He was supposed to be 14 yrs old. He seemed at least 16 yes old if not older. It bothers me. I was 12 yrs old when the episode first aired in 1985.
David, Blanches grandson

Blanche having a grandson that old in Season 1 seemed unrealistic.

Rue McClanahan was only 51 in that first season, so I'm sure she was pissed that they cast a teenager to play her grandson.

OP should be less bothered about an old sitcom and more bothered by his inability to use an apostrophe.

r3, In the first few episodes, the characters were being written as though they were in their 60s, which is what Susan Harris imagined, though they were later aged down to their 50s. Like Charlie had supposedly been dead 15 years in the third episode, and it was nowhere near that long later on. And if Sophia was 80 when the show started, it would have made more sense for Dorothy to be in her 60s (a Catholic girl in the 1920s/1930s getting married at 18 to 20 and having her first kid seems more likely than one who waited until she was 25+) So Blanche having a 14 year old grandson made sense at the time, but not later. (When David's mother Janet finally appeared in Season 7, they cast an actress who was 25--there was no way she could have had a 14 year old son 7 years earlier.)
OP, yeah, the actor was 16 and read as older. Hell, earlier in the year he appeared in "Just One of the Guys" and looked like this... (Clearly they should have given David some shirtless scenes.)

It bears repeating:
[quote]This thread and others make me think that Datalounge is basically a secret underground civilization of people who have never seen the actual world above. The only clues they have to it are some ancient videotapes of the complete series of "I Love Lucy" and "The Golden Girls," and they watch these over and over again, obsessing about them, going over every last detail, and wondering just how life in the sunlit world above can possibly correspond to the details of what they're seeing on the holy videotapes.

(Oh, and I forgot to note, I'm sure Rue knew what she signed up for when she was originally playing older. She did the same thing on Maude where Maude and Vivian were supposed to have gone to college together, even though she was 12 years younger than Bea.)

Agree r3. I was really caught off guard that season 1 Blanche was supposed to gave a teenage grandson.
Like many things with GG doesn't quite make sense.

In real life, four aging memaws living together would be bragging about and obsessing about their children and grandchildren NONSTOP. Tripping over themselves to show anyone who passed through the threshold of the lanai all of their treasured photos, bronzed baby booties and locks of hair. That's my understanding of memaws, anyway.
The Girls were so modern. They were simply too busy hustling, just trying to get paid and get laid, to think about their relatives...until the relative was literally knocking at the door. They couldn't even be arsed to mention "oh, so and so is coming to visit" to one another until the day before, or the day OF, that person's visit.

They needed a strong male figure to give David the bare ass spanking he so richly deserved in that episode. It would have been more realistic and gotten a good rating for Saturday night. R5's picture indicates he would have a perfect screen ass!

Dorothy never once for a second looked anything “50s” on the show. Same for Rose.

He's the brother of 70s teen actor Scott Jacoby.

r15, and more important to this thread, the actor who played Dorothy's son Michael, of course.
