Stop blaming all Latinos for the fucking Cubans always voting Republican
They vote Republican every election, yet you all didn’t notice until this time.
But I am tired of ALL Latinos getting blamed for what the Cubans (and apparently Venezuelans) did. While Cubans almost always vote Red, we had the Puerto Ricans voting in droves for Biden and canceling out the Cubans votes as much as possible.
Mexicans mostly voted Biden. Dominicans mostly voted Biden.
Cubans are the worst, and hate gays, blacks, and even other Latinos. They look down on them.

I'm gonna say it one more time:
Next time you try to blame Latinos over the Florida fiasco: even if Miami-Dade Latinos had delivered Hillary-level numbers, Joe would have still lost the state. College-educated whites and seniors (who were supposed to deliver the victory) ALL underperformed at ~38% vs Hillary's ~41%.
All Joe's campaign had to do was enlist Hillary strategists and Chuck Rocha (you may not like Bernie, but Rocha delivered HUGE numbers). Who did they hire instead as one of their key Florida strategists? Ana Navarro, a freaking Never Trumper Republican.

There's a lot of push back in social media today against the ignorant essentialism about Latinos in the US. "Blaming" Latinos generically for the Cuban support of Trump in FL. The diversity of Latinos in the US isn't well understood.
Having said that - Mexican Americans in South Texas didn't help as much as hoped there. And more importantly, no matter what your heritage, there is no fucking excuse for voting for a dictator who lies incessantly.

Exactly. It doesn't matter what you are. This isn't Mitt Romney who is just your typical, greedy Republican. Trump is an ignorant, corrupt, Nazi/Fascist (yeah, he's both) fool who should never have been allowed anywhere near power. Our country is a disgrace even if Biden wins.

It's rarely acknowledged, but Latinos in the US are notoriously racist. Unfortunately, they saw Trump as their savior when he started trashing Black Lives Matter.
People act like the increasing Hispanic population will lead to more equality and diversity, but racism will continue unimpeded in America even if Latinos become the #1 minority.
Sad that regardless of the minority group, so many want someone to look down on.

You are missing the most rabid republicans of all: Brazilians.
Many settled in south Florida and brought their families here through chain immigration.
Cubans, Venezuelan and Brazilians which are the most plentiful Latinos in south Florida gave Trump Florida.
Trump did not win big here. Democrats made gains and flipped once republican counties. For all his time and money spent in Florida his return on investment was piss poor.
Democrats need to redouble their efforts in Florida, it’s within striking distance.

Latinos were none too pleased that the AA community annointing Biden, his pledge to pick a women of color and then ditching all the Latinas, and BLM putting Black back in front of Hispanic at priority minority when Latinos are up to a third of CA and FL. At least Hillary put that Spanish-speaking gringo on her ticket and bought local Latino media.
Plus, we have a healthy 2nd generation and even a 3rd that speaks only English: the Italians by the 1960s-70s. Of course they were going to go with Mr Prosperity + Resentment. Plus growing evangelicals. Republicans just had to wait long enough to pick them off.

R1, there's considerably more than 100.
"Cuban Americans are the third largest Hispanic American group in the United States.
Many communities throughout the United States have significant Cuban American populations. Florida (𝟏.𝟓𝟑 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟕) has the highest concentration of Cuban Americans in the U.S., standing out in part because of its proximity to Cuba, followed by California (110,702), New Jersey (99,987), Texas (86,183) and New York (78,478).
South Florida is followed by New York City; Tampa, Florida; Union County and North Hudson, New Jersey areas, particularly Union City, Elizabeth and West New York. With a population of 141,250, the New York metropolitan area's Cuban community is the largest outside Florida. Nearly 70% of all Cuban Americans live in Florida."

I think the real and more appropriate blame for Trump overperforming the polls... more white people supported him than the polls indicated. Want to find a place to lay blame? White voters.

A lot of people from Spanish-speaking countries in the United States either have money, had money, or think they are moneyed because they have a lot of things they didn’t have back in la madre patria. A lot of them are very class conscious, and will do and say just about anything to distance themselves from poor immigrants from Hispanic countries because of the stigma and internalized/societal racism here in the US. Conversations about their childhood or youth usually include something that clarifies that they aren’t one of “them”. This usually includes some reference to former wealth, private education, or a relative from Spain or some other European country. We like to think “Latinos” see themselves in others like those folks Trump put in cages on the border, but many don’t. That’s why they can vote for Trump, because in their minds, they are more like you than them.

This is not news to anyone who bothers watching telenovelas, at least ones from South American countries or whatever.
It's like watching American television from 1950's or 1960's; totally devoid of POC, and or when they are seen you get servants, clowns, buffoons, laborers, etc.. But those in power and or main cast are always white/European often complete with blue eyes/blonde hair.....
Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Portugal, Venezuela, etc... all to some extent have racism that would make even those in deep southern USA states grow pale.
There's a reason why all the models (super or whatever) out of Brazil like Gisele Bundchen all look European.
Cubans in South Florida will welcome people on boats escaping Cuba; but let it be Haitians and they are first ones calling on federal government to send those people back to Hati.
As matter of fact now that many of the Cubans arriving on boats from Cuba are not from the educated, professional intelligensia classes of before, many of the established Cuban migrant community couldn't care less. They got themselves and theirs here, and that is what matters having left Cuba to get away from "those people".

The only issue I have with any of this is out of all minority groups, Trump has been the most vocal and the most in your face about his disdain for brown people. He's been saying nasty things about the Chinese for almost a year, and the whole not really condemning white supremacy is fucked up but Latinos, out of all the others, have really been his focus.
So I don't understand how any Latino could have listened to all the shit he's said for the last 4 years and think, oh yeah... that's my guy. Oh yeah, he says shit about Latinos, but he's not talking about me. I'm different. I'm "the good" Latino... I'm not Mexican... and sometimes I can pass for white.

Again, whatever qualities, cultural characteristics, physical categories, identity patterns you want to discus.... THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE RATIONALE VOTING FOR A WHITE SUPREMACIST, AUTOCRATIC, DISHONEST, CORRUPT, TV PERSONALITY. And white people, particularly white men, and particular white people with little education, is the group with the highest percentage of Trump voters. If you want to assign blame for Trump, guess what?
Yes there is "racism" among Latinos. Yes, people from Spain aren't happy to be considered Latino (and Mexican and Cuban immigrants in Spain - and there are a lot - are not readily accepted as fully equal to native Spaniards). Yes, in countries like Mexico telenovelas are filled with very white actors (though the noble "criada indigena" has a role). Yes, income correlates to skin pigmentation in Mexico City. But AMLO, the Mexican President was elected with the overwhelming support of the darker skinned demographics, The George Washington of Mexico, Benito Juarez, was an Indian. (Zapoteca).
Yes, Cubans who left Castro's Cuba in the 50s and 60s were light-skinned professionals and capitalists (as R44 says).. Yes the boat people and Marielitos that Castro sent to USA in the 80s were largely Afro Cuban. Yes, the "white privileged" Cubans are really happy to be classified with the Afro Cubans.
But R44 and others - light skin European Argentinos (so many there are Italian, German and even English in heritage) consider themselves Latino. Latino, in effect, is the term for anyone from a Spanish-speaking country in North, Central and South Americas. Shakira is very happy to be considered a Latina and win Latin Grammys.
