you referring to an interview or article you stupidly forgot to share? Pretty presumptuous (and fat) if you to assume what this kid is thinking/feeling.

by Anonymousreply 12November 18, 2020 9:35 AM

Such a sick cunt R6. You make at least 2 allusions to his weight in your OP. You inquired specifically about his weight and compared it to his mother's.

FF ratchet cunt OP.

by Anonymousreply 13November 18, 2020 11:10 AM

Hard time? Didn’t his father die like a month ago? Mine died 20 years ago and I still have a hard time with it.

Speak not of what you can’t know, bitches.

by Anonymousreply 14November 18, 2020 11:35 AM

Isn’t his mom a great big fat person as well?

by Anonymousreply 15November 18, 2020 11:37 AM

omg a cow....so unhealthy wtf?

by Anonymousreply 16November 18, 2020 11:41 AM

[quote] He seems to be having a really hard time with his father’s passing like he won’t get past it.

He's an only child. I'm an only child and after my parents died, the hardest thing is not having anyone understanding what you're going through. That's something siblings are good for.

by Anonymousreply 17November 18, 2020 11:44 AM

Exactly what R2 said, even with long-term, even terminal illness it’s not “expected”. It’s a series of medical emergencies and setbacks that you get through, until the final one, that you don’t. My first thought when I woke up the morning after my fathers death was “maybe something we try today will help us turn this corner.” And then you still have to get through a lot of weirdness with funeral planning and estate settling until the day to day routine sets in and you really begin to realize what’s different and what you lost. It’s almost harder then all of the rest because you just don’t expect it to be so hard.

Wolfie is a young man, he’s going to live a lot of his life without his father. And he seems like a genuine, kind person. My heart breaks for him to hear him talk about his dad.

Anyway, fuck off OP.

by Anonymousreply 18November 18, 2020 11:44 AM

Valerie started the trend of celebrity babies with awful names.

by Anonymousreply 19November 18, 2020 12:37 PM

I mean, his father has been dead what, a whole month, and he's still all like, sad about it? Dude, whatEVer, cheer up, it depresses everyone else to see you being Mr. Doomandgloom just because you buried your 60-something dad.

by Anonymousreply 20November 18, 2020 12:46 PM

@r19, No, Frank Zappa did with Moon Base and Dweezil

by Anonymousreply 21November 18, 2020 12:57 PM

He's fucking hot. I'd bang his ass.

by Anonymousreply 22November 18, 2020 1:14 PM

@R19: Nothing wrong with Wolfgang when you have a "van" in your last name.

by Anonymousreply 23November 18, 2020 1:26 PM

No one ever seems to mention how Van Halen fired their original bassist so Wolfie could have the job.

by Anonymousreply 24November 18, 2020 1:28 PM

Moon Unit, not Moon Base.

by Anonymousreply 25November 18, 2020 1:54 PM

I love Valerie Bertinelli, but Wolfie's weight is her doing. In addition to genetics, she clearly instilled in him some kind of food obsession.

by Anonymousreply 26November 18, 2020 2:09 PM

He's very mature for his age. He was an only child. Wolfgang's twitter videos featuring himself and his mom are very sweet; it's obvious he has always been close to both of his parents.

Eddie Van Halen was the one who only trusted family. If you read accounts of his former colleagues, he never could get along with anyone except his brother/bandmate, Alex, for very long. Even the band's fans were left disappointed when Eddie publicly said cruel things about his fellow bandmates. When he got pissed at someone (which apparently he did easily and frequently), he cut them out of his life. He was also an alcoholic much of his life, and he wasn't a "happy" drunk, according to Valerie's bio.

Eddie was diagnosed with cancer when Wolfgang was about ten. Wolfgang was probably terrified that he could lose his dad.

Eddie was obsessed with the guitar. Most nights he stayed up until 3 or 4 in the morning, drinking and playing the guitar, according to Valerie's bio. When their son was born, Eddie named him after one of the world's most famous composers. Wolfgang probably felt like he HAD to be a musician in order to relate to and get along with his dad. At age 13 and 14, he went on tour with Van Halen, and he played a song on stage with Eddie each night. When Wolfgang was 16, David Lee Roth rejoined Van Halen after two decades of nasty fighting. The fans were ecstatic, until it was announced that long-time bass-player Michael Anthony wasn't invited on the reunion tour, and Wolfgang was going to replace him. Some of the band's most loyal bands became resentful of Wolfgang for that.

Through all of that bullshit above, Valerie was a great cook. His parents never appeared to fatshame Wolfgang. Eddie was always outwardly proud of Wolfgang, especially because Wolfgang was a musician like him. Both Valerie and Eddie probably figured it was better that Wolfgang had turned to food instead of alcohol (which controlled Eddie's life).

Now Wolfgang is under a lot of pressure. He's been working on an album, and of course everyone is going to compare his music to his dad's, whom he misses terribly.

by Anonymousreply 27November 18, 2020 2:14 PM

It’s the Italian in him

by Anonymousreply 28November 18, 2020 2:20 PM

This is the bad thing about “My mom is my best friend” or “My dad is my best friend.” When they die, you’ve lost your parent & your best friend that you did everything with. You’re screwed.

by Anonymousreply 29November 18, 2020 2:56 PM

What other rock stars from the 70s and 80s have their son in the band?

by Anonymousreply 30November 18, 2020 3:17 PM

He's actually lost a lot of weight.

by Anonymousreply 31November 18, 2020 3:19 PM

Starland Vocal Band, Rose R30.

by Anonymousreply 32November 18, 2020 3:33 PM

[quote] What other rock stars from the 70s and 80s have their son in the band?

Lots. Many sons whose fathers are dead are in their father's former band (Deacon Frey, eg). Some are in their fathers band while their father is still alive (Will Frenley, eg). Other sons are in bands that don’t feature their fathers (Zak Starkey, Dhani Harrison). Then there are famous sons who start their own bands and get paid by recording companies as a sort of legacy (Sean Lennon, James McCartney). There are lots of others, but those are some of the most obvious ones.

Notice famous daughters don’t join their mom or dad’s rock bands. They become “models” and “fashion designers” and get jobs & publicity because of their parent’s fame.

by Anonymousreply 33November 18, 2020 3:36 PM

[quote]First, why is he so big compared to his Dad who was always a small guy?

Despite it being blatantly obvious from the entirety of your post, you cannot be this dumb.

by Anonymousreply 34November 18, 2020 3:46 PM

He looks like he has a glandular problem. That might be it.

by Anonymousreply 35November 18, 2020 4:10 PM

According to corporate America when a parent dies we need to hurry up and get back to work as soon as possible… The plantation won’t work without us. We’re nothing but fucking slaves and robots and no one gives a fucking shit about any of us.

by Anonymousreply 36November 18, 2020 4:22 PM

@r25, Hahaha! My bad, I always get my "Moons" mixed up

by Anonymousreply 37November 18, 2020 4:23 PM

[quote]Notice famous daughters don’t join their mom or dad’s rock bands.

Really? (And is it a coincidence that this also deals with a "One Day At a Time" actress?)

Wolfie's girlfriend Andrea has been on Valerie's cooking show several times. Both with and without him.

by Anonymousreply 39November 18, 2020 6:30 PM

One family, 50 years ago, R38?

by Anonymousreply 40November 18, 2020 10:01 PM

He's proof that having 2 good looking parents doesn't mean the genes get passed down.

by Anonymousreply 41November 18, 2020 11:56 PM

The Van Halen bros aren’t particularly good looking

by Anonymousreply 42November 19, 2020 12:00 AM

His dad isn’t just super famous- he’s a trailblazing superstar.

If I was Wolfie, I’d stay far, far away from the music industry.

by Anonymousreply 43November 19, 2020 12:03 AM

Eddie was very hot in the 80's R42. Agree his brother not so much.

by Anonymousreply 44November 19, 2020 12:39 AM

I think Wolfie is very good looking, even with the extra weight.

by Anonymousreply 45November 19, 2020 12:42 AM

[quote]When the Big Event finally happens, everyone IS genuinely shocked, because by that point, a medical crisis became a yawn-worthy routine. After a while, you get used to it, because you'd go insane if you DIDN'T.

After 4 months of doctor’s shock that my dad kept surviving crisis after crisis I was genuinely surprised when it finally happened, I was prepared but also believed he was invincible. OP is an asshat.

You just described me, R29, now I’m left with Beth Jarret for a mother. That was 10 years ago, according to OP I probably should have been over it before it even happened.

by Anonymousreply 46November 19, 2020 12:42 AM

Yes, true, he is huge. Obviously overweight. Much too heavy, especially for a guy his age.

by Anonymousreply 47November 19, 2020 12:43 AM

[quote]Eddie was very hot in the 80's [R42]. Agree his brother not so much.

Agree with all of this.

by Anonymousreply 48November 19, 2020 12:44 AM

Michael Anthony was the hot (AF) guy in the group.

by Anonymousreply 49November 19, 2020 12:49 AM

He may be the nicest guy going, but honey, that boy isnt just fat . Hes morbidly obese.

by Anonymousreply 50November 19, 2020 12:52 AM

If he lost weight, Wolfie would probably be hot af. He's already a good looking guy.

by Anonymousreply 51November 19, 2020 1:18 AM

More pics please. I like big guys!

by Anonymousreply 52November 19, 2020 3:18 AM

If wolf lost weight he would have a huge amount of extra skin. He would have to get surgery.

by Anonymousreply 53November 20, 2020 12:52 PM

What's wrong with not having friends or a girlfriend? I don't have it either, I prefer solitude. People are idiots.

by Anonymousreply 54November 20, 2020 1:06 PM

A little itsy bitsy amount of fat shaming can go a long way. May I suggest a salad 🥗 a day or every other? Slowly, slowly, we reverse course.

by Anonymousreply 55November 20, 2020 1:16 PM

Child needs to get weight loss surgery STAT!

It's done wonders for me. Look at how beautiful I am now!
