Gloria Estefan's Daughter "I'm a Lesbian"

Recalled Emily, “I was like, ‘Hey, I’m in love with this girl.’ The first thing you (Gloria) said was, ‘If you tell your grandma and she dies, her blood is on your hands.’ I just wasn’t ready for that.”

Emily went on to say that she understood her grandmother was old-fashioned and might not respond well to the news, but having her mother say those words made her feel like “whatever it is, hide it, it’s not OK.”

“That’s where my hurt started,” Emily continued. “I’m never going to forget that.”

After quietly listening to her daughter speak, Gloria said that she remembered things differently, saying, “Just like you were in that turmoil of emotion, you’re remembering things, as we all tend to do, in a different way.”

STFU, Gloria.

by Anonymousreply 1October 15, 2020 12:10 AM

I call BULL on this. Gloria is a close friend of Rosie O'Donnell.

by Anonymousreply 2October 15, 2020 12:16 AM

It is bull. Gloria explains it well in the episode. This was just made up drama so people will watch.

by Anonymousreply 3October 15, 2020 12:18 AM

Emily is a total drama queen. She's annoying. As if she is the only gay person to come out. Me me me me me ! Gloria is very level headed in this entire situation. Yes, her closest friends are either gay of huge gay allies aka Rosie and Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 4October 15, 2020 12:22 AM

Lesbian drama's gonna get you...

by Anonymousreply 5October 15, 2020 12:23 AM

If someone has found the courage to come out to you, it's imperative not to launch into that they SHOULDN'T TELL X.

by Anonymousreply 6October 15, 2020 12:24 AM

My Cuban mothers family, all 5000 of them (kidding, but theres a LOT) never once acted any differently towards me when I came out. Nor to several of my relatives who did as well . In fact my one aunt built an apartment onto her house for my cousin since he wasnt going to get married and move away anyway ! He is married now,to his lovely husband, and they STILL live in that apartment ! Its in Coral Gables and its huge,I dont blame them ! Cuban people are very earthy and love to joke ,but to them family is everything. Oh there might have been some things said in the heat of the moment ,they are passionate as well, but when the chips fall, they would never turn their back on family over something like sexuality . My dads family,on the other hand, refused to speak to me again. Like i cared.

by Anonymousreply 7October 15, 2020 12:31 AM

Gloria shouldn't have planted that seed.

by Anonymousreply 8October 15, 2020 12:32 AM

Have any of you actually watch this episode?

by Anonymousreply 9October 15, 2020 12:33 AM

Now how did Cher react?

by Anonymousreply 10October 15, 2020 12:34 AM

[quote] Now how did Cher react?

She threw Chaz out of the house

by Anonymousreply 11October 15, 2020 12:37 AM

R9 I tried to find it ,can you link for the rest of us ?

by Anonymousreply 12October 15, 2020 12:39 AM

I tried r12. You can only watch it on FB I guess? I tried linking it but it won't let me. Go to Gloria's FB page.

by Anonymousreply 13October 15, 2020 12:45 AM

Just watched it R9 . It was very good. Emily did come off a little "me,me,me" but thats just her age showing. She seemed to realize how lucky she was that she never had to doubt her parents love . not all of us were that fortunate.

by Anonymousreply 14October 15, 2020 1:24 AM

Team Gloria here! Gracias

by Anonymousreply 15October 15, 2020 12:41 PM

It's a day ending in Y, so we're going to blame the victim again today

by Anonymousreply 16October 15, 2020 1:25 PM

You will be surprised grandmothers are always the most accepting people for you to come out to.

by Anonymousreply 17October 15, 2020 1:27 PM

Oh, dear, r16.

by Anonymousreply 18October 15, 2020 3:19 PM

"Oh, dear" doesn't mean what you think it means r18

[Quote] "Oh, dear" doesn't mean what you think it means

Oh but it does, dear. You're just out of the loop.

by Anonymousreply 20October 15, 2020 6:43 PM

Did Gloria throw her chancla at Emily? ¡Ay, Dios mio!

by Anonymousreply 21October 15, 2020 7:22 PM

Is all this drama just to draw in viewers? Everyone wants to be a reality star.

by Anonymousreply 22October 15, 2020 7:37 PM

I believe the daughter. Never liked Gloria whose career far exceeded her talent and likability. She's a Republican - she's only friends with Rosie because they were neighbors.

I can't get behind any Republican.

She's hasn't been Repub for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 26October 15, 2020 9:56 PM

Again, Emily is a drama queen. Typical of her generation.

by Anonymousreply 27October 15, 2020 9:57 PM

Emily already had "don't tell anyone" floating in her head or she'd have been out as soon as same sex romantic feelings occured. Gloria confirmed her fears by verbalizing that very same thought. It's not "drama queen" to acknowledge that.

by Anonymousreply 28October 15, 2020 10:00 PM

I thought Gloria's husband was the gay one.

by Anonymousreply 29October 15, 2020 10:01 PM

[Quote] I can't get behind any Republican.

Have you said that to your Repig family and friends? I'll bet not.

by Anonymousreply 30October 15, 2020 10:01 PM

LOL! Okay, Mary/r28.

by Anonymousreply 31October 15, 2020 10:08 PM

"Mary" requires an exclamation point, LOLer at r31.

by Anonymousreply 32October 15, 2020 10:12 PM

Actually it doesn't in this case, Mary.

Mama made me marry 'em.

by Anonymousreply 46October 15, 2020 11:02 PM

Gloria was a public figure and she knew how the public can turn on someone on a dime and she was afraid for Emily being publicly humiliated . Gloria is older and she really didnt get how public perception has changed the last decade. She was simply protecting her daughter ,she thought . Personally , though its seemingly much more acceptable to be openly gay ,I also believe that the second you leave the room the straights think "fag" . Human nature hasnt changed that much ,nor will it ever.
