John Mulaney under Attack for Saying Nothing Will Change Under Biden Administration

"On Nov. 3 there is an elderly man contest," #SNL host John Mulaney said of the upcoming presidential election. "Just rest assured, no matter what happens, nothing will change in the United States."

by Anonymousreply 94December 22, 2020 3:53 AM

Sure. Just like nothing's changed since 2016.

by Anonymousreply 1November 2, 2020 4:41 AM

R1, Nothing has.

by Anonymousreply 2November 2, 2020 4:45 AM

I am so sick of false equivalency.

"There's no difference between a polar bear and a Siamese cat. They're both furry mammals who eat meat and make sounds."

"There's no difference between shit and chocolate cake. Any Trump voter will tell you that much."

"There's no difference between chanterelles and death-caps. They're both mushrooms."

"There's no difference between Lord Elrond and Tinkerbell. They're both drama-queen fairies."

Etc.

by Anonymousreply 3November 2, 2020 4:47 AM

Nothing will change for Mulaney, certainly.

by Anonymousreply 4November 2, 2020 4:52 AM

R3, Neither party give a single fuck about anybody except their wealthy donors and neither one supports universal health care. Both suck.

by Anonymousreply 5November 2, 2020 4:53 AM

It's comedy. Get over it.

He also told people to fill out ALL the dots on their ballots. You're not supposedly to take him seriously.

by Anonymousreply 6November 2, 2020 4:54 AM

R6 = Trump

by Anonymousreply 7November 2, 2020 4:56 AM

[quote]It's comedy. Get over it.

Isn't comedy supposed to be funny?

by Anonymousreply 8November 2, 2020 4:57 AM

in theory; it's not always.

God forbid, Trump wins again, then perhaps Mulaney's words will be of some strange comfort.

I am hoping for a landslide, however.

by Anonymousreply 9November 2, 2020 5:20 AM

I remember, just before the 2016 election, the Washington Post published a piece that told us why, whether Clinton or Trump won, everything would be just hunky-dory, and life would merrily go on, because of separation of powers and other protections built into the Constitution. I remember reading that, whether yet knowing who would win, and thinking, "This is bullshit."

And I was right.

by Anonymousreply 10November 2, 2020 5:23 AM

^^ without yet knowing who would win ^^

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2020 5:25 AM

Is Mulaney a deplorable?

by Anonymousreply 12November 2, 2020 5:48 AM

No John is not a deplorable, he is most likely a Bernie Bro. The nothing will change thing is big among that group because they think republicans and democrats are the same and only Bernie can save us with his so-called revolution.

by Anonymousreply 13November 2, 2020 5:56 AM

Things will change.

But if you believe Joe Biden himself - and you do, don't you guys? like his words matter and are not just mouth flaps? - nothing will *fundamentally* change, particularly for the wealthy. So rest easy there.

Bernie Sanders can't save anything. He's bringing up things he'll do in January. The foreclosures etc are now.

by Anonymousreply 14November 2, 2020 5:58 AM

[quote] It's comedy. Get over it. He also told people to fill out ALL the dots on their ballots. You're not supposedly to take him seriously.

200,000 dead and infection rates higher than the spring and incompetent leadership pushing for the death of millions. What’s funny about SNLs continued both sides are the same bullshit?

by Anonymousreply 15November 2, 2020 6:07 AM

Biden himself has said that nothing will change under him, so you can't complain when other people hold that against him.

I do think certain things will change, for good - at least there won't be a President that incites violence against Muslim Congresswomen and Conservatives judges won't be nominated for the next 4 years. But he said what he said.

by Anonymousreply 16November 2, 2020 6:11 AM

Did Sue Cunt Sarandon write that line for Mulaney?

by Anonymousreply 17November 2, 2020 6:15 AM

Maybe Biden will just be the pallet cleanser undoing Trump setting up for the next president?

by Anonymousreply 18November 2, 2020 6:33 AM

One-party is warmer and fuzzier and the other. But I agree with every post on here, that red or blue, neither side cares about you.

by Anonymousreply 19November 2, 2020 6:42 AM

We are better off under the democratic party, than we are under Republicans.

At least Democrats make sure people are better taken care of at least.

by Anonymousreply 20November 2, 2020 6:44 AM

Yup, he's a BernieBro.

"Only Bernie can save us!"

by Anonymousreply 21November 2, 2020 7:05 AM

[quote] Just like nothing's changed since 2016.

It would be interesting to see people list out changes in laws and regulations that have directly impacted them personally. Obviously, Covid-19 doesn’t count. Between 2016 and 2020, for me, the only thing I can think of at the moment is the tax law change. I receive a smaller refund, but pay slightly less in federal taxes. For all the sound and fury, pretty much everything else is the same.

by Anonymousreply 22November 2, 2020 7:06 AM

he is fuktard, will say/do anything for a laff....creep old cock sucka

by Anonymousreply 23November 2, 2020 7:09 AM

He's funny. I had a big crush on him when he was on Best Week Ever on VH1 back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 24November 2, 2020 7:10 AM

R24 I remember that show, didn't they bring that back once recently and than ended up canceling it again?

by Anonymousreply 25November 2, 2020 7:23 AM

Young, rich, well connected, straight white guy doesn’t care about civil rights for women or gays or people of color nor how many more hundreds of thousands of people will senselessly die from preventable illness or go hungry during an economic collapse. Shocking.

I have an idea: how about we stop giving platforms to guys like Mulaney? I’m ready to muzzle every white (and some Asian guys) who stick their dicks in snatch.

by Anonymousreply 26November 2, 2020 7:47 AM

Tina Fey ran into a similar obliviousness controversy when she did that Weekend Update bit about how women should eat sheet cakes instead of troubling themselves by paying attention to the Charlottesville Nazis.

by Anonymousreply 27November 2, 2020 8:21 AM

He also said:

"But just rest assured, no matter what happens, nothing much will change in the United States. The rich will continue to prosper while the poor languish, families will be upended by mental illness and drug addiction, Jane Lynch will continue to book lots of projects, and when she does she’ll deliver, she’s so good at being on TV."

Some people felt he is trivializing the election.

Some people felt that it's better understood what he's saying in context.

Some people said well he's just a comic and everything he said was hyperbole.

I think it's up to you how you feel about it but it wasn't as clear cut as saying, "Nothing will change under a Biden Administration." I really don't think he's dumb enough to think that "nothing" will change and this is the equivalent of saying, "he's just as bad as Trump."

by Anonymousreply 28November 2, 2020 9:32 AM

It doesn't matter which addled geriatric wins the election on Tuesday. America will continue on its angry, violent, bigoted and racist self-destruction.

by Anonymousreply 29November 2, 2020 9:42 AM

Let's not argue. I'd to tell you about a wonderful place called Africa

sun swept beaches, mountains, the wildlife and more importantly the big, Big Bamboo, the MASSIVE bamboo

So if you yearn for a new beginning, what a better place to start than Africa?

Biden's exact words are "I am transitional president". Whatever that means it certainly does NOT mean that nothinbg is going to change. I expect him to make some big moves since he is not planning to get re-elected.

by Anonymousreply 31November 2, 2020 9:52 AM

Let's cancel him!

Actually Biden is better than Trump but if the hard left overplays its hand there will be a reaction and it will be Cotton or Hawley in four years. Mark my words.

by Anonymousreply 32November 2, 2020 9:52 AM

[quote] Biden's exact words are "I am transitional president". Whatever that means it certainly does NOT mean that nothinbg is going to change.

The article that troll r16 posted is from June 2019. Even then, Biden was only telling a group of wealthy donors that their standard of living would not change, but one can hardly consider a quote from the pre-covid era as evidence that Biden doesn’t plan to change anything about the US of 2020.

by Anonymousreply 33November 2, 2020 10:31 AM

Do t worry r22. The clock is ticking on your tax break. Look for them to skyrocket in 7 years. But it’s ok. The corporate ones are permanent. Read it

And the Covid response certainly does count. I know you would like to pretend that it doesn’t, but let me mention an event we call February. It’s where we did nothing while the virus spread because your hero was in denial and didn’t pay attention until the market tanked.

Fucking douche bag

by Anonymousreply 34November 2, 2020 10:32 AM

"I’m ready to muzzle every white (and some Asian guys) who stick their dicks in snatch."

We agree.

I don't think John is a bad guy and I think his standup is funny, but he fits the stereotypical Bernie Bro MO. White, under 40, comes from a well off family, jaded, and now he wants to save the world the Bernie way. These guys Mulaney, Seth Meyers, Chris Hayes and a host of others mean well, they can just afford to a different world view. Because they're not going to lose either way.

by Anonymousreply 36November 2, 2020 12:15 PM

He's just a whiny BernieBro. All of the people saying he's right are the same: spoiled brats who didn't once think about how Biden wouldn't have handled the pandemic the same way Trump did, because that just doesn't affect them much, and if it doesn't affect them directly, it might as well not even be a thing.

by Anonymousreply 37November 2, 2020 12:22 PM

he a scumbag respected only by fellow scumbag jim fartface carrey.

by Anonymousreply 38November 2, 2020 12:28 PM

Andrew Cuomo was asked by a reporter if the skit offered him during a teleconference yesterday. He claimed not to have seen it.

by Anonymousreply 39November 2, 2020 12:30 PM

^offended

by Anonymousreply 40November 2, 2020 12:30 PM

Pissed me off too.

by Anonymousreply 41November 2, 2020 12:31 PM

This is why he won.

by Anonymousreply 42November 2, 2020 12:33 PM

I'll tell you what changes if Biden wins: the Lincoln Project money and talent is immediately turned against him.

by Anonymousreply 43November 2, 2020 12:34 PM

Nobody turns to Mulaney to get insight about politics. People listen to him talk about his grandma.

by Anonymousreply 44November 2, 2020 12:39 PM

If your an upper middle class person I guess. I have not had any tax benefits and have seen a lot of job losses in my area even pre Covid. We lost about 5,000 manufacturing and customer service jobs. Since Covid we are hovering around 20% unemployment. It’s still a sellers housing market though and Young couples who try to stay here lose out to cash buyers so I can only assume that investors and landlords think times are still great.

by Anonymousreply 45November 2, 2020 12:40 PM

You mean the Lincoln Project that Datalounmeg is so gaga over, R43?

by Anonymousreply 46November 2, 2020 12:42 PM

If Joe wins, it will take a lot of pushing from progressives to get anything useful done. I get that his natural instincts are compromise, and that sort of sanity is a big part of his appeal. But we have a ridiculously top heavy corpocracy and progressives will have to fight tooth and nail to even make a dent there. Certainly we should increase taxes on the rich, increase the minimum wage at least, and hopefully get some kind of basic income started.

by Anonymousreply 47November 2, 2020 12:43 PM

You mean the people on DL who think that Smelly Kelly's husband wouldn't leave them for dead in an alley somewhere? Yes, them.

by Anonymousreply 48November 2, 2020 12:53 PM

And so many of the pathetic ancient elder gays were begging to suck this guys vanilla, bland dick after his boring appearance on snl. This guy is the face of privilege that tries to hide behind being woke, his life will get worse if Biden wins because it could signal the end of the rich getting constant tax cuts so he's probably pissee about that.

by Anonymousreply 49November 2, 2020 12:54 PM

Both sides-ism enables fascism.

by Anonymousreply 50November 2, 2020 12:55 PM

It was a fucking joke. Jesus, fucking get over it.

by Anonymousreply 51November 2, 2020 12:56 PM

I am also very very curious about the future of The Lincoln Project. I do think it’s possible that they will keep fighting for our side *only* because Trumpism isn’t going away overnight. John Mulaney is hilarious!!!!

by Anonymousreply 52November 2, 2020 1:15 PM

I wonder that too r52. They've burned so many bridges, and are having so much fun doing it, that I wonder if they'll just keep going after Trumpistas and various loons on the right as long as they can. I suppose they could turn, but if they do, hope we're ready. There is a rising generation of Democrats that don't seem to accept the Dems always on the defensive rules.

by Anonymousreply 53November 2, 2020 1:18 PM

I hate this fucking smarmy, cynical attitude. People adopt it to see savvy, but it just makes them look ill-informed and adolescent.

by Anonymousreply 54November 2, 2020 1:25 PM

I heard the same crap from my niece Saturday afternoon. "Neither is a great choice," she said.

There's a stark choice. One stands for the rule of law, the other is a slide toward "illiberal democracy."

by Anonymousreply 55November 2, 2020 1:31 PM

[quote]I am hoping for a landslide, however.

Landslides don't happen anymore.

by Anonymousreply 56November 2, 2020 1:43 PM

R43 the Lincoln Project will probably turn its attention to changing, to the extent possible, the post-Trump Republican Party. They could be an organization within that party for more moderate or at least non-racist Republicans to rally.

by Anonymousreply 57November 2, 2020 1:54 PM

I think Lincoln Project will continue be to as asset to us until 2024. If Trump loses they will attempt to rid the party and the 2024 election of the Trump henchmen and candidates who appeal to the Trump base. If Trump loses, in a year of record turnout, it is a resounding message that the Republicans have got to come back to the center and the Lincoln project can help that happen.

by Anonymousreply 58November 2, 2020 2:06 PM

I think r28’s post is most relevant. People are taking him out of context in my interpretation. You could even say he was ridiculing the both sides argument.

Still not a good move

by Anonymousreply 59November 2, 2020 2:16 PM

I think he's great!

by Anonymousreply 60November 2, 2020 5:38 PM

They have already said they won't return to the Republican Party. Maybe they try to form their own. The Bull Moose Party or something.

by Anonymousreply 61November 2, 2020 5:59 PM

Jane Lynch must be making a fortune with those game shows.

by Anonymousreply 62November 2, 2020 6:01 PM

[quote] Maybe Biden will just be the pallet cleanser

Nah. I’m sure they have people at the White House to handle the deliveries.

Oh, and it’s usually referred to as “breaking down” the pallet. Just some insider information for ya.

by Anonymousreply 63November 2, 2020 6:03 PM

I thought they were Republicans, R61? Isn't that their whole point : Republicans Against Trump?

by Anonymousreply 64November 2, 2020 6:05 PM

AND WHO IN THE FUCK IS HE TO BE A EXPERT ON THIS MATTER AND ANYONE SHOULD LISTEN TO HIM ABOUT ANYTHING OF IMPORTANCE AGAIN???

by Anonymousreply 65November 2, 2020 6:05 PM

[quote]Biden's exact words are "I am transitional president".

I doubt that.

by Anonymousreply 66November 2, 2020 6:05 PM

[quote]Obviously, Covid-19 doesn’t count.

Well, that's just dumb r22.

by Anonymousreply 67November 2, 2020 6:07 PM

I stand corrected, Wikipedia says they are former Republicans.

But then, who will save the Republican Party?

by Anonymousreply 68November 2, 2020 6:09 PM

The name of the project evokes the Republican party. They are just the lunatic fringe of Rs who want to win elections with something other than voter suppression.

by Anonymousreply 69November 2, 2020 6:13 PM

I cringed a little when John Mulaney said nothing would change, but he more than made up for it with the Ichabod Crane skit. It was hilarious, I almost never find anything on SNL funny but that skit was hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 70November 2, 2020 6:31 PM

I disagree with him but he's should be allowed to make a joke without being shifted upon. There has to be room for a variety of views, including Bernie Bros. This cancel culture will be the end of comedy and authenticity. I already have to walk around saying that men have vaginas and women have penises.

by Anonymousreply 71November 2, 2020 6:41 PM

shitted on ^

by Anonymousreply 72November 2, 2020 6:41 PM

Yes, he should be allowed to have his own opinions, but it was bad judgment to say it 3 days before a major election. That's all we need, an excuse for people not to vote because "they're both the same." It was irresponsible. He should have left it at the "elderly man contest."

by Anonymousreply 73November 2, 2020 6:51 PM

Is r63 supposed to make us think he's clever?

by Anonymousreply 74November 2, 2020 7:10 PM

Those of you who even hint that there is not a world of difference are either incredibly stupid or willfully self destructive. On every front life will be better under Biden- he DOES want universal health coverage, he simply is not married to a single source (there are many versions world over), he will address the environment and climate change, he will develop Federal pandemic policy, he will address Citizens United, he will increase tax on corporations and the very wealthy, he will protect the rights all Americans, he will address immigration and get kids out of cages, he will address prison reform, he will protect a woman’s right to her health decisions, he will address infrastructure. He will re-engage with our allies on trade and mutual security.

All these policies and positions are in his platform and are light years better for Americans and the world in general. No difference? Lordy who knew how ludicrous this board can be?

by Anonymousreply 75November 2, 2020 7:23 PM

How ludicrous indeed “Charlie”.

by Anonymousreply 76November 2, 2020 7:31 PM

There is a bunch of well off people who right now are vacationing in Mexico (what covid?), already have fantastic health insurance through their 6 figure jobs, live in gated communities etc. A friend of mine is in that position and he and his husband are in PV right now posting speedo selfies, their twins at home with the nanny and they didn't bother to vote because 'they're basically the same'. I mentioned the SC, their marriage rights etc.. and they said they'll just move to Paris because their law firm has an office there and the boys are young enough to pick up the language. What can you do.

by Anonymousreply 77November 2, 2020 8:14 PM

You can tax them into oblivion, R77.

by Anonymousreply 78November 2, 2020 8:27 PM

People don't seem to understand satire anymore.

by Anonymousreply 79November 2, 2020 9:26 PM

I think this is what he meant r63. Although your analogy is equally accurate.

I just watched the skit. Had I not been alerted to the comment, I would not have noticed. I would have assumed it was just part of the setup.

by Anonymousreply 81November 2, 2020 9:37 PM

r77, what a couple of privileged cunts.

by Anonymousreply 82November 2, 2020 9:55 PM

I buy the position that he's one of those jacked skinny guys with a dick the size of an elephant trunk.

Therefore, he can do no wrong!

by Anonymousreply 83November 2, 2020 10:04 PM

I mean: Let's focus on the important stuff folks!

by Anonymousreply 84November 2, 2020 10:08 PM

The most funny thing about John Mulaney was when he somehow got a Seinfeld style sitcom greenlit called "Mulaney" (naturally) where he played a fictionalized version of himself with bits of his stand-up interspersed between the scenes. He was quickly discovered to be an unfunny dildo and Fox halted completing filming for the season and only aired 13 episodes before canceling it.

by Anonymousreply 85November 2, 2020 10:18 PM

I just watched his monologue and it was very funny. These people getting offended over this just need to start their own country at this point. I really wish they would just go away.

by Anonymousreply 86November 3, 2020 3:40 AM

R85, that show was touted as the next big thing.

How do they let such dreck get on the air?

I guess you got be in it to win it.
