Tasteful Friends - a restored 1800s house in Morrison county NJ

I've been in this house on a home tour and I have to say it is lovely but maybe a bit pedestrian in the uodates. I'm curious what you all think about it.

[Quote]a restored 1800s house in Morrison county NJ

I'd be cautious as there is no Morrison county in NJ.

by Anonymousreply 1November 10, 2020 2:54 PM

I think it's quite nice. The interiors are a bit uninspired but nothing completely hideous.

by Anonymousreply 2November 10, 2020 2:55 PM

the chandeliers have to go but otherwise nice

by Anonymousreply 3November 10, 2020 2:56 PM

I really like the big porch. I can imagine sitting outside having cocktails in the late afternoons.

Very Restoration Hardware,

by Anonymousreply 5November 10, 2020 2:59 PM

Lol, Morris county. There are other more interesting houses in the price range too, I'll look them up. -OP

I prefer this 1911 beauty. It has more character and even has a three bedroom guest house on the property. It's absolutely lovely to look at, much more majestic than the other one. It's like something from The Great Gatsby from the front.

Not bad. It's an 11 minute drive from where I live. I know it's already been pointed out (twice) but I need to indulge my daily dose of bitchiness: "you meant MORRIS county, don't you?"

by Anonymousreply 8November 10, 2020 3:08 PM

Way too white (what's new?) and boring inside, but those are things that are easy to fix. Other than that, love it!

by Anonymousreply 9November 10, 2020 3:12 PM

Lol, yes R8. It autocorrected and I didn't check before posting. I live here so I'm oh dearing myself.

by Anonymousreply 10November 10, 2020 3:13 PM

R13 I came here to say this. The chandeliers tacky as hell, and have no place in that home. But I like the property otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 11November 10, 2020 3:16 PM

Right R9? That kitchen could be in any new house on the market, so boring. You can buy vintage coloured tiles even at Home Depot, so it wouldn't have taken much to just add a bit of character. -OP

R3 I came here to say this. The chandeliers are tacky as hell, and have no place in this home. Otherwise, I like the property.

by Anonymousreply 13November 10, 2020 3:17 PM

I don't like the facade. The small porthole window centered in that expanse of white siding looks out of proportion. It makes it look like someone is spying on you from inside. The other windows look too widely spaced for my liking.

by Anonymousreply 14November 10, 2020 3:21 PM

They pretty much got rid of the original charm of the place (I assume there was some originally) and added back a sort of blasé Pottery Barn feel to the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 15November 10, 2020 3:22 PM

R14 I agree. There's something unbalanced about the facade. I wonder what changes have been made to it over the years. The interior has great bones. I'd completely re-do it though, they've sucked all the character out of the house with their banal design choices.

I like the Sukkot porch on the first one. It looks, however, as if they reconstructed the front to imitate the latest, greatest McMansion innovations. I like the second house r7 a lot more.

by Anonymousreply 17November 10, 2020 3:40 PM

R17 as of yesterday o’clock I actually know what a Sukkot porch is, and not even 24 hours later I see it used in a full sentence!

by Anonymousreply 18November 10, 2020 4:13 PM

I like it. Very comfortable. Looks like a double lot, but they haven’t done anything with the extra land. Pool?

by Anonymousreply 19November 10, 2020 4:22 PM

It looks like Joanna Gaines decorated it, so no. I like R7's house better.

by Anonymousreply 20November 10, 2020 4:24 PM

Did they run out of white paint when it came to those two grey bedrooms?

by Anonymousreply 21November 10, 2020 5:02 PM

Some of these old New Jersey suburbs are gorgeous, not at all what you would expect by what you see along the Hudson. Many of these really old houses were summer homes of wealthy New Yorkers who were trying to get away from New York's "bad air" which may explain some of the odd configurations and facades

by Anonymousreply 22November 10, 2020 5:11 PM

They slapped on some ODD windows. Why? It's a pleasant middle class home that now it seems only the upper middle class could afford.

by Anonymousreply 23November 10, 2020 5:22 PM

I posted R7 too R20. There's another house on that same street for sale too I believe, I'll look it up. Fairmount Avenue has some beautiful architecture, it's like stepping back in time.

Here's the other one on Fairmount ave, it was built in 1898.

I can't believe they left the ugly cords on that computer R25. Nice house though.
