When I was young, only attractive, fit people were seen in TV commercials to advertise a product or service. Now there’s fat, ugly slobs in every TV commercial. Are they doing this to appeal to the unwashed masses? It’s disgusting to see these losers on my TV.
Why do modern TV commercials use fat, ugly, or average looking actors?

They want to appeal to the average American.

LOL. Like 75% of Americans are overweight but maybe 10% (if that) of commercial actors are. The woman in your link is hardly hideous, you could step outside and see a thousand people who are worse looking than that

My dear, it is because the fraus are getting more vulnerable every year. The fraus can not tolerate sitting at home with their cheetos while watching beautiful successful women on TV. It is too cruel for fraus. It is a constant reminder of how unattractive they are. So they stop watching. TV shows will have to put other fraus on TV to make them feel better.

Yeah, r3, that must be why fashion magazines are full of skinny models

Aw blow it out yer arse OP!

r3, except the female actors are under way more pressure to be thin. It's the male actors who are allowed to look like slobs

R4 In case you don't know, fashion magazine targets beautiful attractive woman, as many fashion brands create their products specifically for skinny woman. Fashion brand do not prefer to make plus size clothing because the cost is too high. The cloths of a plus size dress could be enough for three normal size dress. So skinny woman, come on in. Fat frau, take a look then leave please.

r7, you really think the ONLY women who read fashion magazines are skinny and beautiful? You seem dumb

R8 every one can read fashion magazine, but not everyone is their target customer. I can go to Victoria secret if I want to, but nothing is for me. You get my point, my dear?

r9, the women who read fashions magazines usually don't buy high fashion and most couldn't afford it. Reading the magazines is like window shopping. You're not actually going to buy the things you're looking at

Different products benefit from certain angles of their commercials
Average models = Relatability (viewer can relate to the actor's struggle and imagines that the product can help him, too).
Pretty models = Viewers see a version of themselves they aspire to be and the product can help them to become that version.

Because, OP, Woke America keeps telling us to embrace all body types and celebrate our uniqueness and diversity. We are all beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 17, 2020 4:58 AM |
R10 that's exactly what I said. They can read the magazine, but nothing is for them.

These plain, obese actors are thin and beautiful compared to the average hovaround-driving troll.
