What do you take for pain?

Me - Tramadol and Extra Strength Tylenol gel caps.

by Anonymousreply 75October 15, 2020 1:26 AM

Be careful with the Tramadol.

It's addictive, OP.

by Anonymousreply 1October 14, 2020 1:36 AM

Vicodin washed down with vodka

by Anonymousreply 2October 14, 2020 1:44 AM

I rely mostly on Tylenol then take Tramadol only as needed.

by Anonymousreply 3October 14, 2020 1:44 AM

The official pain relievers of Datalounger: Midol and Pamprin.

by Anonymousreply 4October 14, 2020 1:45 AM

What is tramadol? I used to take advil but it does not mix with prep according the pharmacist when I had wisdom teeth out. It's too hard on the kidneys so now I take tylenol.

by Anonymousreply 5October 14, 2020 1:47 AM

Opium

by Anonymousreply 6October 14, 2020 2:00 AM

Gabapentin

Booze, and lots of it

by Anonymousreply 9October 14, 2020 2:12 AM

Oh shweet Jeshush... I don't even know half the time which pillsh I'm taking!

by Anonymousreply 10October 14, 2020 2:13 AM

My medicine cabinet if full of pain relievers, but now that I take anticoagulants, I cannot take Advil or Aleve. Tylenol is just not very effective for me. Aleve was my choice when I could take it.

As for Rx medications, I have opened and unopened bottles of Vicodin, Oxycontin, Valium, and Fiorinal. But my go-to for pain is Ultram, aka tramadol. But I resort to it only when pain impairs my ability to do things I need to do, like get out of bed, work, walk long distances.

by Anonymousreply 11October 14, 2020 2:15 AM

Chronic for the chronic.

Mexican Horse

by Anonymousreply 13October 14, 2020 2:19 AM

Tramadol is over the counter in many countries. Don't worry about it.

by Anonymousreply 14October 14, 2020 2:23 AM

Advil does NOTHING for me anymore since I was popping them four at a time for a solid month after a bad skiing accident. It just doesn't work anymore. I would like to find something different because I have ongoing neck pain. When it's bad, Tylenol can't cut through it.

I have a friend who has been on Soma for years for chronic pain. Anyone ever try Soma?

by Anonymousreply 15October 14, 2020 2:31 AM

Maybe worry about the fact that tramadol lowers your seizure threshold and if you're taking more than prescribed (max: 400 mg/24hrs), some people have been known to seize on doses at or above 600 mg/24 hours, sometimes less. If you have a history of seizures, you should avoid it. And since it's an atypical opioid that also possesses mild norepinephrine/serotonin reuptake inhibitory properties, you should likewise be careful taking tramadol if you're also on higher-dose antidepressants. You don't want serotonin syndrome.

by Anonymousreply 16October 14, 2020 2:51 AM

I had plantar fasciitis and was taking two 200mg ibuprofen which really wasn't doing much. I finally went to a podiatrist who told me 400mg was enough to dull the pain but not enough to reduce the inflammation. He prescribed 800mg, 3x a day, which, along with the physical therapy 'cured' me.

When I had implant surgery, the oral surgeon prescribed 600mg ibuprofen, which did the trick.

For every day aches and pains, 400mg of ibuprofen works fine.

by Anonymousreply 17October 14, 2020 2:59 AM

I had the most excruciating tooth pain and ended up needing a root canal, but since it was a weekend, the dentist told me to take 2 Advil and 1 extra-strength Tylenol every 4 hours. Amazingly, it really eased the pain

by Anonymousreply 19October 14, 2020 3:03 AM

R18 Yes a lot of people don't realize that you can take Tylenol with Advil at the same time! I didn't know either until my dentist told me a couple years ago.

by Anonymousreply 20October 14, 2020 3:04 AM

R20 my dentist told me it actually works better than an opioid and it's non-addictive and non-constipating

I only take Bayer aspirin. I have liver disease, so I have to avoid other pain-killers (although I've had Oxycodone for orthopedic procedures).

Occasional Motrin.

by Anonymousreply 24October 14, 2020 3:26 AM

Isn't Tramadol used as a sleeping pill so to speak? If so, how can anyone take it before they have to go out or go to work? Maybe I'm thinking of something else but I think it's Tramadol.

by Anonymousreply 25October 14, 2020 3:27 AM

You're thinking of trazodone, R25. It's an old-school antidepressant that is also quite sedating. Tramadol is an atypical opioid agonist used for pain relief.

by Anonymousreply 26October 14, 2020 3:34 AM

Lidocaine patches. Costco has a great deal on them. They've made life with my arthritis so much easier.

Bayer Back & Body. It has caffeine and works like a charm on muscular/joint pain. Anacin would be another brand name. I ran out recently and tried all Rite Aids, groceries, and even 7-11 type of stores. Rite Aid & CVS didn't even have store brands of the concoction. I kept stopping by every day and finally found it! At buy one, get 2nd half off. I'm good for at least a year.

by Anonymousreply 29October 14, 2020 4:05 AM

Tramadol is an opioid pain reliever. It is the least addictive of the class. I take it for psoriatic arthritis

by Anonymousreply 30October 14, 2020 4:11 AM

[Quote]It's too hard on the kidneys so now I take tylenol.

Which is hard on the liver if used regularly? I have a hard time understanding how acetaminophen is prescribed as a regular, daily pain reliever.

Just smoke copious amounts of pot, silly.

Tramadol when I need to take the edge off the pain. I've used Gabapentin and it was okay. I use Alleve or substitute for inflammation. Ibuprofen does nothing for me now.

by Anonymousreply 34October 14, 2020 7:17 AM

[Quote]Maybe worry about the fact that tramadol lowers your seizure threshold and if you're taking more than prescribed (max: 400 mg/24hrs), some people have been known to seize on doses at or above 600 mg/24 hours

What are you blathering about? Worry about side effects if one takes more than the prescribed dosage? The same could be said of aspirin.

What Americans should worry about is that Tramadol is 10 - 15 times more expensive in the USA than in the rest of the world.

by Anonymousreply 35October 14, 2020 2:31 PM

Yeah, not exactly equivalent, R35. Some drugs have a much higher margin of error, as it were, when it comes to dosing. Tramadol's risk of causing seizures in people who otherwise don't have a history of epilepsy is well known. If you take more than the recommended dose of aspirin or many other drugs, there's a good chance you won't suffer any adverse reactions. Likewise is true, for some people, with tramadol, as well. In others, well, enjoy your seizure. I'm not against tramadol, I've prescribed it many times, but it's not an unknown risk, especially if you take more than prescribed or in combination with other meds.

Oh STFU.

If you're taking tramadol don't worry about it Don't let the Concern Troll make you anxious about a safe medication, one you can buy off the shelf in many parts of the world.

St. Joseph Baby Aspirin

by Anonymousreply 38October 14, 2020 3:43 PM

Soma is lovely, r15.

by Anonymousreply 39October 14, 2020 3:54 PM

Yeah, ignore the trolls downplaying Tramadol, OP. It's an opiate and you can get addicted, that's not nothing.

I take Tylenol and Advil for arthritis pain.

by Anonymousreply 40October 14, 2020 4:20 PM

Depends.

Headache - Excedrin there's a bit of caffeine in them that actually makes them more effective for headaches.

Cold - Tylenol (acetominophen) both pain reliever (analgesic) and fever reducer (antipyretic)

General aches and pain - Aleve (naproxen) nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

by Anonymousreply 41October 14, 2020 7:23 PM

Kratom

Gin, and regret

by Anonymousreply 43October 14, 2020 7:27 PM

Tylenol or Aleve for minor pain. A bottle of wine helps when I feel depressed and will put me to sleep. The only side effect with wine is I starting playing showtunes on Youtube after the second glass.

Masturbate to orgasam

by Anonymousreply 45October 14, 2020 7:38 PM

I take Mobic (prescribed) for my arthritis. I used to rely on Naproxen, but it got to the point it didn't give me any benefit.

by Anonymousreply 46October 14, 2020 7:43 PM

Advil

by Anonymousreply 47October 14, 2020 7:46 PM

Any posters here regularly using NSAIDS should look into the side effects on the heart, kidneys and other organ health.

Gabapentin, generic Neurontin is not a pain medication! It's a seizure medication that dogs the brain to such an extent receptors dont receive signals as easily, the higher the dose, the thicker the fog. For the first time in 50 years people are ODing on it because they overuse and Narcan only works on narcotics which this drug is not.

Using meds for their side effects is an unfortunate side effect of the war on opioids.

Aleve, not approved by the FDA, also one more use 'incident ' (risk/hazard) away from being pulled off the market.

by Anonymousreply 48October 14, 2020 7:49 PM

R48 here *fogs* the brain!

by Anonymousreply 49October 14, 2020 7:50 PM

I get a prescription from my doctor for 800mg ibuprofen. With my insurance, I pay less than $5 for 90 pills, so it's cheaper than anything I could get over-the-counter. They're about the only thing that takes care of headaches for me (and aches in pains, in general). Luckily, I don't need them often.

by Anonymousreply 50October 14, 2020 7:51 PM

CBD oil for aches and pains...works better then any NSAID...

by Anonymousreply 51October 14, 2020 7:52 PM

I was prescribed Tramadol for severe joint pain after a viral infection. I had to stop taking it after three days because it made me feel so ill. I was woozy and felt really sick. Now I only take Paracetamol if I need to.

Ultram is the same thing as Tramadol.

I was once on Tramadol for chronic pain, and it amazingly gave me my life back. I started at one half pill a day, of whatever dose I was given. Then, I developed a [bold] tolerance [/bold] to it. This meant that a half pill was no longer effective. I then increased my dosage to one pill a day. Then I developed a tolerance to it again. Finally, I was taking 4 pills a day, the max recommended by my doctor, and I subsequently developed tolerance to that, as well.

I had now developed a [bold] dependence [/bold] on it. By which I mean, I needed it to feel normal, and that I would have withdrawal symptoms if I stopped taking it.

At that point, I should have quit taking it, for a few months. Until the tolerance wore off, but I did not. I just couldn’t go back to that pain I was previously experiencing. I found other sources for the Tramadol, and then became [bold] addicted [/bold] to it. I later had great difficulty quitting it, because I got “rebound pain” that was more severe than usual.

Ultram was marketed to doctors as pain relief with no side effects or addiction. My student-doctor told me that I “couldn’t be addicted to it”, and I then told him that I had also read that the Wikipedia entry that he was quoting about the drug, but that she should instead google “My doctor told me that Tramadol was not addictive, [bold] but [/bold]...

I was trying, here, to differentiate the terms tolerance, dependence, and addiction, because they are all different.

by Anonymousreply 55October 14, 2020 8:14 PM

Chronic pain is one of the things that leads people down a slippery slope into addiction. To my knowledge, there really are only a very few pain medications that are effective on chronic pain. I now take Lyrica, which isn’t in the same as an opioid. It helps, a bit, but not enough, in my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 56October 14, 2020 8:23 PM

R56 and everyone else start treating 90% of the problem in its level! Alpha stims and neuro stim therapy is non drug based therapy. Works on the nervous system directly instead of helping break down organ walls, causing brain damage and requiring substances.

Straight up aspirin for the most part, but not Bayer. It's bad enough that they were part of IG Farben, and made Zyklon B, but their neonicotinoid pesticides also contribute to colony collapse disorder, AND they own Monsanto.

It's like putting evil directly into your body.

I will use Excedrin (generic) if I have a headache, as it works better for that - but not at night, due to the caffeine.

by Anonymousreply 58October 14, 2020 10:44 PM

My go-to is a BC Powder but they have fucked with the packaging.

I wrote the company to complain about their new "On-the-Go Stick Packs" suck donkey dongs but they wrote back they don't care what I think.

Anyone else hate the Stick Packs?

Another vote for kratom. It is legal and easy to get. It helps with pain and mood, but does not make you feel high. It’s effective in small doses, but it can be addicting.

I saw a head shop by my house sells kratom and I'm curious about it. I was diagnosed with spinal arthritis and am in horrible pain for some days.

To those who take it does it come in different strains? How do you take it? What are the good and bad of it?

by Anonymousreply 68October 15, 2020 1:02 AM

OP, turn your teardrops into diamonds.

If I were you, I would write a country western song while you are in pain. All the greats in C$W music cover their original song version with teardrops.

My friend’s sister died of cancer. My friend took the deceased woman’s opium pain meds, I think it was morphine. Then, as described by a mutual friend, “you’re supposed to take a dropper amount, but you just know John took a big girl drink of it. So, he died a week after his sister.

by Anonymousreply 72October 15, 2020 1:20 AM

R68 There are different strains. You might want to read about it or talk to the store. A recognized strain is red maneng da, but sometimes costs more. It depends on what you are taking it for and how you react. You can experiment with different types. Powder is cheaper and you can make tea or fill your own capsules. You can also buy it in capsules. It can’t hurt to try it. It’s not really dangerous because if you take too much, you vomit. Overdoses are very rare. Good luck.

by Anonymousreply 73October 15, 2020 1:21 AM

You can also buy kratom online. I’ve never had a problem with that.

by Anonymousreply 74October 15, 2020 1:22 AM

Thanks r73. I can't take anything more potent than ibuprofen after having a bad reaction to morphine which messed my stomach up and I have not had success with CBD. I may give kratom a go.
