Inspired by a comment in another thread that all actress have played whores, I thought it would be a good topic for a thread and wanted to add in actors as well. Oh course the defining roles for me were the indomitable Eve Plum in Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway and Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn with the ethereal Lehigh McCloskey. Closely followed by Mare Winningham in Off the Minnesota Strip, I fell in love with her then and there and still believe she’s one of the most underrated actresses of the four last decades. They they were all supposed to be cautionary tales and full of tragedy, but they just made it all seem glamorous and running away to the city was what I wanted to do, even if it was to be a whore. And moviewise you have Gere in American Gigolo and Fonda in Klute, two career defining roles. What are the most memorable roles and actors/actress who have whored it up on screen for you?

Shirley MacLaine -- at one point, it seemed all she ever played were prostitutes, especially in the 1960s with Irma La Douce probably the most famous.

R107 I was just succinctly trying to point out that in the over all story arc of the movie the character is not a whore, but in the briefly presented parallel world of if George Bailey had never existed she is one and it’s just a glimpse of a scene. It was also during the Hays Code, so it is veiled, yet very clear that she is a prostitute. I remember this being the most shocking of all elements of George not existing, more then Mary being an old maid librarian or Mr. Gower the town drunk. It hit the hardest even though she is such a minor character, but it has a huge impact.

I think they might have had her be a bar maid for the movie, but wasn't Ingrid Bergman's character supposed to be a prostitute in the book.
I know the legend has that Bergman was cast as the good finance and Turner was the bad girl and she asked to switch parts, but it is hard to imagine Turner at that time pulling off the more emotional scenes Bergman had.
Bergman's character in Notorious was basically prostituted out by US Government.

Don't forget "Nuts" in which she plays a prostitute that is irresistible to men, despite looking like a bag of shit. Here she is talking about being a hooker than men can't get enough of:
Why don't we stop all the bullshit and get to the point? Now, you want to know what I do for a living? Ask me. My time is very expensive, Mr. MacMillan. Probably more than yours. I get 500 dollars an hour. How much do you get? I get four-hundred dollars for a straight lay, three-hundred for a hand job, and five-hundred for head. If you want to wear my panties, that's another hundred. You take them home, Mr. MacMillan, that's another hundred. No whips, no ropes, no spikes. I've got liquor and grass. Anything else, you bring your own. It works like this: You call me up, we make a date. I look you over, and IF I like you, we make a deal. And, darling, I am worth the trouble. Take my word for it, if you want the best.
Do you want the best, Mr. MacMillan? I am talking about taking your body to heaven and sending your mind south. I'm talking about spoiling you so bad you'll hate every other woman you touch. I'm talking about my mouth on your mouth, and my tongue anywhere you want it. I'm talking about indulging your every fantasy, and then giving you those fantasies one by one. Just for you. All for you. Nobody but you. You get all that, darling? Would you like that, baby? You get what I'm telling you?

Nuts is a long-lost film. Never on cable TV / old movie channels, not streamable, the DVD is way out of print, etc. Why????

R154 update: I see that Nuts is now on Amazon Prime (for $1.99) and the DVD is (now) selling for only about $10. Should I watch it?

Probably distant heirs arguing over the rights without realizing it's been years since anyone cared.

"Should I watch it?"
If you want to watch a really bad film, by all means watch it. Because it REALLY is bad.

Barbra Streisand used NUTS as Oscar bait, but no one bit. She probably doesn’t want people to see it.

The idea of Jenny Lee as a hooker is funny to me since she can barely get her mouth open to speak.
