There were a lot of great soap opera gossip and chatting sites in the late 90s and early 2000s. I loved Media Domain for the great fights that would go on there, sometimes for days on end. DL had a really great soap gossip thread here too, filled with real insiders who were mostly 100% on the mark when they said what was going to happen on OLTL, sometimes weeks or months in advance. True insiders.

The imdb message boards. You could occasionally get some good gossip there, but there were also some dumbass homophobes, too. I remember there were these fraus and Alias fangirls who were obsessed with Victor Garber. Before he came out, there was a poster who claimed to "know for sure" that he was straight because she "knew his family" - bitch, please!

R60 yeah I think they got rid of the IMDb message boards because of the bullying and racism.
I remember on the IMDb board for Sanaa Latham, she had so many hateful and racist comments. Reason: the character she played on Nip/Tuck was dating Julian McMahon's character and didn't deserve him. You know it was all fat frau fangirls.
BTW, WHET Julian McMahon? The last movie I saw him and was Fantastic 4 where he played Dr Doom. That was 15 years ago.

The Stile Project was HUGE in 1999-2000 so I think it counts. He jumped the shark pretty early by faking his suicide. This was back in the day when a webcam was one frame per 5 seconds or something, so he was able to fake one frame of what looked like the bottom half of a guy hanging. He turned the site into almost entirely a porn site very soon after.

Those of you on TWOP Sucks, did you know there was also a TWOP Sucks Sucks? It was just a bunch of bitches who thought they had hidden their website from search engines by calling it "Lyle Lovett's Needs," except they hadn't and when people found it, there was drama for a few weeks. Kind of embarrassing since the people with the secret website were older, like in their 40s.

A friend of mine, who is indeed straight, stumbled upon that site and perused it for a while (I think he even created a username) before he finally realized it was for gay guys. This was back when they had a more generic forum look, and not all the gay porn ads they do now.

My death space.com was a site in the heyday of MySpace that had links to the social media of people who had died alongside their obituary or news story about their deaths. Usually the dead were young people who died doing something stupid or in an auto accident.

I also still refer to Yelp, in combination with Google reviews that show up when I search for the location, and, depending on what I am looking at, perhaps Trip Advisor and Twitter. I understand that some reviewers might have an axe to grind, or conversely might be paid to post favorable reviews, but looking all around is the best I can do to see what people have experienced. That reminds me, there used to be an old retiree who Yelped hundreds of local places with considerate detail and objectivity, but he died. Lots of people here miss him.
