What is the most underrated Rihanna album/era?

Rihanna is so good but I feel like a lot of her stuff is underrated.

Which album/era do you think is the most underrated?

Who gives a shit?

by Anonymousreply 1October 15, 2020 1:35 AM

None of them. They are all over-rated.

Fuck I accidentally clicked Good Girl Gone Bad. I was going to vote Rated R.

Good Girl Gone Bad -- reminds me of fun times at the club at 23, 24.

by Anonymousreply 4October 15, 2020 1:39 AM

I didn't know she had more than one.

by Anonymousreply 5October 15, 2020 1:44 AM

I would say Unapologetic. Good Girl, Rated R and Loud were all hits.

ANTI because it was a much better and cohesive album than Lemonade but didn't get nearly enough attention. And now that Lemonade is aging like milk only after a few years, ANTI still sounds fresh.

Loud. Reminds me of my early college days and the album was just fun with a lot of hits that were very in the groove of 2010's terrible, yet fun, pop music.

Rated R is a cohesive album with some artistry to it. That era had amazing videos and looks with styling help from Roisin Murphy’s husband. The others had some bops but aren’t on the same level.

Out of all the 2000s pop artists. I would say with confidence Rihanna had the best singles discography: "SOS", "Pon De Replay", "Umbrella", "Take A Bow", "Unfaithful", "Rehab", "Disturbia", "We Found Love", "Only Girl In The World", "What's My Name", "Rude Boy" and "Work". All aged better than most. Her albums have always been hit-or-miss and mostly uneven though. I was actually surprised by ANTI, not one skippable track on it and Rated R does have a lot of hidden gems on it.

ANTI is a great album. If I could go back to the Album of the Year Grammy clash between Beyoncé and Adele, Rihanna should have come out on top and she wasn’t even nominated.

I'm going to vote for "Prom Bat". After she exposed herself as hateful human trash, I stopped listening to the three songs I enjoyed. I haven't forgotten, and I won't forget.

Rihanna was stuck up and nasty in the past. She was young and uneducated and got a ton of wealth and fame which went to her head. It seems she matured and is more humbled. I think getting beat by Chris Brown to a pulp and left for dead in the middle of the street was disturbing and made the public more empathetic to her.

What did she do?

Well no shit, Sherlock. Although it was looking shaky for a while after she started hanging out with him again.
