She seems nice.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 18, 2020 2:32 AM |
I've never seen Issa in anything other than her HBO show. I'm excited to see how she does. The last time Bieber released music, it was less than impressive. Hope his music is catchier like it was two albums ago.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 18, 2020 2:35 AM |
I hope Bieber gets naked.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 18, 2020 2:36 AM |
Thanks. I'll be reading a book.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 18, 2020 2:37 AM |
Why is Justin Bieber allowed on the SNL set but that country singer was banned after partying? Bieber is one of the biggest partiers during the pandemic.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 18, 2020 2:40 AM |
I was shocked to find out that her show was considered a comedy, I only watched a few episodes, but I didn’t find anything funny about it and it seemed more like it was a tragedy.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 18, 2020 2:47 AM |
I hope Bieber is actually in sketches. He's actually pretty funny in a lot of them.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 18, 2020 3:09 AM |
[quote] I hope Bieber is actually in sketches. He's actually pretty funny in a lot of them.
I agree. He's not intelligent, but he has good comic timing and ability.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 18, 2020 3:17 AM |
why the fuck does Lorne love Bieber so much? I'm so sick of this little brat being on SNL every damn year. Almost as bad as when Lorne went through his Timberlake phase last decade
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 18, 2020 3:33 AM |
Carrey's Biden is awful.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 18, 2020 3:33 AM |
I didn't watch either of the town halls, but I imagined that this is what they'd be like.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 18, 2020 3:35 AM |
ugh SNL is making Biden look like a senile idiot who is barely better than nutty Trump. I hate how SNL does that both sides shit

If I don't see some Cecily tonight, I will be very upset.

by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 18, 2020 3:49 AM |
R12, unfortunately, I imagine they feel that's the only route they can take since there just isn't much to mock about Biden. But your point is well taken.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 18, 2020 3:50 AM |
Why do they keep FORCING Maya Rudolph's Kamala into these sketches that have nothing to do with her? I'm sure she's getting paid well but does she really not have anything better to do? It's so awkward.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 18, 2020 3:51 AM |
R18 Well she does a good job and is actually funny, unlike Carrey's Biden and the snooze fest that is Baldwin's Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 18, 2020 3:54 AM |
It's really nice to see Bowen carry a skit (and not just be Asian Man).
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 18, 2020 3:55 AM |
Solid sketch to start the night.

I love Chris Redd, but this is baaaaad. As though her loser shithead boyfriends would just appear and parade through the nice restaurant. Hate this premise.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 18, 2020 4:06 AM |
R29 In NYC we now have sidewalk and street extension of restaurant seating, so that’s the justification for the skit, but I’m still not buying this host being funny.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 18, 2020 4:09 AM |
What's wrong with Pete's face? It's all bloated. I have always found him thoroughly repellant, and this new fat face makes it doubly so.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 18, 2020 4:10 AM |
I said this last week, and I'll say it again: The writing this year is as bad as it was during the historically terrible 1980-81 and 1994-95 seasons.
The second at-home episode was pretty funny and innovative. Maybe they should have just kept that format for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 18, 2020 4:10 AM |
I liked the restaurant sketch and think Issa is adorable.

Chance The Rapper isn't talented either

The song is not terrible.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 18, 2020 4:14 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 18, 2020 4:15 AM |
No, R42, Chance the Rapper.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 18, 2020 4:15 AM |
Their duet was so messy. But I have to say that both Bieber and Chance have really, really good voices; they don't go flat live like so many singers on SNL do. I just don't like this kind of music. AT ALL.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 18, 2020 4:15 AM |
Was Bieber singing about Jesus??? He really did turn into a religious nut. I bet he is a huge Trumptard.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 18, 2020 4:16 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 18, 2020 4:17 AM |
what are some of you seeing and hearing? Bieber is not "tight". He's scrawny as hell
he doesn't have "a really good voice" either. This song he was singing was very easy for anyone who can carry a tune. He's got minimal talent
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 18, 2020 4:17 AM |
I tell ya Biebs can sing like a black dude

by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 18, 2020 4:19 AM |
How did they have a random person sing with him and go through the needed quarantine, but that other singer last week was out for an infraction. I think the real scheduled guest last week was cut for another reason and not quarantining issues?

by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 18, 2020 4:20 AM |
if SNL doesn't make Don Jr and Eric act like they're on coke then I'll be annoyed. The 2 of them have quite unhinged in recent months
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 18, 2020 4:21 AM |
The Lexington Steele joke bombed because the audience didn’t know who he is
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 18, 2020 4:22 AM |

Chloe as Tiffany looks exactly like Tomi Lahren.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 18, 2020 4:23 AM |
SNL hasn't adapted the Trump brothers sketch. They're not just embarrassingly dumb now. They ramble incoherently like their father these days and seem quite nervous about losing

by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 18, 2020 4:27 AM |
R56, I didn't care for that either. He basically said Biden is as bad as Trump, so what difference does it make who we vote for. Biden is not above being made fun of just like anybody else but that was a bullshit comparison to make in my opinion, even in the interest of "just making a joke."
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 18, 2020 4:29 AM |
So was the new female cohead writer brought on to deflect some of the bad writing blame from Colin?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 18, 2020 4:30 AM |
Heidi Gardner is not at all funny. The only thing funny about her is that uggo face.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 18, 2020 4:32 AM |
R70 Hey, now. People can't help what their genes are or what their features turned out to be. I think she does the best she can with what she was given. You don't have to think she's funny, but I don't understand making fun of peoples' looks.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 18, 2020 4:34 AM |
I really like the furniture in this sketch.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | October 18, 2020 4:37 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 18, 2020 4:39 AM |
This show has been a flop so far
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 18, 2020 4:39 AM |
The 1980-81 season was a total clusterfuck. Lorne left, and Jean Doumanian, his replacement, passed up Jim Carrey, Paul Reubens and John Goodman! Joe Piscopo and Gilbert Godfriend were both annoying as hell. The only good thing that came from that year was the introduction of Eddie Murphy. Which I suppose balanced the cosmic scales.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 18, 2020 4:39 AM |
Lorne should have left 20 years ago
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 18, 2020 4:42 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 93 | October 18, 2020 4:54 AM |
Justin Bieber really is a good singer.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | October 18, 2020 4:55 AM |
All the sketches are so lazy. It's like they're not even trying.
I think the problem is they have too many disparate talents operating in their own little silos.
The show was best (most cohesive, most consistently entertaining) when it had a core of people who were highly trained in sketch/improv and used to working as a group and rescuing flat writing. The original cast, the 1985-90 cast, the 1995 cast, Amy Poehler.
Right now they seem to have a bunch of people who are standups or did random comedy nights in Brooklyn or online videos. They're not clicking as a troupe. And the political satire is just so weak, outdated, off the mark.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | October 18, 2020 4:56 AM |

Bieber is not a good singer he's mediocre at best
by Anonymous | reply 100 | October 18, 2020 4:59 AM |
lazy is the right way to characterize the show. The problem is once they find a hit sketch they overplay it to death and barely evolve it. Doing the same shit gets dull
Lorne needs to be replaced as well as the head writers

by Anonymous | reply 104 | October 18, 2020 5:01 AM |
This is the funniest thing of the show, the ebay commercial. I think we can all relate to the big things we were going to do with all of our new free time. I have watched SOOOOO many shows. I intended to learn how to use a sewing machine. It's out of the box but that's about it.

[quote]Carrey's Biden and the snooze fest
Jim Carrey was so overrated in his day, even more boring now. Why do they even have him on there? Not funny. And no, I am not saying that because of Biden, there was another comedian that did him a few years back that was a lot funnier. Carrey is just playing a one note Bernie Bro caricature of old.
But to be fair, tonight's whole show are really sucking. Even the guys in front of the cam can tell you can read it on their faces.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | October 18, 2020 5:02 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 107 | October 18, 2020 5:02 AM |
Didn't someone say last week that the reason Cecily hasn't been there so far this season is because she's making a movie?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | October 18, 2020 5:03 AM |
Cecily has an Apple Poz series with a musical premise.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | October 18, 2020 5:04 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 110 | October 18, 2020 5:06 AM |
I think Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, Kyle Mooney, Chris Redd and Melissa Villasenor need to go. Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Ciecily Strong, Beck Bennett and Mikey Day are talented and I'd like to see them move on to bigger and better things.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | October 18, 2020 5:06 AM |

So basically you want everyone to go?
by Anonymous | reply 114 | October 18, 2020 5:16 AM |
They are miscasting everyone a lot lately. Carrey as Biden is totally off. And Colin Jost as Mayor Pete was pretty boring as well. Yes, I know, they were dormmates or something. Maybe that's why he sucked at it I don't know but as flat as Carrey's Biden.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | October 18, 2020 5:17 AM |
No R114, he just wants the boring non funny ones to go. Don't be such a drama queen. I agree with most of that guys list.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | October 18, 2020 5:18 AM |
Didn’t he list the whole cast minus the newbies and feature players?
by Anonymous | reply 117 | October 18, 2020 5:21 AM |
R116, you’re full of shit. He named 11 cast members. That’s just stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | October 18, 2020 5:21 AM |
Some of these cast members are like long-term government workers that need to retire.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | October 18, 2020 5:22 AM |
SNL's 94-95 season was odd, you had Janeane Garofalo as a regular and Michael McKean, Lenny from Laverne and Shirley, who was essentially replacing Phil Hartman, and you still had the "frat boy" gang of Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Tim Meadows etc
by Anonymous | reply 120 | October 18, 2020 5:22 AM |
Issa Rae was good, but she was let down by a show filled with awful sketches. My God, this was bad.
Bieber sounds really good. I liked the first song a lot, but the second was so fucking self-indulgent I almost threw up. “I’m so lonely?” Huh? And the world gets the blame because he was “an idiot kid” but “no one was listening”? Jesus Christ.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | October 18, 2020 5:24 AM |
Jost and Che as head writers is clearly the reason the show sucks so much now. The last good season IMO was season 42 when Trump was elected and Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider were the head writers.

R68 it’s satire and they are trying to be as neutral as possible. I’m tellin ya, the splitting in DL is out of control lately. People getting triggered over stupid stuff like SNL. As if it’s going to influence people how to vote.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | October 18, 2020 5:47 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 138 | October 18, 2020 7:14 AM |
R134, I noticed the same thing about Bieber. He looked lonely and lost, and I didn’t see any cast members moving in for hugs or congratulations. He did hug his piano player, but that was it.
Just seemed kind of awkward.

by Anonymous | reply 143 | October 18, 2020 7:46 AM |
R143 for the win! I like Jim Carrey, but the last couple weeks were lazy and demeaning to Biden. The first is Carrey’s problem, the second is Lorne’s.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | October 18, 2020 7:58 AM |
Jason Sudeikis was awesome as Biden. He was actually funny without being insulting or tying to recycle his old characters.

R32 I am with you. I am pissed at how lame the first two episodes have been. It's like they just don't give a damn. I guess they figure viewers will tune in regardless. But more and more, it's like I am wasting 90 minutes every week. Fortunately, I have DVR. It's the only way to watch these days. I fast-forward through sketches I don't like and all commercials. Turns out I can watch SNL in about 30 minutes.

R140 that was January 1993, Madonna played Marilyn in a skit with Phil Hartman as Bill Clinton and Jan Hooks as Hillary Clinton
by Anonymous | reply 147 | October 18, 2020 10:14 AM |
Yes, that sucked. They have so much political material to work with and yet they are unable to turn it into anything that is funny, clever, witty, or even barely amusing.
I’ve never been a fan of Jim Carrey, and his Biden impersonation is unsurprisingly dreadful. R124 nailed it — it is Carrey doing Fire Marshal Bill doing an impression of Joe. Ugh.

[quote] [R134], I noticed the same thing about Bieber. He looked lonely and lost, and I didn’t see any cast members moving in for hugs or congratulations. He did hug his piano player, but that was it.
Wait, they still all hug each other during the closing credits even during a pandemic? What happened to social distancing? Last week’s musical guest got fired for not social distancing.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | October 18, 2020 11:04 AM |
It’s hard not to hug. I have noticed that when friends or family are together, social distancing goes out the door when we say our goodbyes.

Why all the Kamala drinking jokes? I thought Rudolph’s Kamala was great during the primaries, but seems to be falling flat now. Could it be just the stink of Carey’s Biden rubbing off on everyone?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | October 18, 2020 2:10 PM |
Carrey is not a good Biden at all and has been slammed for basically doing a variation on his "Fire Marshall Bill" character
The Trump brothers bit on Weekend Update is always funny
And Bieber has Rob Lowe Syndrome-- pretty boy who seems sort of dumb but surprisingly has great comedic timing.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | October 18, 2020 2:19 PM |
^^and has been slammed by many critics, not just R124

The Guardian (UK) review said it was one of the worst episodes of late, which is really saying something
by Anonymous | reply 156 | October 18, 2020 3:20 PM |
I know I'm in the minority, but the one person on the show that makes me laugh is Michael Che. And Colin is okay too in the Weekend Update sketches. Though if they are the head writers, they obviously give the best stuff to themselves as the rest of the show always suck. I'm really tired of Kate McKennon too. I think she's far more limited than someone like Cecily Strong, but even the best of them can't do much with shitty writing.
And the 80-81 season looks brilliant next to this one. The one sketch that I remember from that was someone doing Irene Cara running around the building singing, "Same! I'll sing this song forever! I'll sing this song till I die!"
by Anonymous | reply 157 | October 18, 2020 3:49 PM |
I know I'm in the minority too, but I just do NOT find Maya Rudolph funny at all.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | October 18, 2020 3:56 PM |
Carrey has turned out to be a huge misfire, Issa was pitifully neglected, and the writing has been sloppy and unimaginative. SNL is sinking to a new low.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | October 18, 2020 4:11 PM |
What is Bieber’s skin color?
by Anonymous | reply 161 | October 18, 2020 4:24 PM |
STFU Bieber’s skin color troll.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | October 18, 2020 4:53 PM |
Issa, a great comic actress and good writer, pretty much had nothing to do. Wasted.
Jim Carey was 98% rubber-faced Jim Carey skit, 1% Biden, and 1% lost in the ozone. Not even remotely funny or relevant.
Bieber was lip synching, wasn't he?
by Anonymous | reply 164 | October 18, 2020 4:57 PM |
No way is this going on a six week break.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | October 18, 2020 4:57 PM |
I think they should stay away from newbies during this time of adjustment and transition and pull out their regulars, especially those five timers. Hell, they’ve got Baldwin, Carrey and Rudolph on retainer, just have one of them be the host.

Just wanted to add to the Cecily Strong love. Not only is she one of the funniest cast members, male or female, doing some great characters but she's also very attractive and has an excellent singing voice although the show hasn't done any musical sketches in some time. Surprised she hasn't been had much air time in the recent shows.

[quote] Bieber sounds like a goat in this song "lo-oh-whoa-oh-ly"

I love Chloe Fineman - she always really commits to each sketch and goes for it. She can play anything. Kristen Wiig had that talent - you could play young, old, pretty, deformed. I thought Kate would be Kristen's successor on the show and I thought she was very strong 4 years ago with Hillary, Kellyanne, and had a wide range. Maybe with success she can be more choosy with her sketches. If so, she does feel so one note as many others have said. Cecily really has proved to be an amazing asset. I love Maya, but her Kamala is so much weaker now that her primaries Kamala. Maybe she has to pull back a bit more. Also Kamala is the VP, so she is not out there as much as Joe so there isn't much organic material to work with, highlighting the writers weakness. I actually like the women who was posted as unattractive. I think she's pretty funny. I also like the black woman that's a regular - both were in the ebay commercial, which I think was my favorite.

Too many cast members. Too many writers. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | October 18, 2020 10:58 PM |
TOO MANY COMMERCIALS!!! There's no way to generate any momentum. The commercials in between last longer than the actual skits.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | October 18, 2020 10:59 PM |
I've noticed this season the opening skit has been a lot longer than usual.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | October 18, 2020 11:01 PM |
I shut the tv off during the God awful dueling town hall cold open I watched old Eddie Murphy and Black Jeopardy SNL sketches on YouTube until I fell asleep.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | October 18, 2020 11:04 PM |
I think Jim Carrey's Biden has too much energy. Biden is far more calm that Carrey is showing.
I think that made a mistake by not putting Justin Bieber or Chance the Rapper in any of the sketches, as they're both really funny.

SNL had a really great season a couple years ago when Julio Torres was a writer on the show.

by Anonymous | reply 191 | October 19, 2020 5:01 AM |
Having sex with half of Williamsburg/Bushwick, R191. Same as when he was on the show.
Get on Grindr and you'll see him there, sometimes with another guy.
Shame, because he's talented.

by Anonymous | reply 193 | October 19, 2020 5:08 AM |

Why was Chance there? I missed that explanation?
by Anonymous | reply 195 | October 19, 2020 5:31 AM |
I think the only reason the show continues to air is because the alums - many of which have huge careers - keep it going by keeping it seem relevant. After all, SNL MUST be funny, if Murphy, Fey, Myers, Poehler, Fallon, Sandler, Davidson, Strong, McKinnon etc were/are on it!
Along those same lines, it's one of the surest way to have a long, successful career (whether deserved or not.) So it will always seem more important than it should to the comedy world.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | October 19, 2020 5:42 AM |
No way can I spend the next 4 years watching Jim Carrey as Biden. I would rather poke needles in my eyeballs. He's not funny!
And unfortunately since doubling down is the thing these days, I am sure the next few weeks will be even more Carrey on steroids shoved down our throats. I would be nice just for once for someone to say we heard all of you and agree we fucked up with Carrey. Look for a change in comedian in our upcoming skits. But no they wont to that, they will push Carrey on us and drive everyone away instead.
Carrey is a rich man, his humor is past his prime. Cut him lose and find someone better. The only think hurt will be his ego.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | October 19, 2020 6:31 AM |
It all seems so...dated.
80s coke character?!
Kyle Mooney needs to go. Painfully unfunny.
Beck is great.
Bowen and Chloe are nice additions.
On the whole, the show is a bloated, self-satisfied mess.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | October 19, 2020 1:09 PM |
Speaking of Beck, he captures a baby so well in this sketch. Brilliant:

Should be 6 months.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 19, 2020 5:14 PM |
Apparently, a lot of people think that someone else should play Biden.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | October 19, 2020 7:34 PM |
They have such a huge cast. And there is another lady who looks like Aidy. Im fine with most of the cast, but Kyle and Pete are useless. Melissa is pretty useless and a big letdown, great mimic but bad actor and comedienne who smiles through the punchline. Chloe pretty much is the better Melissa. Beck, Kenan, Kate, Aidy and Cecily play the older non gen z people— if they leave, who is gonna play the old guys? Everybody who’s left looks like they are out of college. Bowen has found his niche, he is ok and makes the most of what he gets. Ego and Chris are generally good. Heidi is generally ok, but limited.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | October 19, 2020 10:18 PM |
Chloe Fineman is the best thing to come to SNL in a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | October 20, 2020 12:21 AM |
Don't like Jim Carrey as Biden, love everything Chloe does. No idea why, but I enjoy Pete Davidson.
