With Eddie’s passing I have been thinking about his son. First, why is he so big compared to his Dad who was always a small guy? I realize Valerie struggled with her weight but their son is really big. Also, does he have friends outside of his father and uncle? He seems to be having a really hard time with his father’s passing like he won’t get past it. It had to be expected.
Seriously, give the guy a break, whether it was "expected" or not his dad who he was especially close to just died at a very young age. Anyone with half a heart would have a "hard time" with that initially. You're an ice queen and/or just extremely ignorant about death and mourning. The fact that he's even going out there publicly, doing interviews and performing this soon is remarkable actually, many people isolate for 6 months to a year after losing a loved one. "Expected" has nothing to do with it.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 18, 2020 7:56 AM |
Plus, "expected" death rarely happens in one clean crisis. There's a crisis, everyone rushes with them to the hospital, hangs on every breath, then goes back to normal. Then it happens again, everyone freaks out, and it resolves like the first time. By the seventh crisis in 12 weeks, it becomes a routine.
When the Big Event finally happens, everyone IS genuinely shocked, because by that point, a medical crisis became a yawn-worthy routine. After a while, you get used to it, because you'd go insane if you DIDN'T.

I wonder what it's like to miss a family member? I'm so glad mine are gone. I don't get it.

My father got sick suddenly and died and I was traumatized for years. I was 22 years old. Op is a dick. So he’s fat? What’s it to you ?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 18, 2020 8:41 AM |
I thought that was Chaz Bono...?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 18, 2020 8:52 AM |
First of all, I’m a cunt not a duck.
Second, I’ve buried both my parents from cancer so I understand loss.
And I never called him fat but I find it ironic that this board of all boards is scolding me about calling someone fat (which again I didn’t) when you call people god awful names all the time.
Lastly, I asked about him because it seemed like he never had a life outside of the band. I never saw him with a girlfriend or friends his own age I guess maybe they just didn’t show it but I feel bad for the kid it seems like he’s lost without his Dad and that’s why I asked.
So go fuck yourselves.

Sorry, OP, you're actually an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 18, 2020 9:00 AM |
Wolfgang lives by himself. He has a girlfriend named Andrea. He told Howard Stern he is introspective by nature so he has been coping with the pandemic solitude.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 18, 2020 9:02 AM |
At what point would the entertainment media have ever shown us this kid's girlfriends?
He has a girlfriend, even though you haven't seen her. You didn't even check his social media before assuming he didn't have one and was a loser with no life? What a dumb thread this is.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 18, 2020 9:05 AM |
He has been on val’s cooking show and seems like a nice guy.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 18, 2020 9:13 AM |
Wolfgang looks amazingly like an equal combination of both his parents. One thing I've always felt about Eddie that despite all the trials and tribulations of a life defined by "drugs, sex and rock n' roll", he always appeared to be truly enjoying his life and family. I believe Wolfgang to be lucky compared to most "Hollywood kids". I'm sorry for the loss of his dad :(
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 18, 2020 9:16 AM |
OP, are you wolfgang’s neighbor? A concerned family friend? Are you referring to an interview or article you stupidly forgot to share? Pretty presumptuous (and fat) if you to assume what this kid is thinking/feeling.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 18, 2020 9:35 AM |
Such a sick cunt R6. You make at least 2 allusions to his weight in your OP. You inquired specifically about his weight and compared it to his mother's.
FF ratchet cunt OP.

[quote] He seems to be having a really hard time with his father’s passing like he won’t get past it.
He's an only child. I'm an only child and after my parents died, the hardest thing is not having anyone understanding what you're going through. That's something siblings are good for.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 18, 2020 11:44 AM |
Exactly what R2 said, even with long-term, even terminal illness it’s not “expected”. It’s a series of medical emergencies and setbacks that you get through, until the final one, that you don’t. My first thought when I woke up the morning after my fathers death was “maybe something we try today will help us turn this corner.” And then you still have to get through a lot of weirdness with funeral planning and estate settling until the day to day routine sets in and you really begin to realize what’s different and what you lost. It’s almost harder then all of the rest because you just don’t expect it to be so hard.
Wolfie is a young man, he’s going to live a lot of his life without his father. And he seems like a genuine, kind person. My heart breaks for him to hear him talk about his dad.
Anyway, fuck off OP.

I love Valerie Bertinelli, but Wolfie's weight is her doing. In addition to genetics, she clearly instilled in him some kind of food obsession.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 18, 2020 2:09 PM |
He's very mature for his age. He was an only child. Wolfgang's twitter videos featuring himself and his mom are very sweet; it's obvious he has always been close to both of his parents.
Eddie Van Halen was the one who only trusted family. If you read accounts of his former colleagues, he never could get along with anyone except his brother/bandmate, Alex, for very long. Even the band's fans were left disappointed when Eddie publicly said cruel things about his fellow bandmates. When he got pissed at someone (which apparently he did easily and frequently), he cut them out of his life. He was also an alcoholic much of his life, and he wasn't a "happy" drunk, according to Valerie's bio.
Eddie was diagnosed with cancer when Wolfgang was about ten. Wolfgang was probably terrified that he could lose his dad.
Eddie was obsessed with the guitar. Most nights he stayed up until 3 or 4 in the morning, drinking and playing the guitar, according to Valerie's bio. When their son was born, Eddie named him after one of the world's most famous composers. Wolfgang probably felt like he HAD to be a musician in order to relate to and get along with his dad. At age 13 and 14, he went on tour with Van Halen, and he played a song on stage with Eddie each night. When Wolfgang was 16, David Lee Roth rejoined Van Halen after two decades of nasty fighting. The fans were ecstatic, until it was announced that long-time bass-player Michael Anthony wasn't invited on the reunion tour, and Wolfgang was going to replace him. Some of the band's most loyal bands became resentful of Wolfgang for that.
Through all of that bullshit above, Valerie was a great cook. His parents never appeared to fatshame Wolfgang. Eddie was always outwardly proud of Wolfgang, especially because Wolfgang was a musician like him. Both Valerie and Eddie probably figured it was better that Wolfgang had turned to food instead of alcohol (which controlled Eddie's life).
Now Wolfgang is under a lot of pressure. He's been working on an album, and of course everyone is going to compare his music to his dad's, whom he misses terribly.

This is the bad thing about “My mom is my best friend” or “My dad is my best friend.” When they die, you’ve lost your parent & your best friend that you did everything with. You’re screwed.

[quote] What other rock stars from the 70s and 80s have their son in the band?
Lots. Many sons whose fathers are dead are in their father's former band (Deacon Frey, eg). Some are in their fathers band while their father is still alive (Will Frenley, eg). Other sons are in bands that don’t feature their fathers (Zak Starkey, Dhani Harrison). Then there are famous sons who start their own bands and get paid by recording companies as a sort of legacy (Sean Lennon, James McCartney). There are lots of others, but those are some of the most obvious ones.
Notice famous daughters don’t join their mom or dad’s rock bands. They become “models” and “fashion designers” and get jobs & publicity because of their parent’s fame.
