The public vote for electors for President. The electors are usually party leaders for that particular state. Trump reduces regulation and gave tax breaks to the rich. He also urged the Fed to lower interest rates. He increased military spending.

The economy was already doing well and improving. The market loved what Trump did; however, Trump fired all the tools at his disposal to inflate an already strong economy and stock market. When the economy has its next recession, because the economy is cyclical we know there will be one, there will be fewer tools for that President to use to get us out of that recession. This means the next recession will be stronger and longer than it would have been if Trump was less reckless. This was true, even before COVID.

It took the market almost 10 years to recover from the Great Depression. I expect the economy and market to turn sharply lower due to COVID, if nothing else, and that recession will be horrific.
