And what are things Datalounge doesn’t know about?
What are things that Datalounge knows very well?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 20, 2020 4:08 PM |
I didn't know the term "sexual preference" was considered widely offensive.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 16, 2020 2:11 AM |
might be time for bed. I thought R1 posted he didn't know "sexual predator" was considered offensive.

Of course it's not. It's a calling card.

R2, in Hollywood, it's a compliment.

by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 16, 2020 2:49 AM |
Point of order, OP!!! Datalounge knows everything worth knowing.
To infer or suggest that we must actually "know" things is ridiculous. We don't need to "know"... because we know...capish..?

[QUOTE]To infer or suggest . . .
R7, I think the word you were looking for is "imply," not "infer." The speaker "implies," and the listener "infers."
[bold]Now[/bold] the DL knows everything worth knowing.

DL seems to be highly competent at the humanities, but could use improvement in the STEM subjects.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 16, 2020 4:37 AM |
Datalounge doesn’t do outside America very well. Apparently the only non Americans on Datalounge are Russian Bots. The idea that English is spoken outside of the US does not compute unless someone in America asks what the “English “ may think of something , then suddenly we exist for that moment.
Datalounge also believes that everyone thinks as an American Democrat, even if you live outside the US and that if you don’t you are a Frau , Nazi or a Russian troll.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 16, 2020 4:48 AM |
DL knows the provenance of the tiaras of European royalty like nobody's business.
But its knowledge of medical health problems is very suspect, even though DLers seem to pride themselves on their medical know-how, which is almost always wrong.

Inbred English royalty.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 16, 2020 1:16 PM |

Well said R13!
Knows very well:
1. How to shut down ANY opposing viewpoints
2. How to offer grammar and spelling advice that add absolutely nothing to a post
3. How to make me laugh (seriously, there are times I am LITERALLY laughing out loud at some of the wit that can be found here)
4. And as R11 wrote: COCK. DL knows cock very well
Doesn't know about:
1. Disagreeing with someone's opinion in a civil and mature manner and then offering something more constructive
2. Indians (from Asia)
3. Sharing the sandbox with others

DLers know practically everything there is to know about benzos and anti-depressants. My medication is suddenly no longer being manufactured, so I swear I might come to DL to do some research on what else is out there.

straight people. DL knows less than nothing about straight people, but then, maybe they don't want to.
There are a lot of very intelligent people on here, but they often get drowned out by the stupids, so they know how to drown out smart people well, I guess.

Knows well: Books/Literature (I've gotten so many good book recommendations here), movies (don't try to beat a DLer at Oscar trivia), politics (there are exceptions but I've found the posters here are very well informed), climbing Mount Everest (weirdly enough). Also DL has been pretty accurate about calling out all the sexual predators in the gay community - Spacey, Singer, Bruce Weber, James Levine, etc. were all called out on the datalounge years before metoo.
Doesn't know: hetero sex, heterosexual women, rap and hip-hop
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 17, 2020 5:13 AM |
We know heterosexual women better than they know us.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 17, 2020 5:18 AM |
r53, maybe, but that's not exactly a ringing endorsement since most straight women don't know a thing about gay life unless they have lots of gay friends

R1 Lesbian feminists invented that particular split of the hair. Preference implies you might change your mind or, God forbid, are attracted to both and prefer one over the other.

Preference also implies it’s a choice, as though one chooses to be gay or not.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 17, 2020 11:14 AM |
R50 you make a valid point.
However, which response are you more likely to see on DL when someone does share an opposing viewpoint?
1. "RXX you make a valid point. I hadn't thought about it that way; but, I still feel what I wrote stands true." (criticise)
2. "RXX you're a fucking asshole" or "You're a Trumper" or "You're a troll" etc. (shutting down)
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 17, 2020 3:49 PM |
Freedom of speech means freedom to call someone a troll or a trumper. That's not shutting people down.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 17, 2020 5:17 PM |
I have learned more about British nobility from DL than anywhere else including Debrett's Peerage and Baronetage......
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 17, 2020 5:49 PM |
Agreed. The royal threads have proliferated here to an unhealthy degree, ever since the Sussex marriage and troubles, but the knowledge of the intricacies of the UK monarchy and peerage system as well as recent European royal history (ie., the late Romanov era) is actually high-quality has led to some great exchanges.

DL is great talking about 1980-2000.
DL is not great talking about society as it exists in 2020. Ask about a place and you still get anecdotes from what it was like in the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 18, 2020 3:17 AM |
That’s not true, r69.

Doesn't know very well: Malibu beachfront real estate (Tasteful Friends threads) and the market for same. Posters are always comparing apples to oranges in these threads. Just because that's not how you'd spend your multi-millions doesn't mean it's not worth buying, to some people.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | October 18, 2020 10:24 PM |
