Democrats Lose Ground with Latinos in Texas and Florida

The Democrats face challenges to ever making these states Blue or Purple.

Low-IQ's who fell for the cheesy "Biden-as-Socialist" commercials on their TeeVeetitos. Lots of ominous music and grainy, black + white cinematography telling them Joe was going to be mean to them.

Trump must have spent all his money down there and neglected other states. 'bye, Felicia

The former vice president failed to produce the massive big-city margins some Democrats expected. One reason is that Trump surpassed his own 2016 performance in many cities.

By HOLLY OTTERBEIN

11/15/2020 06:50 AM EST

PHILADELPHIA — Democrats were counting on massive big-city margins this year, hoping to avoid a repeat of four years ago when unexpectedly low voter turnout in several key cities helped Donald Trump win the presidency.

But it was suburbia — not large cities — that delivered the over-the-top margins that put Joe Biden in the White House. And in at least a handful of cities in key battleground states this month, Trump actually ran slightly better than in 2016.

Trump improved on his performance in urban areas in part because he did better in mostly white, working-class precincts where he ran strongly four years ago. And in some places, Trump also picked up slightly more votes in neighborhoods with large Latino populations and, to a lesser degree, majority-Black communities.

The results aren’t enough to signal a GOP resurgence in urban America — Biden won overwhelmingly in most big cities. But when paired with Trump expectation-defying performance in predominantly Latino areas in south Texas and Florida, it’s a warning sign for the Democratic Party in the years ahead.

by Anonymousreply 2November 16, 2020 5:17 PM

A lot of Latinos are Evangelicals. Until we dismantle the fucking Evangelical/Republican Extremists nexus we will have problems. Idealistically, I guess we can always hope "good government" and attention will restore them, but then there's the prolife movement. Because honestly, there are significantly fewer abortions under Dems than there are under the Republicans. But once again, Democrats have huge problems telling their story and messaging.

by Anonymousreply 3November 16, 2020 5:28 PM

With Latinos you’re talking about a group of 60 million people from all over Latin America, some of whom are recent immigrants and some of whom have families that have been in the US for 150 years.

Maybe the electoral mistake was in thinking of these people as a voting bloc in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 4November 16, 2020 5:33 PM

Democrats lost ground this year with everyone except white men. Racial minorities, women of all races and LGB all voted in larger numbers for Republicans than in 2016. This swap in demographic appeal is not a good sign for the minorities who do not feel their interests are being prioritized or respected by the Democratic party, which has always has counted on them as their base.

by Anonymousreply 6November 16, 2020 6:17 PM

Stop being so goddamned racist and classist and this problem will solve itself. This problem being YOU.

by Anonymousreply 7November 16, 2020 6:23 PM

Most Hispanic voters are uneducated and speak limited English. They got a $1200 check with Trump’s name on it and that was all it took. One even thought it was money from Trump’s personal bank account. It’s just incredibly sad, the future of America is very bleak. We need major education reform and we need to break up Facebook

by Anonymousreply 8November 16, 2020 6:26 PM

Oh, I see. The project "re-elect Trump" has been replaced with the "identity politics - divide the Democrats" one when it comes to our long-term trolls.

by Anonymousreply 9November 16, 2020 6:26 PM

See: R8 to illustrate my point.

by Anonymousreply 10November 16, 2020 6:33 PM

R9, how is it “trolling” to point out the fact that Latinos broke for Trump? It’s a fact. Pretending it didn’t happen won’t make it less true.

by Anonymousreply 11November 16, 2020 6:33 PM

Yep, a lot Latinos are offended that Liberals view them as a solid bloc. They also find it offensive that liberals presume immigration is a central issue for them. Latinos have distinct identifies that may might prioritize their identity. Some view themselves as evangelical Christians first, others business people.

Here in Canada I've only met about a dozen genuine Latino people and all of them to a one is obsessed with money. One guy has everyone in the family, including his 75 year old mother, working to bring home money which he keeps. He always votes conservative because he's convinced liberals want to steal his money.

You say "Latinos don't have a hive mind we don't think same"

Yet you go on to say Latino voters who voted for Trump are all "Bible thumpers that think rump was genuinely a person of faith".

Actually the Mexican and Puerto Rican business owners I know voted for him because they believed he was more pro business than Biden. Religion had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Latinos and Hispanics don't tolerate people who won't work. They have a strong work ethic and they typically see the Democrats as placating those who don't produce. Most of them came to this country for the classic American Dream and they want to use it to their advantage. I work with several Latino businessman and they've all said this. They proud themselves on their entrepreneurial spirit.

by Anonymousreply 37January 21, 2021 7:51 PM

The idea that they are a racial minority that should take pride in racial uprisings is misguided. Black racial justice issues have no meaning for many Latinos.

by Anonymousreply 38January 21, 2021 8:01 PM

R38 exactly. Black issues have nothing to do with what people in the Hispanic community care about. I have seen a lot more representation for black people on television since last May, but still next to nothing where Latino or even Asians are concerned. It’s as if they do not exist. America has to do better for ALL of its people. Not just pander to the squeaky wheel.

by Anonymousreply 39January 21, 2021 8:07 PM

R34 I shouldn't type and talk on the phone at the same thime.

by Anonymousreply 40January 21, 2021 8:09 PM

R39 But blacks LOOK different, it's all about the visuals. Asian's assimilate fairly well and do extremely well in American society and some Hispanics can pass for white and so that doesn't appeal to Dems. Neither Hispanics or Asians have the guilt thing down like the blacks, they ain't smart but they can make you feel bad for them as they are looting your street. If you think that's harsh to say wait until you hear what Hispanics and Asians think of blacks in America.

by Anonymousreply 41January 21, 2021 8:17 PM

Dems won the Latino vote in Texas. Much about nothing.

I would be more concerned with what the Trans bill is going to do with Asian and Latino Support in the coming 2022 elections. They lose the Latino support in the Southwest and it's all over as Dems rely in the Southwest to win elections.

by Anonymousreply 42January 21, 2021 8:21 PM

R41, stop trying to justify your racism towards Latinos and Asian. You are too transparent.

by Anonymousreply 43January 21, 2021 8:23 PM

Most immigrants, especially Latinos are extremely prejudiced against blacks. Their idea of the “American Dream” is to be white, rich and racist.

by Anonymousreply 46January 21, 2021 9:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 49January 21, 2021 9:39 PM

African Americans have a very distinct history in America. A history Asians and Latinos can't compare to. African Americans literally built America against their will. That history and legacy has to be respected. You can't just shit on a group of people who have historically faught for civil rights, which has benefited Asians and Latinos, but did very little to contribute to.

African Americans sit very prominent althoughout American history. There's nothing this country has that hasn't been touched by the hands of African Americans.

People just seem dead set on shitting on black people in America. And turn a blind eye to the history and a system that has been levied against them from the very beginning.

I advise everyone to read "the case for reparations" in "The Atlantic" that will explain why black America is in the state it's in. This current system is poisonous and Joe Biden isn't going to change it.

by Anonymousreply 50January 21, 2021 10:10 PM

R44 what do you mean, “they look different”? As if Latinos and Asians don’t look different. You’re honestly going to tell me Mario Lopez, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Danny Trejo....etcetera all look white?? Shut the fuck up, you myopic bigot.

by Anonymousreply 52January 21, 2021 10:38 PM

Texas is full of Mexicans who want to be white.

Solution: convince them being democratic is the whitest thing you can do.

Florida is filled with Cubans and Venezuelans who hate socialism.

Solution: White liberals needs to educate themselves on what socialism is. They always brag that socialism is great and they’re examples of it being great are: tiny countries with all white populations.

Socialism may work in liberal tiny countries with white people as the majority but it doesn’t work in big countries with conservative populations. White liberals brag about socialism on their brand new iPhones. They are clueless idiots despite years and years of fancy private schooling.

by Anonymousreply 53January 21, 2021 10:44 PM

Oh good lord, the racism and marginalization of Latinos and Hispanics here is disgusting.

The Democrats better pay attention to what their issues are or they will lose all the gains we've made. All it might take for a swing back is a moderate Rethuglican who doesn't turn off moderates or center lefts.

But it's too early to tell so we should hope that Joe and the new Congress listen to their concerns and respects them.

I thought it was common knowledge that Latinos hate blacks. Especially hard-working Mexicans, they can't stand them.

by Anonymousreply 57January 22, 2021 12:25 AM

I'm married to a Latino from a pretty politically active family. We are liberals without a doubt. We vote for (most) taxes, because that's the cost of living in an advanced society – uplift everybody.

BUT, his family is nuts. The father is Spanish, the mother Mexican. They are in their 60s and immigrated in the late 60s. Their kids are light-skinned, college educated, with kids of their own. And boy are they racist – against Blacks, darker-skinned Mexican immigrants and their offspring, Central Americans, and even most Asians. It reminds me of what a Puerto Rican friend in Florida who told me many years ago, that Cubans feel superior to Puerto Ricans and, especially, Mexicans, basically that they have the mindset that "We got ours, and you're not getting any of it." It boggles my mind. There is room for everybody to succeed in the US.

My best friend is White like me, but her in-laws are Venezuelan. Her husband came to the US in the 1980s as a "Galileo" scholar, a Venezuelan government program to send kids to the US for college. They married, and then his entire family migrated to Florida – the mother, father, four sisters, their families, and his grandmother. They have reproduced, and to a one, they are all hardcore Republicans. Not due to accusations of Democrats being "socialists," rather, it is the same stance as the Cubans I mentioned above: They made it here, and fuck anybody else who wants to come.

None of this explains why Democrats lost a percentage of Latinos in Florida and Texas. I suspect that has more to do with the incumbent effect. Are you better off now than four years ago? Aside from the pandemic, maybe a lot of people thought, yes.

by Anonymousreply 58January 22, 2021 12:41 AM

Democrats don’t have a specific strategy or platform for under privileged Latino folks. It’s all black this, trans that.

They think illegal immigration is the top priority for Latino people and it’s not.

by Anonymousreply 59January 22, 2021 12:43 AM

[quote] Maybe the electoral mistake was in thinking of these people as a voting bloc in the first place

I don't know a single Hispanic person that likes illegal immigrants or cares about other immigrants.

The dems would be very wise to realize that. But every year, it's the same thing, they cater to the immigrants. Most people didn't vote for Biden, they voted against trump. Those are 2 completely different things.

by Anonymousreply 60January 22, 2021 12:45 AM

How interesting that THIS THREAD was bumped immediately after Muriel lifted the Primetime posting, and how quickly the trolls found it and began posting divisive shit on it. Oh well, those 14 days were nice while they lasted.

Chew on this, you fuckers: Biden has nominated 2 Latinos to his cabinet: Alejandro Mayorkas and Xavier Becerra. He has put two Latinos in major positions of power, Julie Chávez Rodriguez and Adrian Saenz. This was as opposed to how many Latinos in Trump's cabinet? Oh yeah. ZERO. ZILCH . NADA.

by Anonymousreply 62January 22, 2021 12:58 AM

r62 that's not really the topic of this thread. I guess you don't know any Latinos. Their class/race biases are even more extreme than those of many whites.

by Anonymousreply 63January 22, 2021 1:02 AM

Let's not even get into what asians think of blacks.

by Anonymousreply 64January 22, 2021 1:06 AM

Just how stupid are you, r63? There is no "topic" to this thread. The TITLE says, "Democrats lose ground with Latinos in Texas and Florida", and trolls like you turned many posts in this thread into diatribes about how Latinos now hate Democrats because Democrats promote positive images of black people and give them opportunities, unlike the past administration. When Latinos see people like THEMSELVES in power in a government, they respond favorably. By the way, I know at least a dozen Latinos quite well, and my sister is married to one, asshat.

Where did you get this totalitarian shit from? Where you born with it? Without robust discussion and debate we are not a free society. Period.

by Anonymousreply 67January 22, 2021 1:21 AM

Numerous people here have made comments saying that "this is how Latino people feel". They don't provide any evidence. That is an opinion, or a belief, and an opinion is not a fact. Robust discussion depends on FACTS, not opinions. Someone screaming all day long that the sun rises in the west, not in the east does not a robust discussion make, because there is no FACT there. "Where you born with it" betrays someone posting whose first language is not English....probably someone raised in a totalitarian state.

Here's the shift between the 2016 Ohio Senate Race (R +20) and the 2020 Presidential Election (R +8). Despite the overall blue shift from 2016, Biden still did much worse in Appalachia and Cleveland's Hispanic precincts. The latter should be particularly concerning for Dems.

by Anonymousreply 72April 8, 2021 2:10 AM

The main reason Democrats want to keep open borders and replaced ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS with UNDOCUMENTED is to convert them into American citizens that vote democratic. I think their strategy backfired.

by Anonymousreply 73April 8, 2021 2:13 AM

Latinos are a heterogeneous group of different peoples. Many Latin people resent being viewed as a monolithic bloc and have values different than the Democratic Party. Many are very conservative evangelicals

by Anonymousreply 74April 8, 2021 11:30 AM

[quote] Many are very conservative evangelicals.

And many more of them are just greedy, stupid or racist cunts who want to be white and be associated with white culture.

Univision had a panel discussion "Are Latinos racist?" and all white panel decided, NO.

Where do these people get their news? Univision should call itself "Zorro News". Telemundo is worse. Their Sunday news shows are pure propaganda, promoting Republican policies with zero criticism while they completely ignore Democratic polices that support the community. There's no Media Matters or MSNBC in Spanish.

Republicans wouldn't even SHOW UP for Univision debates.

Jorge Ramos, who hosts a Sunday news show, was NEVER able to confront Trump or the administration after that first news conference. Univision always sent him "on assignment" whenever there was an indefensible Trump scandal. Or, they'd preempt his show with a soccer game or something.

Trump’s “Go back to Univision” insult didn’t garner the type of outrage among Latinos as a parallel insult what have created if directed at a black journalist. Latinos just aren’t as unified politically or culturally as black Americans.

R76- CA. 2004 I would be changing the channel and woud stumble upon Jorge Ramos presenting the news . I understood little Spanish. But I would leave the station on for a minute of two because I thought he was VERY good looking, SEXY too. His sex appeal has faded , as does for ALL of us after a while.

by Anonymousreply 78April 8, 2021 12:27 PM

Democrats should be concerned that Republicans made huge inroads with Latinos not only in Florida and Texas, but essentially nationwide. Democrats need a counteroffensive to stem the loss

by Anonymousreply 79April 8, 2021 12:28 PM

Not sure why this got bumped, but okay.

After every election, the media latches on to one group to blame for something, and it's never the white male demographic.

UCLA's recent study basically calls this "Latino swing to Republicans and Trump" a lie. Latino votes got us Arizona, we wouldn't have Biden if it weren't for Latino votes.

That's why I don't trust these continuous "Latino shift! Democrats must panic!" articles.

The Democrats and liberals are doing the same thing with the Asian vote - treating them as "white-adjacent" and "white-equivalent" because they're successful (and inadvertently suggesting that success is a white attribute). It was the Asian vote that was crucial to the defeat of Proposition 16, an affirmative action proposal aimed at the states' universities.

I believe the suit against Harvard by an activist Asian group for doing to Asians now what it did to Jews in the first half of the 20th century is still ongoing. If there's been a resolution, I haven't heard of it, yet.

The thing is, Asians are the now the most increasing immigrant group these days (although with Biden opening the border to the entire population of Central America, I suppose that could change again).

The Democrats not only need to look at the lessons re the Latino voters from 2020, but transpose it to the ever-growing numbers of Asian-American voters, who are clustered in some very densely populated areas, including the all-important California.

It's quite amazing how well both parties do at setting groups against each other whilst talking about "healing racial divides".

by Anonymousreply 81April 8, 2021 12:43 PM

Democrats are shitty communicators. We let the enemy define and frame every single issue. Pro-life, Family Values, Small Government, Law and Order, Death Tax, Open Borders, Defund the Police...

Republicans ALL stay on messages - they study the night before to learn the talking points and then they repeat them all day/week/month/year as necessary. FOX and fiends starts the show- McCain repeats them at 11 on the View. So, Repugs get the same message drilled in to their heads in bumper sticker slogans which Dems repeat and defend. No Democrat ever said/supported "Open Borders" yet this is the lie that the left has to defend.

Told you. They're the new Italians.

by Anonymousreply 85April 8, 2021 12:51 PM

R82 - As far as the Open Borders issue goes, don't blame Republicans for the mess that has become America's southern border thanks to Biden's idiocy. Six known Yemeni terrorists on the FBI's No Fly list were caught crossing into the US in the last few months. The Biden administration kept the news as quiet as possible and also recently took down a press release intended to demonstrate that all's well, we're in charge, see, we caught them . . . but two of them were caught well inside the country. Then, the government realised how bad it would look and withdrew the press release.

The border is a complete mess and it IS Biden's fault for inviting everyone in with his "more humane" policies. Any 12 year old could have seen this coming.

It IS virtually an Open Border: they're letting people through and they are melting into the shadows because there just aren't enough facilities to hold 500,000 economic migrants.

Of course, the Democrats and liberal left have managed to silence anyone who thinks their taxes paid to a government to exercise its responsibility to secure borders aren't being used to secure borders.

Until the mid-terms, when those silenced people will speak up - and vote Republican.

The Democrats need to address the border issue with something besides sob stories to justify being unable to stop what will likely turn into a million people from one broad economic group from simply battering their way in and making America look the way migrants in rubber dinghies have made Britain look: helpless and stupid.

It's a matter of time before one or two of those terrorists slip through and doesn't get caught. And Biden's presidency will be over.

by Anonymousreply 86April 8, 2021 12:51 PM

R84 - See? Another lying cunt trying to assert that the situation on the border isn't really a big deal at all - that's why the Biden Administration has limited press access to it all this time. Because it's trying to hide from the citizenry how well everything is doing.

See? Another racist cunt who thinks it's terrific that all those caravans are making their way toward that border.

Of course, if they were all swarming in from Scandinavia or Russia or China, that same lying cunt would be bawling about border security. "Do we really need a million blond Scandis? Or white-adjacent Asians? Or white Eastern Europeans?! What about all those Africans waiting on long visa lists to get in legally?!"

And by the way, Hispanic isn't a race.

by Anonymousreply 87April 8, 2021 12:57 PM

Democrats and liberals suck at messaging because we are not homogeneous like Republicans. The Democratic vote is a mix of different interest groups that often clash. Republicans are essentially a unified party of white Christians and wealthy people, largely in the South, rural areas, and Midwest/Plains. They watch and listen to Rightwing media all day, every day. Of course, they are on message. Liberals are like herding cats. Everyone has their own agenda, and wants to be a free spirit.

R81, plaintiffs appealed to the Supreme Court. Harvard has until May to respond. They'll take the case: it's 6-3 conservative and needs just 4 votes, and Roberts despises affirmative action.

Dems have lost me on affirmative action. It's racist AF.

There is no such thing as "open borders" policy. This is another big lie. Biden has been in charge for less than 3 months and you want to blame the whole thing on him- FOX NEWS 24/7.

Biden's people didn't even have access until 1/15. They were blocked/sabotaged at every possible level by Republicunts.

Under Obama the Senate passed immigration reform, John Boner wouldn't hold a vote he knew he would lose- THE HASTERT RULE

Rep. Iliana Nazi Leighton was chased down the hallway by a reporter who asked why Repugs won't take a vote and she said "we don't like the way Obama ASKED for it". Cunt.

[quote] The wealth of this nation

Link please re the second.

And isn't one reason that the South lost the Civil War because it had little industrial capacity—i.e., the means to add value to raw materials? And how great was the value of raw cotton compared to the manufacturing output of the North?

Cotton is a raw material. It was exported to the mostly free North and to the UK for processing. The overwhelming majority of the value realized came from its processing into textiles and fashioning into apparel.

So during the Civil War, and since 1609 actually, to what was their contribution a significant addition of value? The mind creates things from raw materials to create wealth: what did they create?

by Anonymousreply 96April 8, 2021 2:10 PM

There is no such thing as "open borders" policy.

Depends on what you call "open borders". Right now, if you come with a child, you're out in 72 hours. Your hearing is scheduled 18-24 months down the road, and you're otherwise free to move about the country and work.

Also, the border surge is real insofar as the previous administration effected the "stay in Mexico" policy, where applications of those waiting at the border were being processed extremely slowly. Opening the gates well beyond current capacity—albeit still a managed stream—was like unblocking a dam from a trickle to a steady stream: not a surge in itself, but surely encouraging further flow from Central America.

Sorry, the first line is a quote from above.

by Anonymousreply 98April 8, 2021 2:18 PM

R96 - how about blues + jazz which led to rock and roll. And every house, every factory, every edifice, had laborers, janitors, maids, all the lowly jobs that whites wouldn't do. So they were stuck with the shit jobs, like the untouchables in India. They've contributed plenty - and got enslaved, lynched, intimidated, disallowed the vote, sent to the back of the bus, kept out of restaurants, hotels, opera houses, etc., in return.

by Anonymousreply 99April 8, 2021 2:19 PM

Guess where the immigrants headed our way got the "news" that Biden will welcome them in? Of course, REPUBLICANS. For more than a year now the republicans have been pounding the message loudly and targeting that message to these poor gullible people. Biden and democrats have never told them they'd be welcome and there would be open borders upon their arrival. This is all GOP messaging. Wonder why the GOP keeps pinning this on Biden?

by Anonymousreply 100April 8, 2021 2:20 PM

[quote] how about blues + jazz which led to rock and roll.

R99, art is created by the talented few: mostly black, yes, but not at all near even a majority of them—perhaps 200 individuals of musical genius.

Your statement plays on the stereotype that "they can all sing and dance". No. Great art comes from great genius, which as a rule isn't a common thing and the achievements of geniuses can't simply be claimed by everyone of a certain race. It's like white people saying "we created the modern world". Just no. Great individuals create great things, and very few are great.

by Anonymousreply 101April 8, 2021 2:23 PM

But the Sun Records guy was looking for a white guy who could sing like a black guy (Elvis). We 'stole' their art form. That's after buying them and shipping them over here in overcrowded ship hulls - enslaving, lynching, well, I said it before. They've been made to do all the shit work since they got here. They're still widely discriminated against, overtly or covertly.

Oh, and they did probably save us from that goddamned Trump. So that's saving the country that they "helped" build - no they didn't build it by themselves. People use poetic license and hyperbole, 'kay? Doesn't make hating black people right.

by Anonymousreply 104April 8, 2021 2:28 PM

[quote] Biden and democrats have never told them they'd be welcome and there would be open borders upon their arrival.

Biden stated at one of the Democratic debates that he would not deport any undocumented immigrant who did not commit a violent felony. And that's after a 100-day moratorium on all deportations. Not 'open borders" but not an insignificant signal.

[quote] Joe Biden committed to halting deportations of nearly all immigrants in the country illegally. The former vice president said Sunday at the Democratic debate that he would place a moratorium on deportations in the first 100 days of his administration and then would only look to deport people convicted of felonies.

I'm not the one who said they did R106. They HELPED build it, with their labor and their art.

by Anonymousreply 107April 8, 2021 2:31 PM

Liberals want to make America more open and welcoming for Latinos. Maybe they’ll change their tune after being ganged up on at the ballot box by the people for whom they have ponied up valuable political capital. Venezuelans and Brazilians hate paying tax and that’s one of the reasons they vote GOP. Liberals should not go out on a limb trying to make it easier for them to stay here.

by Anonymousreply 108April 8, 2021 2:34 PM

R107, yes, but I'm the one who posed the question above to which you've been responding. The statement I hear all the time is "They built this country."

I'm wondering what is meant by that. It sounds like they're some kind of incredible wealth generating aristocracy, and everyone else did nothing.

How was even a majority of the wealth of the nation created by them?

by Anonymousreply 109April 8, 2021 2:35 PM

Or conversely, Texas and Florida are getting better at suppressing the Latin vote.

by Anonymousreply 110April 8, 2021 2:35 PM

[quote] Oh, and they did probably save us from that goddamned Trump

And who will save us from them dropping bombs on us?

by Anonymousreply 111April 8, 2021 2:37 PM

R110, I think the issue is more about how they surveyed—i.e., what they're thinking and where they might be headed.

by Anonymousreply 112April 8, 2021 2:37 PM

[quote] We 'stole' their art form.

R104, first, who is "We"?

Second why is an art form "theirs" and not the creation of a few musical geniuses who happen to have been black?

Every group tries to claim the creations of geniuses, when before the majority of them would have dismissed those individuals' endeavors. Once greatness is realized, suddenly it's the creation of some collective group.

E.g., white people didn't "invent" the light bulb or isolate penicillin: a team of engineers working for Edison created the former, and Alexander Fleming and maybe a few lab assistants achieved the latter.

by Anonymousreply 113April 8, 2021 2:42 PM

A lot of Latinos in Texas and Florida are white and have contempt for brown and black people. They also really hate illegal immigrants. A lot of Tejanos are white Spaniards and have been in Texas back when it was a Spanish territory and many Cubans in Florida descend from the white Cubans who fled during Castro's takeover. Latinos are not one race nor are united.

by Anonymousreply 114April 8, 2021 2:45 PM

Remove the quotes around "invent". Not sure why I put those.

by Anonymousreply 115April 8, 2021 2:48 PM

Let’s split it down the middle and call it a day.

Dems only pandered to Blacks. There are far more Hispanic voters in America than Black voters. If they want their vote then they need to work for it. Immigration isn’t the answer, as the voters they need to court were born and raised here.

by Anonymousreply 125April 8, 2021 10:21 PM

There is no Way Latinos will ever vote in the hyper solid block Blacks do. It’s impossible

by Anonymousreply 126April 8, 2021 10:29 PM

R120 - Actually, conservative voters from places like California are leaving CA in droves and heading for Texas. Texas is the state attracting the most new residents across America. California is the state losing the most people annually. The reasons cited, variously: anti-business environment, high taxes, ridiculous cost of living, and . . . unbearably Woke politicisation. There was an article on this on CNN recently.

No one should assume anything about voting blocs these days. They made the same mistake with white, college-educated women in 2016.

For all it's the butt of coastal intellectual liberal jokes, Texas is America's biggest magnet for new residents. No state income tax, pro-business, much more reasonable cost of living, and a surprising amount of sophistication in places like Dallas, Houston, and Austin in the way of art and music.

It looks an appalliing place to live to this British elder-gay, but then, I'd rather live anywhere but Brighton, as well, in the UK, and Londoners, especially white middle-class Londoners, are leaving the capital and flocking there, too.

by Anonymousreply 127April 11, 2021 11:12 PM

We need a Hillary/AOC ticket. LANDSLIDE! We'll be crushed under Latinos and their fat, merry wives!

by Anonymousreply 128April 11, 2021 11:22 PM

Ironically many Californians are only a few generations removed from states like Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma. Many Californians descend from Southerners and Midwesterners who either came over in the late 1800s for the Gold Rush or fled their states during The Great Depression and Dust Bowl in the early 20th Century. Similarly many African-Americans also left those states for better work opportunities during the Great Migrations of the 20th Century. It just shows how The US is truly a country of vagabonds who will move around whenever it is economically or politically favorable. As opposed to places like Europe where you can find people who have ancestors who've lived in the same region for hundreds of years.

by Anonymousreply 129April 11, 2021 11:31 PM

I’ve known a lot of illegals over the years as my GOP family owns businesses and because the only contractors I can hire are immigrants. There literally aren’t any white contractors here anymore.

All of them admire their employers and want to be just like them. For example, my cousin has had immigrants working in the kitchen of his restaurant for 35 years. He pays in cash & helps them get housing via other businessmen who own houses they rent to immigrants. Over the years the kitchen workers became assistant chefs and chefs and went to work somewhere else when they got married and moved. All of those workers want to be my cousin. They don’t want unions, they don’t want to pay taxes, they look down on people who get welfare and consider them lazy. The immigrants say they came from a foreign country and couldn’t speak English & they worked - why shouldn’t Americans work? Americans were born here, speak the language, are citizens, have free public school education, haven’t got the barriers that illegal immigrants had. There’s no excuse, as far as they’re concerned, for anyone to be on welfare. Someday, they hope to own their own restaurants & pay their employees in cash.

It’s pretty easy to see why they’re Republican.

by Anonymousreply 130April 11, 2021 11:57 PM

Plus, immigrants hear their American Republican bosses spout Fox News talking points for years. They like their bosses and want to be like them, so they’ll be become Fox News watchers themselves in a few years.

by Anonymousreply 131April 12, 2021 12:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 132April 12, 2021 12:15 AM

Again, this thread is so ignorant. Focusing only or immigrants. MostHispanic people in hi county are already third and fourth generation US citizens. Son of y’all are myopic as fuck. These folks don’t care about immigration issues anymore than black voters care about some assholes who moved here from Haiti. They care about things like abortion and the bullshit the GOP pretends to care about like Jesus as religion. Not to mention the Republicunts always use scary words like socialism to brainwash those who actually have immigrated into thinking we are turning into Cuba or Columbia.

Democrats, especially the left ones, need to understand and internalize that people vote with their wallet first. It's nice to ask for improving voting rights, womens rights and gay rights. But if you don't improve your constituency's financial situation first, you're not earning the vote. It really IS the economy, stupid.
