You're confused. Edie Falco and Tucci had the affair, but he dumped her after about a year when SHE was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, and went back to his wife. His wife was then diagnosed with breast cancer herself a few years later and passed away. In addition to the respect she commands in the industry, Falco was shielded from too much blowback by her diagnosis and by Tucci's shitheel choice to leave - people thought she'd been punished enough, I guess. Tucci is the one who ended up looking like an assholet, and rightfully so, though his wife's death seems to have erased it.
