Anybody watching?
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

How is this getting past the PC Police?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 24, 2020 3:50 AM |
It’s a little icky (the period debutante). I laughed a little. But it feels more scripted. Staged.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 24, 2020 3:52 AM |
Let us touch our vagines!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 24, 2020 3:53 AM |
It really doesn't seem like Borat should be able to fly in 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 24, 2020 3:57 AM |
its OK. There isn't as much hidden camera stuff as the first one, it's far more manufactured. prefer the hidden camera stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 24, 2020 4:05 AM |
It was OK. I had a few laughs but the first one was amazing. I think the bar was set too high - I love SBC. Agreed, too much manufactured stunts, too much scripted time between pranks, and the payoffs weren't quite as good. It's worth a watch if you have Amazon.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 24, 2020 4:24 AM |
I'm about to watch it now. Obviously my main interest is in seeing Ghouliani make a gross embarrassing ass of himself. Can't wait!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 24, 2020 5:39 AM |
The Giuliani scene is actually worst than I thought. At first I thought it was just another made up headline, but it's way more uncomfortable than imagined. He's so gross.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 24, 2020 6:13 AM |
Not sure if this has been noted, but SBC is speaking Hebrew when he is supposed to be speaking Kazak.
Not made up Hebrew, but he's saying exactly what the character is supposed to be saying via the subtitles and sometimes adding in more detail.

R10 that's very interesting! Thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 28, 2020 2:59 PM |
I wanted to laugh more, but I actually cringed more, because some of the idiots featured in this movie were pretty fucking idiotic and scary. Those QAnon guys. Holy shit.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 28, 2020 3:03 PM |
I’m not a Rudy fan but it did look like he was just tucking in his shirt after mic was removed. However, he was just creepy in general especially when he followed her into the dark bedroom, sat on the bed put his hand on her waist.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 28, 2020 3:12 PM |
Rudy might have been tucking in his shirt but why didn't he stand up or at least sit up to do that? Why would he tuck in his shirt laying on the bed? Also, his asking the woman for her address and phone number was creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 28, 2020 3:14 PM |
r14 = Rudy Giuliani
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 28, 2020 3:20 PM |
I didn't like the scripted parts. The "cute" relationship between father and daughter did not belong in a Borat movie. Save it for Hallmark.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 28, 2020 3:25 PM |
Good lord, what kind of gay men are you? He gave his dick two strokes before he was the luckiest man on earth and Borat came rushing in.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 28, 2020 3:28 PM |
[quote]Baron Cohen is a smug, arrogant ignoramus.
And yet:
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 28, 2020 4:05 PM |
Funny, cringey and scary as hell (at the state of America and what some Americans just accept as fine) - loved it.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 28, 2020 4:24 PM |
I loved it. It's not as funny as Part I, but it's still great.
They had to do the scripted parts to set up the pranks. My favorite part was when Tutar excitedly described her bathroom discovery to a Republican women's group.
SBC can't do all of the pranks because too many people recognize him now, so he had to have a co-conspirator. It was very unselfish of him to share the spotlight with someone as talented as himself. Maria was great in this film.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 28, 2020 4:37 PM |
Does he live in the US, it sounds like it?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 28, 2020 5:03 PM |
I wish it were funnier.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 28, 2020 5:13 PM |
Worth it for two moments: Borat offering his "tight backpussy" to Giuliani, and the Running of the Karens.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 28, 2020 5:16 PM |
R11, I find him very handsome in a certain way, but I tend to like the Chosen. He's tall and intelligent, and kind of impressive, but he is also very uneven. He can be repulsively gross and tasteless, but then do something like that story about the Mossad spy (on Netflix), which I thought he was good in.
The size differential between him and Isla Fisher is weird, though. She is very tiny.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 28, 2020 5:19 PM |
Scary, I agree, but every country has its scary types. I think Cohen is a true clown and points out our faults with his brave clowning.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 28, 2020 5:45 PM |
Not great Hebrew either
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 28, 2020 6:32 PM |
R18 it’s now basically the same format and style of humour as the webseries PUPPET FOLK REVIVAL aka RED BAND, out of Israel.
Down to the poor Hebrew, the lampooning of American-Middle East relations, and the pure and sweet father-child relationship in an otherwise crude and gross production.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 28, 2020 6:47 PM |
Uncomfortably cringe inducing some in parts even as it pulls punches in others.
Overall: embarrassingly funny.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 28, 2020 6:58 PM |
It's fun, but nowhere near the first film in amount of laugh-inducing moments.
I was actually on the floor when the daughter was dancing with her period, but other than that, it was just ok
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 28, 2020 7:16 PM |
[quote]It's fun, but nowhere near the first film in amount of laugh-inducing moments.
I watched this one and then the first one, never having seen it before. The naked sixty-nine with the fat guy left me scarred for life. I also realized I've met the etiquette lady through a mutual acquaintance.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 28, 2020 7:25 PM |
I thought the whole "staying with the QAnon" segment had to have been staged. Turns out I was wrong and SBC actually lived with them for five days!
[quote]Yes, Borat actually moved in with two QAnon conspiracy-believing Trump supporters during the COVID-19 lockdown. Baron Cohen said of the experience, “the hardest thing I had to do was, I lived in character for five days in this lockdown house. I was waking up, having breakfast, lunch, dinner, going to sleep as Borat when I lived in a house with these two conspiracy theorists. You can’t have a moment out of character.”
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 28, 2020 7:38 PM |
I think the big difference between this movie and the first Borat movie is the tone. The first film was silly and playful, and while it featured some really stupid people, it wasn't political in nature, so you felt comfortable laughing at it all.
The backdrop of this movie is the MAGA cult, QAnon, and Christianity. It was too scary and sad to laugh at a lot of it, even though you really wanted to.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 28, 2020 8:07 PM |
I did like the scene where they visited the Christian doctor after Borat's daughter accidentally swallowed the plastic baby on top of the cupcake.
"I want to get the baby out of me."
"I just wanted to make her feel good, so I put the baby in her."
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 28, 2020 8:09 PM |
Probably I’m a monster but I did laugh in horror and also amusement at the Obama song.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 28, 2020 11:48 PM |
It was definitely cringe worthy but oh so good.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 29, 2020 12:07 AM |
Very nice news re the kind old babysitter lady.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 29, 2020 1:56 PM |
I prefer Sacha’s cousin Simon.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 29, 2020 2:03 PM |
It's nice that a GoFundMe got her some money but fucked that that's what it took. She was one of the good ones in a film that shows how often Americans use politeness as a way to avoid helping those in need and SBC should have paid her more than a lousy pittance.

[quote]I did like the scene where they visited the Christian doctor after Borat's daughter accidentally swallowed the plastic baby on top of the cupcake.
He wasn't a doctor. He was a radicalized Christian working in one of those pretend "Pregnancy Termination" places that talk women out of getting abortions.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 29, 2020 5:44 PM |
I loved Jeanise Jones (the "black grandmother") who appears the film.
After watching the sequel, I went back and watched the first film, and I noted that a black woman saved the main character in that movie, too.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 29, 2020 5:52 PM |
I really liked it and Maria Bakalova was the star of the film for me.
R35 - lol. But what really surprised me was the man who they were speaking to about abortion thought they were committing incest and said nothing, he was more concerned about the termination. Assuming the scene was not cut, of course.
That's good news about R38, Jeanise was amazing and the only one to actually say something.

The debutante ball scene was fucking gross. I mean, the first film had some gross set pieces too but they happened to be super funny at the same time (like naked Ken Davitian trying to suffocate SBC with his fat Armenian ass) but that dance scene was just gross.
That scene and the Republican women's group one were totally missed opportunities to get some more cringeworthy lines out of those rich Repugs. The only things the icky fertility dance and the stupid speech about masturbation did was to gross the attendees out.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 29, 2020 6:18 PM |

I'm good with that.

I don't have Amazon Prime, so I can't see this movie. How can I? Is there some other platform for it or am I just SOL?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 29, 2020 6:55 PM |
I can't believe nobody has brought up the creepy plastic surgeon who admitted to wanting to fuck Tutar (did he know she was "15"?)
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 29, 2020 6:58 PM |
The score impressed me. For six months of rushed work, it came out very well. It references the original strongly in places, but also has plenty of decent original cues.
In fact, the way they put this together in such short order generally is impressive. Was everything backend-to-front done from scratch between January and September of this year, or had there been an unproduced script and a score draft lying around for years onto which they could graft the COVID subplot?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 29, 2020 7:35 PM |

I laughed the hardest during the fertility dance! It was so utterly absurd that I couldn't stop laughing.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 29, 2020 7:48 PM |
I that the debutante dance was hilarious.
I have been to debutante parties and they tend to be full of people who should be grossed out.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 29, 2020 8:11 PM |
R50 were you presented to society? Tell us EVERYTHING.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 29, 2020 9:10 PM |
R51 No, my best friend in high school was a deb and I escorted her to parties. There is one ball, but parties all summer, as the debs take turns trying to outdo each other with better venues, food, and bands.
I had fun but it is very snobby/elitist.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 29, 2020 9:27 PM |
I liked the second moviefilm better than the first part. It was a lot more thoughtful than the original Borat movie.
I laughed until I cried when Maria was wearing the plastic dress cover at the store “I really like it” and when she went to get the baby taken out. Love SBC. I understand his kind of humor is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ve been a huge fan since Bruno.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 29, 2020 9:37 PM |
I don’t get how the movie works. Surely everyone sees the film crews everywhere ie the planned parenthood clinic and know something fishy is going on. Just seems super staged.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 30, 2020 3:59 AM |
I bet if he released the Obama song as a single it would go to #1 on the country charts
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 30, 2020 4:01 AM |
I liked it. I liked how without compromising his boldness, SBC ended up creating both a critique on our stupid government, and also a 21st c feminist manifesto. The father/daughter storyline was pretty amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 30, 2020 4:17 AM |
My favourite parts were the 'fertility dance' and the plastic baby. That actress was pretty amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 30, 2020 6:03 AM |
She was totally setting Rudy up with those knee touches. I mean. I cannot stand the man, but he's an ancient old drunk from another time. When a young thing keeps touching your knee, for his generation, it means something. It means "I want you in me. I will cheat on my husband with you. It's on."
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 30, 2020 6:08 AM |
Rudy is deluding himself if he thinks a young woman is looking at him and thinking "I want you in me"
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 30, 2020 5:02 PM |
R58 Well, of course, she was setting him up and leading him on. That was the point of the bit.
But any old fart with a sense of self-awareness, self-respect, respect for women, and decorum would not have pursued this. This whole segment just shone a huge spotlight on the depraved, pervy, nutso asshole who Rudy is.

People think they are taking part in a foreign documentary and sign releases
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 30, 2020 6:13 PM |
It must be the case that to be that famous and putatively famous, you have to be reckless. I am so fucking careful when I see someone recording around me, and I'm talking about at a corporate function! I'm just a manager at a tech company. I wouldn't DREAM of letting someone know I even caught any intimation of flirting if I'm answering questions, especially from a younger woman. Reckless and greedy, that's what gets you far.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 30, 2020 6:16 PM |
The Borat character has been around since the late 1990s. That's a very long time for sketch comedy Bit.
Still, it's quite a pleasant and unexpected turn to give Borat the man a backstory and a family, and a higher purpose. SBC is really going to leave a mark on British comedy, thanks to Borat and to a lesser extent Ali G.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 1, 2020 7:06 PM |
Why SBC brought back Borat, plus some very nice photos of him:

Husband and I watched Subsequent Moviefilm last night for the first time. Parts are chilling—especially his “friends” from Washington State—in light of recent events.

I just listened to his interview on Fresh Air. He comes across so much more intelligent and thoughtful than I anticipated.
He said that after he sang the song at the rally, the ralliers starting hearing who he was, got really angry at being made fun of, and went after him. He said a guy pulled a gun on him and was going to shoot, but his bodyguard grabbed the guy's arm and whispered, "It isn't worth it." Cohen fled to a van. The ralliers tried to pry open the door and drag him out. He lay on the floor and put his feet against the door to keep it closed. Until they went away.
He said he was wearing a bulletproof vest and security told him it was within seconds of being bad. He said he will never go undercover again.

I like that he’s in his underpants a lot.

One of my favorite parts was when he went in the Southern bakery, picked out a cake, and then asked her to write, "Jews Will Not Replace Us" on it. She did it without a second thought.
