Glenn Close is a great example of "Dance 10, Looks 3"

Very talented but her lack of sizzle and va-va-phoar held her back.

If, after her acclaimed Broadway debut in "Barnum", she'd left the theatre and called a doctor for her appointment to buy..

TITS AND ASS!

bought herself a fancy pair

Tightened up that flat derriere.

Umm.. did the nose with it, all that goes with it

TITS AND ASS!

Had those bitty bingo-bongos done

She'd have been Streep and Lange in one!

Fuck you, OP. Go back to watching the Kardashians.

by Anonymousreply 1November 14, 2020 2:20 PM

Op = wtf? Pointless, witless.

Glenn isn't a great beauty, but she has presence. And when all gussied up, she can look lovely. Plus, she's had a better career than Jessica, despite the lack of Oscar hardware.

I thought she was formidably beautiful in Dangerous Liaisons. Something about that period suited her looks - something glacial, architectural, poised, precise.

by Anonymousreply 4November 14, 2020 2:51 PM

"Barnum" was her stage debut. She had been in Richard Rodgers' "Rex" and "The Crucifer of Blood", maybe others. She looked lovely as Charity in "Barnum".

by Anonymousreply 5November 14, 2020 2:56 PM

was "not" her stage debut

by Anonymousreply 6November 14, 2020 2:56 PM

She always came across as slightly insane to me. She was perfectly cast in that movie.

by Anonymousreply 7November 14, 2020 3:00 PM

She's a handsome older woman

by Anonymousreply 8November 14, 2020 4:58 PM

She looked lovely in that remake of “It’s Complicated” a few years ago!

It was a disgrace how they tried to rip off Its Complicated, right down to Meryl's look.

by Anonymousreply 10November 14, 2020 5:54 PM

She was so fucking ugly in The Big Chill.

by Anonymousreply 11November 14, 2020 6:43 PM

She got her little boobies out in "The Big Chill"

by Anonymousreply 12November 14, 2020 8:06 PM

Great actress, much better than Meryl Streep.

by Anonymousreply 13November 15, 2020 2:40 PM

8 time Oscar nominee!

by Anonymousreply 14March 16, 2021 9:33 PM

Soon to be 8 time Oscar loser!

by Anonymousreply 15March 16, 2021 9:34 PM

[quote]Plus, she's had a better career than Jessica, despite the lack of Oscar hardware.

That's so true. I'd never thought of it that way. So if Jessica Lange is the poor man's Meryl Streep I guess that makes Glenn Close the median's Glenn Close.

by Anonymousreply 16March 16, 2021 9:40 PM

I saw her in Rex. I thought it was a man impersonating a woman, because of the name, and because of how she looked (made up as Elizabeth I, I think). I was only a kid, maybe that's why I was confused. Would never have predicted big stardom.

by Anonymousreply 17March 16, 2021 9:41 PM

Maxie!

by Anonymousreply 18March 16, 2021 9:41 PM

Sara Rue grew up in NY and her dad was the stage manager for "Barnum" and Glenn Close taught her to juggle as a kid.

She'd make a great Phyllis in "Follies", with Kathy Bates as Sally.

by Anonymousreply 20March 16, 2021 9:45 PM

Young G was the textbook definition of "handsome woman." I'm with R2. Lay off the booze, OP.

by Anonymousreply 21March 16, 2021 10:10 PM

Life turned into an endless medley of "Gee it had to be you!"

by Anonymousreply 22March 16, 2021 10:15 PM

R22 lol

by Anonymousreply 23March 16, 2021 10:36 PM

I really liked her in the movie Glengarry, Glenn Close

by Anonymousreply 24March 16, 2021 10:40 PM

She was awesome as sociopathic psycho bitch Patty Hewes in Damages.

by Anonymousreply 25March 16, 2021 10:42 PM

I love Glenn but she isn't better than Streep r13, she just isn't.

by Anonymousreply 26March 16, 2021 10:47 PM

What a wise and thoughtful comment, OP. I've often said the same about Shirley Booth and Irene Ryan, actually.

by Anonymousreply 27March 16, 2021 10:50 PM

Like a rhinestone cowbitch!

by Anonymousreply 28March 16, 2021 10:53 PM

Her performance in Fatal Attraction alone will live on for many generations to come. She should have an Oscar for that and it's criminal that she doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 29March 16, 2021 10:57 PM

"Her looks....held her back". Trying to imagine someone her stature, who has worked consistently among endless options and choices as to which roles to take FOR FORTY YEARS, sitting around thinking "why wasn't i bigger?"

by Anonymousreply 30March 16, 2021 11:00 PM

I always liked her in the first thing I saw with her in it on the big screen, "Garp." I think that if they ever did a film version of the late Cloris Leachman's "Phyllis" character for some random reason, it'd be great to cast her in it.

by Anonymousreply 31March 16, 2021 11:36 PM

She is in a new movie playing Mila Kunis’ Meemaw.
