Why were all the men who lived in the Melrose Place complex hot as fuck?
Seriously? Not one fugly man ever lived there? Not one fatty? Not even a fatty with a handsome face? All fit, tight, young hotties.
Oh, and all the men were white! Of course. Not one beautiful man of color ever was allowed to live there.
I would have been such a whore if I were a woman and lived there.
Who was the manager who picked who lived there? A DLer?

Wow - the first season credits really do have the vibe of 90210 crossed with St. Elmo's Fire. I wonder how cringe-worthy the Kelly-Jake scenes are now. I can't remember if they were actually on 90210 or if she appeared in the first episode of Melrose Place.

If you ever lived in LA that area of Melrose is right next door to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. So it ground zero for young aspiring actors and models. Most waiters there are very good looking. Rare to see a fatty or frau unless you are talking about Jewish deli like Canters or some old school dive.

The network would only allow a Black woman because interracial romance was still a salacious storyline in the mid-90s. And no way would they have hired a Black man to date a white woman! The execs at Fox only liked Black men if they were funny. Plus if they had a Black man and a Black woman they would have had to end up together (again, on 90s tv) and for a soap where's the fun in that?

Life was so much more simple then. Our days were filled with the simple pleasures of pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust. gluttony, sloth and the occasional revenge fuck. They were best friends in the beginning but contrary to popular belief, Melrose still had a lot of friendships in the other seasons, dysfunctional for sure but, you just can't have people hating and plotting against each other without rhyme or reason
I thought the Jo/Matt friendship was really sweet and nobody talks it up, I also kind of like how Sydney always relied on Matt and called on him to help her out of her constant jams
Amanda/Alison frenemy situation was th best though, one episode Alison wants Amanda as her bridesmaid, the next Amanda is threatening to mak her life a living hell, then they hang out outside of work, then Amanda tries to get Alison out at D&D, then Amanda feels bad for Alison after she breaks up with Jake and moved out, so Amanda and offers her a free room and board at her place

And that's why the Amanda/Alison rivalry never felt beyond superficial, because they would ALWAYS be friendly again , you knew that they weren't REALLY gonna try to kill each or or REALLY try to make each other's life a nightmare. It was more a Mean Girls/high school type of friendship

R70, I disagree. It started to drop off midway through season 3 when Darren Starr left. By that point practically everyone had been paired up with every other possibility in the complex and the storylines started to suck. My favorite storyline was when Billy and Sam began to both have affairs. That was such a fun season. I think that was season 6 or 7. It was Andrew Shue, Alyssa Milano and Brooke Langton’s final season.
Billy and Sam are married and Billy begins an affair with Jennifer (Alyssa Milano) who is Sams best friend (and Michael’s sister), meanwhile Sam is having an affair with her employer played by Dan Gauthier. Eventually it’s all exposed and hell breaks lose.
I think that was Lisa Rinna’s final season also, as well as one of my favs Linden Ashby.

There was nothing memorable from the later seasons. Kimberly's wig, Sydney & Jane's dress fight, Alison's tablecloth trick, Jo shooting Reed, the pervy handyman, Sydney hooking and stripping, a hot and bothered Amanda turning on her air conditioner to cool off after throwing Jake out. THAT'S what people think of when they think of Melorse Place. Not that grouper trying to fuck Jack Wagner.

R127 i never saw it. And i guess no one else did since it only got one season. Jessica is the only pretty one imo.

Yeah, R125, I remember reading they didn't want to have to constantly address her acting pursuits. Um, okay, then don't make her a wannabe actress from the get-go. Problem solved. I loved how her southern accent would come and go and her femme fatale to normal demeanor would too.

At least she got a proper send off episode!

Amy Locane didn’t fit the revamping of the show they were doing. They didn’t feel her character fit in with the new, more soap opera angle they were going in. Also, she had issues.
Vanessa E. Williams was because they truly didn’t know what to do with her or how to develop a black character. True story.

R133 I don't know, they had another Black actress, Anne Marie Johnson, as a kind of villainess lawyer in season 4, they killed her off, but they wrote as if they would write a white bitch villainess on the show
I appreciated that
She came between Amanda and Peter and had blackmail on Peter, and she used that blackmail to bed him.... repeatedly

R134 maybe they had some new writers then. Or because she was a recurring guest vs a main character.

Jasmine Guy was also on the show for a little while, R134, and I believe she bedded Peter, as well.

It was only 2 episodes, but yes, she did bed Peter. I wish she stayed around longer. Caitlin was a good match for Amanda.

in today's world they wouldn't have dared to have fired Vanessa L. (I think it's L) Williams.

Um you didn't ever drive down Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills did you?

They had an exceptional breeder down in the basement furnace room.

I disagree. Amy Locane is perfect for the soapier Melrose. Wish they kept her on. She could have made a great schemer. Sandy was ill Defined but all the characters too major turns. Like Michael, drunk Alison, and crazy Kimberly.
Matt should have been given more to do. Why couldn’t he have seduced Michael?
Felt bad for the bland doormat characters like Matt and Jane they always came across as dumb pushovers!!!

R142 exactly, Amy Locane was the only one of the original female 4 he could be bitchy in those early episodes
I remember when Kelly from 90210 would constantly come around to the apartments or Shooters to stalk Jake and Sandy would call her Chloe just to piss Kelly off and Kelly would correct her and Sandy would say, "yeah, like it really matters anyway"
Another fun Sandy line to Kelly, "You're still in HIGH SCHOOL?"...

I watched this show at the height of its popularity for about 5 mins.

They should've brought Sandy back when all the originals started leaving. But instead we got stuck with that grouper face.
