But this is horrible. Some boring country version. Britney's version from 2007 sounded more modern. Guitar was especially bad.

I like both versions. Very different. Miley's version sounds more haunting. Her voice is so low. I wonder what it will sound like when she's older (like how Stevie Nicks' voice just hit the basement floor).

Britney’s version is far superior

When I watched OP's video, it recommended a playlist that included Miley singing with her sister (?), Noah Cyrus. Beautiful sibling harmony. Noah actually has a higher voice and more range.

Very different and darker take. I like it.

I got chills. She said she compulsively sings all the time. And she's getting better and better- really knowing how to belly-up to a mic and 'sell' a song.

Isn't that how all the greats got good, just singing and singing, in dives and parties and carnivals? Billy Holiday, Janis Joplin, Judy, Tina Turner...

Most of today's vocordered, autotuned whispercoos didn't 'pay their dues'.

"It's gloomy .. and everyone is looking down, except Britney who's looking around through her veil at the people …She then looks into the camera and says “Its Britney Bitch” ..She slowly starts to move away from the crowd .. hoping no one sees her, but makes eye contact with a guy in the funeral

…She starts moving a little faster, hiding even a little .. and he starts to follow her … she jumps into her car drives off .. she parks somewhat illegally on a curb .. and begins walking down and then opens a deserted door.

The door open into a dark club ..

She starts walking down a hallway and there are people kissing and dancing on both sides .. and then the camera zooms to one side where there is a Britney dancing on a pole.

The funeral Britney who has now changed into another dark outfit continues her walk down the hallway, then stops and looks around ..Then we see in the distance another white and red dressed brighter Britney dancing with dancers on a stage .. which is the main dance scene …Then the Britney walking through the hallways gets pushed into the wall by the guy who was at the funeral … but when he turns the girl around its not Britney … and now that Britney is lost among dancers in the crowded club … she starts to move through them … while the other Britney is on the stage dancing with the dancers …

Suddenly the on stage Britney is kidnapped and ends up in a dark room with bad pipes and leaking water .. She's tied to a chair with her arms behind her back while girl -who we only see from the back but is assumed to be another Britney- is roughing her up , slapping her.. just being violent .. to the point where eventually we think Britney dies …

We then flash back to the funeral … and somehow we realize there no one in the coffin .. and we're left with the man ..

Going back through all the steps he realizes that the girl on the pole wasn't Britney …The girl rouging up Britney wasnt Britney …And then the man seems lost …The camera zooms out out of Britneys eye while she blinks, throws off her funeral hat onto a bed … and the video fades out"

She is a mess but she is not without talent. Her cover of Dolly Patton’s Jolene is pretty amazing.

A little soap and water, a stylist, maybe a nicotine patch and a month of silence (on an island in Africa like Annie Lennox or Adele did when they damaged their vocal cords), and you might have something.

The keyboardist on her cover of “Jolene” is super goddamn handsome. My objective opinion is final.

Miley and Britney are both rednecks but the difference is Miley had connections to the music industry and grew up rich. Britney grew up poor and had had to work her way up. Miley is like a tomboyish hillbilly who would have been into motocross while Britney is like a demure cheerleader who would have been a sorority sister. Like Miley, Britney's voice is more suited to country or blues. Unlike Britney, Miley sings in her natural tone which is deep.

Miley's voice is much more interesting than Ariana Grande, Bille Eilish and Beyoncé to me. Her voice isn't pretty but I think she has a lot of presence. Miley would have fit better in the 1960s singing folk or soul.

She needs to stop coveing other peoples' songs and write some classic songs of her own. If she's capable of that.

I feel like she's still trying to find her identity. I like that she experiments even if it doesn't pay off a lot of the time (see Dead Petz). Miley needs to find a good songwriter who can write songs suited for her voice and give her a unique identity.

Miley does Courtney Love/Hole "Doll Parts". Since hearing her newer stuff, I've become a fan. Even like her cover of NIN's "Head Like a Hole"(from her episode of Black Mirror).

Gimme More was not a hit. Britney's awful VMA performance certainly didn't help sell it either. It is a cult classic though and Blackout is well-regarded despite not being commercially successful. Britney is a pop culture icon but not a musical icon. I feel you need to be able to sing or write a song or play an instrument to be eligible for a music icon status. Aretha, Joni, Beatles, Clapton and Elvis are musical icons. Madonna, Britney and Cher are pop culture icons.

Um...OP the song was ALWAYS tragic and creepy. Especially with zombie Britney in her undies looking lost while "performing " it.

Her parents can't control what route she goes. She was 21 during the Bangerz era. Dolly and Billy Ray both support her crazy antics maybe because they were wild in their youth and they expect her to mellow out by age 30.
