The Password is Courage is a 1962 black and white movie based on a 1954 World War II Memoir. Its the true story of Sergeant Major Charles Coward who was a senior British Officer in the prisoner of war camp Stalag VIII - B. Its a lighthearted film. This movie is on TCM tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 6:00 am EST. Sergeant Major Coward is played by gay actor Dirk Bogarde and Coporal Bill Pope is played by another gay actor Alfred Lynch who is a hottie. Alfred Lycnh picture attached. If you haven't seen this movie, its pretty funny and lots of eye candy.
West 11 (1963) is also a really good Alfred Lynch Movie, he also got his Partner the actor James Culliford a small part in it. They were together over 40 years and lived in Brighton.
James died in 2002, Alfred in 2003

I love old-time movie titles like this one, and (my all-time favorite) "Valiant is the Word for Carrie." (The Three Stooges parodied the latter by calling one of their short films "Violent is the Word for Curly").

Wow, Alfred Lynch was hot!

Tunes of Glory 1960 starring Alec Guinness which I watched recently, also stars another gay British actor John Fraser. John Fraser wrote a book about his life called Close Up in 2004. He mentioned Dirk Bogarde and his secretary lover of 50 years Anthony Forwood and how Dirk was so closeted and afraid it would affect his career, despite his playing many gay roles. Actor John Fraser is 89 and living in Italy.

There's still a trailer on YouTube for West 11.

This is a really good movie. Love Alfred Lynch.

Alfred Lynch reminds me of Tom Hardy facially

Alfred Lynch reminds me of Richard Harris facially. Both their noses look as though the've been smashed-in in football scrums.
I know that English 'working-class' actors such as Finney, Connery and Micklewhite were in vogue in the early 60s but I've sat through about 5 of Alfred Lynch's movies and have never perceived anything special or gay about him.

John Fraser died this year - I linked his obituary a few weeks ago.

Alfred Lynch's Wiki page contains nil details on his personal life including mentioning life partner James Culliford.
Happily there are other sources of information...

Ironically James Culliford's Wiki page does list him Alfred Lynch's life partner.

They used to live up at Saltdean if I remember correctly.

R10 You'd think John Fraser would be a DL favourite for playing Lord Alfred Douglas.
John Fraser had a sweet face and his Oscar Wilde film was superior to Jude Law's Oscar Wilde film.

[quote] up at Saltdean
But I went to Google but it suggested that Saltdean is at sea level— just like Brighton.

Brighton is up hill and down dale.
The Lido is there, so you could be right.

Alfred Lynch's alleged sex-play wth Rudolf Nureyev is mentioned in at least seven blogs on Google
But no factual details or corroborating evidence.

I forced myself to watch this on Youtube and I have to agree with all the comments on IMDB
1. That the film looked very cheap
2. Mr Bogarde can't play comedy and he can't play butch

I liked Alfred as funny sidekick Tranio in Zeffirelli’s “Taming of the Shrew.”
And Fraser was suitably callow in the epic, “El Cid.” Has a marvelous scene where his multiple wounds after a battle are being cauterized with a red-hot sword. He keeps insisting he can take the pain, as his eyes roll back in his head and he passes out.

Glad to see him get DL recognition.

OP just saw the film. The supposed eye candy is only from the neck up. Not even a shower scene.

Alfred Lynch rode to fame because he had the same broken nose as Richard Harris.
Richard Harris rode to fame because he was perceived as being masculine by playing characters who bashed women and drank themselves into state of stupidity.
