Why were all the men who lived in the Melrose Place complex hot as fuck?

Seriously? Not one fugly man ever lived there? Not one fatty? Not even a fatty with a handsome face? All fit, tight, young hotties.

Oh, and all the men were white! Of course. Not one beautiful man of color ever was allowed to live there.

I would have been such a whore if I were a woman and lived there.

Who was the manager who picked who lived there? A DLer?

Wow - the first season credits really do have the vibe of 90210 crossed with St. Elmo's Fire. I wonder how cringe-worthy the Kelly-Jake scenes are now. I can't remember if they were actually on 90210 or if she appeared in the first episode of Melrose Place.

by Anonymousreply 1November 6, 2020 10:32 PM

R1 they’re on the first 4 episodes of Melrose Place, and very cringe.

by Anonymousreply 2November 6, 2020 10:33 PM

It wasn' t a documentary, you know.

by Anonymousreply 3November 6, 2020 10:38 PM

Andrew Shue was a dog.

by Anonymousreply 4November 6, 2020 10:40 PM

R4 no. He wasn’t. He was very cute.

by Anonymousreply 5November 6, 2020 10:41 PM

If you ever lived in LA that area of Melrose is right next door to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. So it ground zero for young aspiring actors and models. Most waiters there are very good looking. Rare to see a fatty or frau unless you are talking about Jewish deli like Canters or some old school dive.

by Anonymousreply 7November 6, 2020 11:03 PM

I wanna get fucked by every guy in that opening credits

by Anonymousreply 8November 6, 2020 11:29 PM

Those guys are now probably 50 something R8.

by Anonymousreply 9November 6, 2020 11:33 PM

The original Billy was a fatty.

by Anonymousreply 10November 7, 2020 1:25 AM

Who was the original Billy?

by Anonymousreply 11November 7, 2020 1:34 AM

Stephen Fanning

by Anonymousreply 12November 7, 2020 1:37 AM

Beautiful young men. Short , little dwarves but ooohh so pretty. Andrew Who played Billy was my favorite. I wore my dick out jacking off to this show.

by Anonymousreply 13November 7, 2020 2:16 AM

R13 Shue. Andrew Shue

by Anonymousreply 14November 7, 2020 2:24 AM

The network would only allow a Black woman because interracial romance was still a salacious storyline in the mid-90s. And no way would they have hired a Black man to date a white woman! The execs at Fox only liked Black men if they were funny. Plus if they had a Black man and a Black woman they would have had to end up together (again, on 90s tv) and for a soap where's the fun in that?

by Anonymousreply 15November 7, 2020 2:25 AM

The black actress left after the first season because they weren’t giving her much to do.

by Anonymousreply 16November 7, 2020 2:29 AM

I wanted Grant deep inside me

by Anonymousreply 17November 7, 2020 6:15 AM

R16, it was also a misrepresentation of LA residents.

by Anonymousreply 18November 7, 2020 1:15 PM

R18 LA was not all white. Actually it’s majority Mexicans since forever, and a black woman living in that area isn’t a misrepresentation.

Now if it were 90% black, that’s a misrepresentation

by Anonymousreply 19November 7, 2020 1:18 PM

Michael and Jane were the building managers when the show started so they must have had a hand in deciding whom would get a lease.

by Anonymousreply 20November 7, 2020 2:05 PM

And Amanda later?

by Anonymousreply 21November 7, 2020 2:18 PM

You completely missed my joke R19.

by Anonymousreply 22November 7, 2020 4:00 PM

I would let all of these men fuck my brains out

by Anonymousreply 23November 7, 2020 8:34 PM

There is and always has been more hot guys in the neighborhood than woman for some reason. Not saying the woman are ugly, some are model as well, just not the center of attention of hot looks going on there. If you are gay it's paradise.

by Anonymousreply 24November 7, 2020 9:19 PM

Dr Mancini was so hot!

by Anonymousreply 25November 7, 2020 9:26 PM

R25, you’re right but during the show’s run, Michael was always considered the ugly one, the old one, the forgotten one. But looking at the opening credits now he actually looks really young and hotter than the rest. Grant Show looks really old and weird in the credits.

by Anonymousreply 26November 7, 2020 10:25 PM

He wasn’t considered ugly by any means. None were ugly or treated as such. He was just the most safe, plain and boring one, as well as the oldest.

The way he carried himself played into that.

by Anonymousreply 27November 7, 2020 10:29 PM

[quote] Those guys are now probably 50 something [R8].

by Anonymousreply 29November 8, 2020 12:11 AM

Many gorgeous white men don’t age that well unless very wealthy. But even then it’s because they get touch ups. At least he’s natural.

by Anonymousreply 32November 8, 2020 12:20 AM

Grant was another one of those guys who is definitely handsome but doesn't have any sex appeal - kind of like Trevor Donovan

by Anonymousreply 33November 8, 2020 12:21 AM

R33 which is why he didn’t work as Jake, who we were supposed to believe exuded natural sexuality etc.

Dressing him up like he’s a rebel James Dean wannabe doesn’t make one ooze sex appeal. That’s natural. He was miscast.

by Anonymousreply 37November 8, 2020 12:34 AM

R36 he was hot and married to Jane in real life.

by Anonymousreply 38November 8, 2020 1:12 AM

R37 I mentioned this on another thread but people said no way. He literally quit acting and became a Born Again Christian. He’s not some over the top strict one like Kirk Cameron. He’s very laid back and seems more open minded type Christian.

He also outed his costar.

by Anonymousreply 39November 8, 2020 1:32 AM

He outed Grant Show?

by Anonymousreply 40November 8, 2020 1:36 AM

Grant Show is gay?

No, he outed Savant, who was still married with kids while closeted. Shue outed him to a magazine, which caused Savant’s wife to leave him.

by Anonymousreply 41November 8, 2020 1:37 AM

Felicity Huffman left him?

by Anonymousreply 42November 8, 2020 1:39 AM

“Doug Savant avoided discussing his sexual orientation with journalists during the broadcast of "Melrose Place" when he was married and had children. It was his costar Andrew Shue who outed him to People Magazine. "But some people just assume I'm gay. I'm willing to accept either label", he says to The Advocate in Decembre 1994.”

by Anonymousreply 43November 8, 2020 1:40 AM

yeah, what a mess. He ended up with Laura Leighton, who played Sidney Andrews

by Anonymousreply 46November 8, 2020 1:44 AM

Don't ever remember that black girl being in it. Boy, they dropped her quick. But it made it more realistic: contrary to PC fantasy, there's always been very little diversity in real life friendship groups.

by Anonymousreply 47November 8, 2020 1:51 AM

R47 not for all of us. And you must have not watched the show. It’s not about a group of friends.

by Anonymousreply 48November 8, 2020 1:53 AM

In the opening credits they are all walking on the street with their arms around each other laughing like a big friend group. When did that ever happen on the show? Did they ever hang out like that?

All the time. But with necessary conflict.

Rewatching this now on Hulu and I can't believe how long the seasons are. The first one has 32 episodes and I think four and five have 34!

by Anonymousreply 66November 8, 2020 1:25 PM

That's why they jumped the shark so quickly.

by Anonymousreply 67November 8, 2020 1:41 PM

The first season of MP was really one and a half. The series started in the Summer of 1992.

When it was proven to be a hit, it came back in Fall 1992 for a full season, but those Summer 1992 episodes are considered the same season as the Fall 1992-Spring 1993 season.

by Anonymousreply 68November 8, 2020 1:52 PM

Life was so much more simple then. Our days were filled with the simple pleasures of pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust. gluttony, sloth and the occasional revenge fuck. You can bet no one living at Melrose Place even knew if we had a President. They did know that Billy was sleeping with Cassandra but involved with Kelly who's father is the dry cleaning king of southern California.

by Anonymousreply 69November 8, 2020 1:53 PM

R67 really? The show was better in its mid-later seasons. It was the final season that sucked.

by Anonymousreply 70November 8, 2020 3:08 PM

Why is someone of color being cast always labeled “tokenism” by the ignorant? Sorry to bust your bubble, but ONE black person living in that area during the 90s surrounded by almost all white makes it more believable than making it 100% white.

by Anonymousreply 71November 8, 2020 3:10 PM

They were best friends in the beginning but contrary to popular belief, Melrose still had a lot of friendships in the other seasons, dysfunctional for sure but, you just can't have people hating and plotting against each other without rhyme or reason

I thought the Jo/Matt friendship was really sweet and nobody talks it up, I also kind of like how Sydney always relied on Matt and called on him to help her out of her constant jams

Amanda/Alison frenemy situation was th best though, one episode Alison wants Amanda as her bridesmaid, the next Amanda is threatening to mak her life a living hell, then they hang out outside of work, then Amanda tries to get Alison out at D&D, then Amanda feels bad for Alison after she breaks up with Jake and moved out, so Amanda and offers her a free room and board at her place

by Anonymousreply 72November 8, 2020 10:19 PM

In later seasons Lexi and Amanda had a never ending rivalry, but I always felt they were friends lowkey

by Anonymousreply 73November 8, 2020 10:21 PM

Why did Thomas Calabro refuse to do the Entertainment Weekly MP reunion a few years back?

He still looked gorgeous. Was he feuding with someone?

by Anonymousreply 74November 8, 2020 10:23 PM

R73 yes

And that's why the Amanda/Alison rivalry never felt beyond superficial, because they would ALWAYS be friendly again , you knew that they weren't REALLY gonna try to kill each or or REALLY try to make each other's life a nightmare. It was more a Mean Girls/high school type of friendship

In fact these "frenemies" (Amanda and Alison) hung out more outside of work than I do with my best friends

by Anonymousreply 75November 8, 2020 10:26 PM

Amanda escaped death so many times

by Anonymousreply 76November 8, 2020 10:38 PM

Matt got one kiss at someone's bachelor party or something and the guy was a DOG. They couldn't hire a Grant Show-type to kiss Matt.

B/c then audiences would think wait a gay guy can be hot?

by Anonymousreply 77November 8, 2020 10:41 PM

That opening music was great; it got me psyched at the beginning of each show. Looking back, the plot turns were pretty outrageous but fun. I loved that show.

by Anonymousreply 78November 8, 2020 10:44 PM

R76 yup but not as much as Kelly taylor on 90210

Jeez she had a hard life

Diet pill addiction, burned and nearly died in a sorority fire and scarred, cult member, coke head, kidnapped at gum point by her crazy roommate/look a like who plots to kill her with carbon monoxide poisoning, shot and in a coma and needs a blood transfusion after she wakes up from her coma she has amnesia, raped twice, kills her rapist and is arrested for his murder...

by Anonymousreply 79November 8, 2020 10:50 PM

Kelly should have never been made the lead. She worked beautifully as the bitchy spoiled but troubled hot Supporting character more than as the shows lead.

by Anonymousreply 80November 8, 2020 10:53 PM

The evil bisexual who set Matt up as his wife's killer was scorching hot!

by Anonymousreply 83November 8, 2020 11:11 PM

It’s on Hulu.

So is 90210 but that one is missing like 60 episodes

by Anonymousreply 84November 8, 2020 11:12 PM

We just had a thread on the Melrose Place men the other day. Would anyone have been interested in the show if they cast a bunch of uggos?

by Anonymousreply 85November 8, 2020 11:42 PM

R70, I disagree. It started to drop off midway through season 3 when Darren Starr left. By that point practically everyone had been paired up with every other possibility in the complex and the storylines started to suck. The original cast started to leave and every new character they brought it was either a complete psycho or not interesting like Megan and Brooke.

by Anonymousreply 86November 9, 2020 12:28 AM

I disagree. Lisa Rinna was great on this show. She was over the top in a fun way and never ever boring on screen, unlike some others (sorry, but Amanda was overrated).

by Anonymousreply 87November 9, 2020 12:29 AM

My favorite storyline was when Billy and Sam began to both have affairs. That was such a fun season. I think that was season 6 or 7. It was Andrew Shue, Alyssa Milano and Brooke Langton’s final season.

Billy and Sam are married and Billy begins an affair with Jennifer (Alyssa Milano) who is Sams best friend (and Michael’s sister), meanwhile Sam is having an affair with her employer played by Dan Gauthier. Eventually it’s all exposed and hell breaks lose.

I think that was Lisa Rinna’s final season also, as well as one of my favs Linden Ashby.

by Anonymousreply 88November 9, 2020 12:35 AM

Yes. It was season 6. And it’s pretty over the top but such a fun season. My favorite to watch and while rewatching episodes, it’s a blast. Season 1 was pretty boring.

Jack Wagner was shit on this show. I agree.

Yes, i found the over the top campy fight scene between the love quadruple on season 6. Such a fun season. Lol. Dan Gauthier was beautiful!

There was nothing memorable from the later seasons. Kimberly's wig, Sydney & Jane's dress fight, Alison's tablecloth trick, Jo shooting Reed, the pervy handyman, Sydney hooking and stripping, a hot and bothered Amanda turning on her air conditioner to cool off after throwing Jake out. THAT'S what people think of when they think of Melorse Place. Not that grouper trying to fuck Jack Wagner.

by Anonymousreply 92November 9, 2020 1:20 AM

There were only three things people remembered, and which were worth remembering: 1. Kimberly pulling off her wig in the bathroom to reveal the half moon scar 2. Andrew Shue standing round like a human mushroom in his tiny shorts, with his stick-a-cock-in-it limp mouth, waiting to be fucked into the earth; and 3, Heather Locklear doing what Heather Locklear did best: playing a total bitch with perfect hair.

by Anonymousreply 93November 9, 2020 3:31 AM

Linden Ashby’s character was so over the top toward the end of his time there. He did great with what ridiculous material they gave him.

by Anonymousreply 97November 9, 2020 7:17 AM

I'm not Gen X but watched this show on reruns on SoapNet and found it addicting. I agree it was lacking in diversity but I always chalked it up to the fact LA is very very segregated even more so than NYC.

by Anonymousreply 98February 2, 2021 1:40 PM

Chinese are traditionally Buddhist with a Confucian philosophy and ancestor worship but I figure Chinese Americans convert to Christianity.

Almost every Japanese person I have met isn't religious and most would say they are atheist though they participate in traditional rituals.

Koreans are the most likely to be Christian but many are Buddhist and atheist.

LOVED LOVED LOVED Thomas Calabro. Would watch every week hoping he'd have a scene shirtless so I could see those lovely whisps of hair around his nipples.

I would totally have gone door to door and fucked all the men from Melrose. Grant Show, Doug Savant, Andrew Shue, and definitely Tommy Calabro. Maybe Calabro wasn't the hottest man (but was very handsome) but just the way he played Michael, he was so fucking hot. He had that swagger, confidence, arrogance, and the right amount of charm and naughtiness. You know Michael Mancini would have given you the fuck of a century. I always thought it was cool of Savant be cool about playing a gay guy; he last a few months ago I was delivering pizzas and now the whole world wants me to weigh in on ever gay issue.

met him years later during Housewives; he's an engaging sweetheart; nothing schmoozy, just really friendly.

[quote] We, too, pride ourselves on nonpartisan work, as well as our Executive Director, Katie Fahey. Frank Luntz is a strong Republican. by Anonymousreply 124February 13, 2021 5:13 AM

Calabro has aged well, but he wears a hair piece and has for years.

I never understood why they got rid of Amy Locane. The excuse at the time was they couldn't figure out storylines for her character, which didn't really make sense. Wikipedia now says she was fired due to a drinking problem, which is more plausible, but sounds like something someone just made up based on her recent problems.

by Anonymousreply 129February 13, 2021 7:20 AM

R127 i never saw it. And i guess no one else did since it only got one season. Jessica is the only pretty one imo.

Yeah, R125, I remember reading they didn't want to have to constantly address her acting pursuits. Um, okay, then don't make her a wannabe actress from the get-go. Problem solved. I loved how her southern accent would come and go and her femme fatale to normal demeanor would too.

by Anonymousreply 131February 13, 2021 12:38 PM

At least she got a proper send off episode!

by Anonymousreply 132February 13, 2021 12:39 PM

Amy Locane didn’t fit the revamping of the show they were doing. They didn’t feel her character fit in with the new, more soap opera angle they were going in. Also, she had issues.

Vanessa E. Williams was because they truly didn’t know what to do with her or how to develop a black character. True story.

R133 I don't know, they had another Black actress, Anne Marie Johnson, as a kind of villainess lawyer in season 4, they killed her off, but they wrote as if they would write a white bitch villainess on the show

I appreciated that

She came between Amanda and Peter and had blackmail on Peter, and she used that blackmail to bed him.... repeatedly

by Anonymousreply 134February 14, 2021 12:23 AM

R134 maybe they had some new writers then. Or because she was a recurring guest vs a main character.

by Anonymousreply 135February 14, 2021 12:30 AM

Jasmine Guy was also on the show for a little while, R134, and I believe she bedded Peter, as well.

by Anonymousreply 136February 14, 2021 1:40 AM

It was only 2 episodes, but yes, she did bed Peter. I wish she stayed around longer. Caitlin was a good match for Amanda.

in today's world they wouldn't have dared to have fired Vanessa L. (I think it's L) Williams.

by Anonymousreply 138February 15, 2021 7:14 PM

Doug Savant has a HUGE uncut schlong and he loves to show it off!

Um you didn't ever drive down Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills did you?

They had an exceptional breeder down in the basement furnace room.

I disagree. Amy Locane is perfect for the soapier Melrose. Wish they kept her on. She could have made a great schemer. Sandy was ill Defined but all the characters too major turns. Like Michael, drunk Alison, and crazy Kimberly.

Matt should have been given more to do. Why couldn’t he have seduced Michael?

Felt bad for the bland doormat characters like Matt and Jane they always came across as dumb pushovers!!!

by Anonymousreply 142March 10, 2021 4:20 AM

Took major turns!

by Anonymousreply 143March 10, 2021 4:21 AM

R142 exactly, Amy Locane was the only one of the original female 4 he could be bitchy in those early episodes

I remember when Kelly from 90210 would constantly come around to the apartments or Shooters to stalk Jake and Sandy would call her Chloe just to piss Kelly off and Kelly would correct her and Sandy would say, "yeah, like it really matters anyway"

Another fun Sandy line to Kelly, "You're still in HIGH SCHOOL?"...

by Anonymousreply 144March 10, 2021 7:34 AM

I watched this show at the height of its popularity for about 5 mins.

by Anonymousreply 145March 10, 2021 9:03 AM

They should've brought Sandy back when all the originals started leaving. But instead we got stuck with that grouper face.

Racism in the years 1992-1999 MUST BE STOPPED!

Why do people in the past continue to refuse to be as enlightened as we are?

by Anonymousreply 147March 10, 2021 7:41 PM

R147 Rob Estes who played Kyle is Hispanic, and Daphne Zuniga (Jo) is half Guatemalan

For what it's worth
