Actors you’re pretty positive never used the casting couch in their careers. Needless to say Jennifer Lawrence will not be in this thread.

Doesn’t make for an exciting contribution on DL but I would also say 95% of actors have not. Perhaps if you drill down to A Listers or actors who work for a certain director it’s more but actors as a whole it’s really not common. The gatekeepers in casting offices are mostly middle aged women. Ditto for agencies that will consider signing new talent.
Thousands of gorgeous young people enter the profession every year. If it was easy to sleep your way to stardom, this country would have 100 million movie stars and a few Trump people in the middle insulting them! My ex was great friends with a former agent. Even great connections do not mean you will get an A List career. This guy knew several successful actors very well. One was Suzanne Pleshette (he and his interior designer partner had a monthly brunch date with her). Suzanne has serious connections in the biz but she told him if you want to keep the friendship you cannot ever ask for career help because when you do the friendship is over. He also said he joked that surely she could have blown a Lew Wasserman behind the wife’s back and got a supporting role in a picture. She said nope because it puts you on the disposable list in the minds of powerful men and they will destroy you if they think you’ll blab.
He also said that people in the business sit around and ponder why X has a career and Y doesn’t too! He said nobody has ever figured out how to take a gorgeous young actor from a great acting school and guaranteed turn them into an A lister or even a TV star. He said you just never know. The young gorgeous thing you’re certain has “it” will struggle to book anything and the 40 year old you passed on signing will get a lucrative TV gig.

The casting couch exists even outside of mainstream Hollywood acting. There has been Broadway scandals as well where it was revealed favors were exchanged. It is a thing in the entire industry, as well as the sports, dance and fashion industries.

An A-list career is a heady brew of talent, charisma, and timing. Having the right look and the right attitude at just the right time AND getting just the right role to showcase your talent. Every A-lister has a breakthrough role that led to bigger things. If that role hadn't come along, their careers would have been very different.
No wonder actors are so neurotic. It must be crushing to know you can look great and work hard for years and years and never break through, while some idiot fresh off the bus falls ass backwards into your dream life. How many pretty brunettes of the early 90s must have hated Julia Roberts? How many handsome blond studs would have happily broken a bottle over Brad Pitt's head? These days, every skinny doll-faced twink in LA must be ready to stick a shiv into Timothee Chalamet.
