Homophobe Bill Burr

sorry you lost your hair, Bill

by Anonymousreply 1October 11, 2020 12:30 PM

Lord save us from straight white chucklefucks like Bill Burr who want to start a "blacks vs gays, who is more oppressed?" war, probably for his own amusement.

by Anonymousreply 2October 11, 2020 12:31 PM

He looks like Moby’s evil, more fucked up twin.

by Anonymousreply 3October 11, 2020 12:33 PM

As soon as I heard his monologue on last night's show I knew Datalounge was going to have a big problem with it.

He's not politically correct, to say the least.

by Anonymousreply 4October 11, 2020 12:36 PM

He’s friends with Louis CK.

He’s always hated women and gays.

by Anonymousreply 5October 11, 2020 12:36 PM

Lenny Pickett is the SNL music director. He always sits center stage with his saxophone. You can always see him laughing through (most of) the opening monologues.

Last night... he did not move. At all. Did not laugh. Did not applaud. Nuthin'. I could not take my eyes off him.

Message received. Loud and clear.

by Anonymousreply 6October 11, 2020 12:38 PM

It's not about being "PC." It's about some straight white guy deliberately trying to start conflict between two oppressed groups he isn't part of, just for the fun of it, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 7October 11, 2020 12:38 PM

No, his comments about gay pride did not set off social media. If anything, it was the bit about white women privilege that was discussed.

by Anonymousreply 8October 11, 2020 12:38 PM

Not "world famous," dear. Briefly notable in America.

by Anonymousreply 10October 11, 2020 12:43 PM

Humor. You either have it, or you don't, OP.

by Anonymousreply 11October 11, 2020 12:45 PM

I mean, if it was delivered better, that joke could be kind of funny. It’s true, after all! But he just sucked all around, in the monologue and skits too.

by Anonymousreply 12October 11, 2020 12:45 PM
He's not politically correct, to say the least.

He’s not funny. It’s like an uneducated old man screaming at the sky. Even his voice is annoying.

by Anonymousreply 13October 11, 2020 12:45 PM
Humor. You either have it, or you don't, OP.

And Burr doesn’t. The jokes weren’t even controversy, just shit. I’m embarrassed for him. People are saying he always bombs.

by Anonymousreply 14October 11, 2020 12:46 PM

he reminds me of that black comic Tracy Morgan, who also made homo hating part of his act.

Oh, but he got a pass for that didn’t he? and why was that?

by Anonymousreply 15October 11, 2020 12:50 PM

So he's a straight white dude (at the top of the cultural hierarchy) whose set is entirely about those stupid, annoying gays, blacks, and women.

That doesn't make him a brave truth-teller. It makes him an asshole who punches down.

by Anonymousreply 16October 11, 2020 12:51 PM

Because he almost got pureed by a Walmart truck, R15.

by Anonymousreply 17October 11, 2020 12:51 PM

Eddie Murphy has had questionable gay jokes but the man is funny as hell as was the best SNL host in the last 5 years. This guy just seems lazy and dull. Larry the Cable Guy is deeper.

by Anonymousreply 20October 11, 2020 1:01 PM

He has an adult cartoon on Netflix "F is for Family". Season1 wasn't half-bad. After that, it just became "angry white guy" porn

by Anonymousreply 21October 11, 2020 1:12 PM

There are potentially lots of jokes about Gay Pride in NYC that could be funny. The reason this joke is offensive is because its not funny. The premise is lazy, ignorant and not at all clever. As Joan Rivers said, you can joke about just about anything if its funny.

by Anonymousreply 22October 11, 2020 1:15 PM
He became world famous in Breaking Bad

Saw every episode. Totally remember this scene.

Totally do not remember this cipher.

by Anonymousreply 23October 11, 2020 1:16 PM

R22, exactly. The idea that a person is just discovering what Pride is in 2020 is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 24October 11, 2020 1:17 PM

What he criticized, was that black history month was at the shortest month of the year in Winter.

That’s why you need a sense of humor to actually understand it.

by Anonymousreply 25October 11, 2020 1:18 PM

Correct, R25. I get the impression a lot of the pearl clutchers posting on there have never been to a comedy club.

by Anonymousreply 26October 11, 2020 1:20 PM
The idea that a person is just discovering what Pride is in 2020 is ridiculous.

Well he can't exactly crack jokes about airline food these days, can he?

by Anonymousreply 27October 11, 2020 1:21 PM

He's very New England Irish American. I have some like him in my family so it doesn't get my back up, despite my being gay. Their bark is worse than their bite. They are caustic and tear down everyone. Usually there is a sweetheart side. He no doubt models this on the caustic humor he grew up with and amplified it. It's not an act that I enjoy, but he can get some tee hees out of me. Tracey Morgan is a good comparison. Tracey was even heavier on the shtick and self buffoonery. But sometimes it builds and builds and does have a satiric effect.

by Anonymousreply 28October 11, 2020 1:21 PM

Better pic of his wife.

by Anonymousreply 29October 11, 2020 1:22 PM

Ugh, he's a comedian. He's supposed to push our buttons. I'm sure Lenny Bruce, George Carlin and Richard Pryor would all get cancelled today, and Joan Rivers probably would too. Yeah, his delivery was nervous and sucky. And yes, the Gay Pride bit simply wasn't funny (R24 is absolutely correct), but going after him for pointing out all our bullshit...? Lighten up, Francis. That's his job.

by Anonymousreply 30October 11, 2020 1:23 PM
What he criticized, was that black history month was at the shortest month of the year in Winter.

Totally got that without your kind help r25.

Still wasn't funny.

by Anonymousreply 31October 11, 2020 1:23 PM
What he criticized, was that black history month was at the shortest month of the year in Winter.

He also said he never heard of Pride Month.

by Anonymousreply 32October 11, 2020 1:24 PM
The asshole is still a douche nozzle.

Which, by the way, should make it very easy for him to fuck himself.

by Anonymousreply 33October 11, 2020 1:26 PM

The "Blacks get the shortest month of the year" joke is so hacky and played out. It's like the airplane food joke--done and done some more. Why is this guy hosting SNL?

And with all that's going on in the world, let's take a shot at the gays. This just shows that no matter what else straight people have to contend with, they always have and always will have room in their brains to hate the gays. The hatred only hides, it never goes away.

by Anonymousreply 34October 11, 2020 1:31 PM

He was horrible, loud, and not funny,

by Anonymousreply 35October 11, 2020 1:33 PM

He was really funny. Lighten up.

by Anonymousreply 36October 11, 2020 1:35 PM

Worse than being not funny is that he is also not cute. Not handsome. Not hot.

If a straight man can't get Data Loungers panting and wet, there is a problem.

by Anonymousreply 37October 11, 2020 1:39 PM

he's terrible. Boring, working-class white guy outrage schtick is so done.

He's funny at times, but overall, dull and screamy.

by Anonymousreply 38October 11, 2020 1:42 PM

The only reason he got the show last night was because of his relationship with Pete Davidson who he did that horrible movie with . I don’t get Lorne Michael’s fascination with Davidson and why he would do anything he asked.

by Anonymousreply 39October 11, 2020 1:43 PM

I think the white women jokes were fine, but acting like LGBTQ+ people haven’t gone through - and continue to go through - shit for being who they are in this country always irritates me. Pride Month is needed.

And black LGBTQ+ people do deserve to be acknowledged as well. They are the most discriminated against in both communities.

by Anonymousreply 40October 11, 2020 1:47 PM

I wasn't offended by it. He was just making fun of himself about being a naive dumb stupid straight white guy. It's no different if a gay guy were to do a whole routine about how grossed out they are by vaginas.

by Anonymousreply 41October 11, 2020 1:55 PM

Burr did acknowledge that when he said that by moving black pride from February to July, a gay black person would have 61 days of pride.

by Anonymousreply 43October 11, 2020 2:00 PM

No surprise that all the sensitive SJWs are clutching their pearls over this. It wasn’t that funny, no - but who cares. Almost too predictable that twitter and the like would be upset. It’s getting boring at this point.

by Anonymousreply 44October 11, 2020 2:01 PM

I wasn't offended at all. I think all of you hyper-sensitive queens need to take a few deep breaths and relax - you are always looking to bitch about something. Grow some balls and stop being so prissy.

by Anonymousreply 45October 11, 2020 2:01 PM

Thanks, I missed that part. He doesn’t seem nearly as bad as some people are letting on lol

by Anonymousreply 46October 11, 2020 2:04 PM

Seriously He is famous , he is a very good comedian. You know what? Gays wanted to be treated like everyone else. Comedians treat everyone like shit, or they should. They should mock our society. If we can’t stand mockery we are aren’t equal.

by Anonymousreply 47October 11, 2020 2:05 PM

This is why Trump will be reelected!!!!

by Anonymousreply 48October 11, 2020 2:07 PM

R47. Agreed. Moment people are treated equally they cry inequality. Just like mike pence is a misogynist and racist because Of the way he spoke to Kamala. The hyper sensitivity will be our undoing people. Relax

by Anonymousreply 49October 11, 2020 2:08 PM

Gay queen here. Did not offend me at all. What offends me are people not wearing masks in the NYC subways/buses. Also, people speaking loudly on their phones on public transit. Also, Mayor DeBlasio not doing a thing about these people and creating an atmosphere of apprehension in most of the citizens still here.

by Anonymousreply 50October 11, 2020 2:08 PM

R49

Pence is a known asshole. Fuck off with that bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 51October 11, 2020 2:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 52October 11, 2020 2:12 PM

R52

Let me put it this way suspected conservatroll: We already know Pence is a misogynist, racist, homophobic bigot. Don’t try to argue otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 53October 11, 2020 2:15 PM

So this is the kind of edgy comic uneducated white racist men find funny?

At least he didn't pull out his micro-peen.

by Anonymousreply 54October 11, 2020 2:16 PM

He toyed with some gay cliches/stereotypes? Where's the harm?

He made a point through a joke that gay pride is a month in the good weather and black people, who did bear an incomparable burden, get a shitty month in February. Horrible stuff happened to us, maybe because I lived through some of it I'm numb to it, but nobody ever owned us. I dunno. Does seem a bit hypersensitive to me to get wound up over this.

by Anonymousreply 55October 11, 2020 2:23 PM

White heterosexuals are a cancer.

by Anonymousreply 56October 11, 2020 2:24 PM

R53. Hardly conservative. And the fact you don’t even get my point shows just how fucking stupid you must truly be —

Moving on - the issue here is that when things don’t go a certain way to peoples’ preferences and wishes, or when they feel triggered by something, they cry out homophobia, or racism, or misogyny, or - the list goes on and on. If you didn’t think he was funny, then just say he fucking sucked and it wasn’t for you. This relentless need to deem everything worse in the name of inequality and injustice is a problem. Cancel culture is a problem. Don’t even bother responding triggered snowflake at r53. You won’t be worth my time anymore. Go March for trans rights or something and feel a little more worthy of yourself today ;)

by Anonymousreply 57October 11, 2020 2:25 PM

He has a famous bit about gold digging whores. It's very funny. No one has a sense of humor anymore. That's why he bombed.

by Anonymousreply 58October 11, 2020 2:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 59October 11, 2020 2:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 72October 11, 2020 2:37 PM

I actually usually think he’s pretty funny - look up Bill Burr philly rant. but I’m not sure hosting SNL was ever a good fit for him

by Anonymousreply 73October 11, 2020 2:38 PM

Heterosexuality is a choice, a sin, and the root cause of all domestic violence and sexism. And all of you self-loathing queens trying to str8splain away his Typical Cracker Behavior are not just sexist and homophobic, but racist, too. If he were Black you would’ve called him the N-word and called for his lynching by now. And if he were a woman you would say equally misogynistic things. If he were a woman you would say equally misogynistic things. And if he were Jewish, you would practically be shouting “heil Hitler“ at the top of your tobacco-stained lungs. But he’s white, male, and skinny so you give him a free pass to try in disguise hate speech as comedy.

Just for this, Ellen DeGeneres did nothing wrong. She is my heroine for showing that gays bash back.

by Anonymousreply 74October 11, 2020 2:42 PM

White douchebro mocking every group but his own, when his own is reponsible for all the oppression.

by Anonymousreply 75October 11, 2020 2:42 PM

Bill Burr mocks white douche bros plenty. You are too angry, brainwashed and stupid to recognize it.

by Anonymousreply 76October 11, 2020 2:43 PM

I wasn't offended, I just didn't find any of his act funny.

by Anonymousreply 77October 11, 2020 2:44 PM

White heterosexual gentile men are the root cause of terrorism. They deserve racism. They deserve sexism. They deserve every form of bigotry in the book because they foment it themselves.

This is why [italic]The Jeffersons[/italic] holds up better than [italic]All in the fucking goddamn racist-ass honky Family[/italic]. White heterosexual gentile males deserve to be subjected to the same hate speech they throw at everybody else. And worse. They deserve all the same violence they suggest everybody else too. But when we do it today, it’s payback for them doing it to us.

Shut up, breeders! Just shut the fuck up and learn your place. Gays are your superiors and you will treat us with respect and reverence 100% of the time. If you don’t, you will pay the ultimate price.

And the young Black man who really saved their crummy network, Gary Coleman, got none of the credit whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 81October 11, 2020 2:47 PM

Those straight comedians will have to come to terms with the fact that they'll need to learn how to be funny without punching down. The shock. Everything changes in this world. I cannot watch comedy shows from the 80s/90s on youtube without facepalming in embarsassment because if that shit was done today those comedians would be dragged on the streets.

by Anonymousreply 84October 11, 2020 2:49 PM

It’s fun to call crackers honkies.

by Anonymousreply 85October 11, 2020 2:50 PM

Oh, and stop calling breeders straight. It’s just another backhanded form of homophobia, just like “anti-white racist“ is a backhanded way of using the N-word without actually using it by blaming Black people for racism.

by Anonymousreply 86October 11, 2020 2:52 PM

How does it feel to have hair the same color as the devil‘s asshole, breeder?

by Anonymousreply 88October 11, 2020 2:56 PM

Heterophobia is not a real thing. Gays and lesbians have plenty to fear from the HATE-TERROR-SICKsuals. They are violent, selfish, greedy thugs who laugh at stupid bullshit and cannot recognize the value anything that demonstrates intelligence, beauty, taste, class, or grace, so they devote their lives to destroying all things of value and replacing them with cheap tacky shlock.

by Anonymousreply 89October 11, 2020 2:59 PM

His monologue may well have sucked (not in the States rn, don't care), but he's been around for years and has often been funny as hell. However, he is a prime candidate for the cranky old white guy school of formerly funny.

by Anonymousreply 90October 11, 2020 3:05 PM
He has an adult cartoon on Netflix "F is for Family". Season1 wasn't half-bad. After that, it just became "angry white guy" porn

Yeah, I’m getting sick and fucking tired of these selfish entitled bigoted white heterosexual gentile male scumbags having any rights whatsoever. They are the root cause of terrorism. Homophobia is incitement to violence, and disguising it as comedy makes it even worse. Laughter at hate speech is approval of hate.

Just for this, it is fucking racist to be white. And as far as I’m concerned, Billy from [italic]St. Elmo‘s Fire[/italic] was not only right, he didn’t go far enough and should’ve been more specific. If you have a son and he won’t willingly have sex with men, then castrate him.

by Anonymousreply 99October 11, 2020 3:32 PM

Its funny to see people who are against his homophobic bullshit as as sjws. All the sjws I follow on twitter love this because he targets gays and white women-two groups that the left fed to the dogs long ago.

It would acrually be a fu to the left if he took on trans folks or black loved matter. That would be something to applaud not this safe comedy bit he did

If even Roxanne Gay loves this bit there is nothing here.

by Anonymousreply 100October 11, 2020 3:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 103October 11, 2020 3:43 PM
They would be bankrupt years ago if it were not for a man who raped a lesbian being passed off as a fucking role model.

Who's this?

by Anonymousreply 104October 11, 2020 3:44 PM

Gay people are always being told by straight people to get over it when it comes to homophobia. We're told to get a sense of humor when comedians joke about killing their kids if they turn out to be gay. We're told to get over joke about AIDS. We're also being forced to accept these same assholes BS excuses about having to "evolve" on equality and gay rights. Because apparently it's acceptable at some point to not consider gays to be your equals.

Meanwhile, if he joked about slavery or used the N word, he would have been finished last night. Look at Roseanne Barr. No ones looking for her return anytime soon.

This is the thing with cancel culture. You can't sit and preach about how everyone needs to be treated with respect and dignity, only to let something slide because it doesn't personally impact or offend YOU. And I blame members of the gay community for this as well. So many are still desperate for the straight approval they never got when they were growing up, that they're always willing to let this shit slide.

I can enjoy a good joke at the expense of the gay community. I used to love the men on films segments on In Living Color. However, there's no humor in punching down. Never has been.

by Anonymousreply 105October 11, 2020 3:45 PM

R105

People like you are really reaching. His jokes were no where near the level of joking about slavery or using the n word.

by Anonymousreply 106October 11, 2020 3:48 PM

R104: I thought it was obvious that was Bill Cosby. How quickly they forget.

by Anonymousreply 107October 11, 2020 3:51 PM

Last night there were a lot of moments where it seemed like the audience did not know what to do. Lots of nervous laughter and such. It was the same with the Weekend Update. We are in this odd period where we are still majorly going through everything, so it's kind of funny, but not like we can have a good old laugh about in retrospect. SNL is trying to bring back normality, but they seem to be missing the mark.

by Anonymousreply 108October 11, 2020 3:52 PM

Yes they are, R106. When there are still places in the world where it is fucking illegal to be gay, making fun of gay people is basically lending support to those laws.

by Anonymousreply 109October 11, 2020 3:52 PM

Insure Bill Burr. He’s a misogynistic, homophobic asshole who is married to big ugly black woman. The reason I bring up his wife is because of his critical rants on the appearance of women. A part of me thinks the shit he saids about women is what he secretly thinks of his ugly fat wife.

Just because he's married to a trans woman he thinks it gives him a license to mock gay men.

by Anonymousreply 112October 11, 2020 3:52 PM

R110 here “Insure Bill Burr” should state, “I hate Bill Burr”

by Anonymousreply 113October 11, 2020 3:54 PM
His jokes were no where near the level of joking about slavery or using the n word

Saying gay people have never faced oppression? You want to say that to the people who have been murdered due to homophobia?

You're just proving my point. "Cancel Culture" in a nutshell.

by Anonymousreply 114October 11, 2020 3:54 PM

His wife looks like Joy Reid. She probably helps him write homophobic jokes.

by Anonymousreply 115October 11, 2020 3:55 PM

This asshole has long been a homophobic dick head. Last night's monologue was probably his least offensive mocking of the gay community he's done. Look back at some of his old stand up routines. It's some pretty disgusting stuff.

by Anonymousreply 116October 11, 2020 3:59 PM

If you follow comedy then you know who Bill Burr is. Also he’s actually done more un-p.c. stuff on women, that’s where his main targets are. He also has a fairly large black fanbase FWIW. Not my type of comedian but hey, don’t watch him if he’s not for you.

by Anonymousreply 117October 11, 2020 4:04 PM

His monologue could have been written by an intersectional black lesbian feminist. It’s as safe for 2020 as you can get.

by Anonymousreply 118October 11, 2020 4:06 PM

Bill really made a name for himself in the comic world with a gig he did at a Philly comedy club. It’s notorious for being a tough crowd and lots and lots of heckling. When Bill did the club the audience was vicious and Bill stood on stage and literally yelled “fuck you” from the stage for his entire set.

Other comedians thought it was brilliant and he got a lot of cred in the comic world from it. The is led to podcasts interviews and he also has his own podcast show. All this led to his breaking bad gig and subsequent movie gigs.

by Anonymousreply 119October 11, 2020 4:07 PM

This to me is "problematic" if I may borrow from the twittershpere. It really bothers me that gays can still be made fun of constantly, but every group accepts this, even the gays. Maybe we are so used to just have to brush it off or let if roll off our backs. Homophobia is still rampant and we have the least protections of any minority yet we support every minority. I'm over it.

by Anonymousreply 120October 11, 2020 4:08 PM

What's real interesting is that many of the people praising Burr are upset over Pete Davidson going after JK Rowling during Weekend Update.

So let's follow this logic:

So white woman are overprivileged, except for one white billionaire named JK Rowling who is somehow a victim of male bashing and should be left alone?

Make that make sense.

by Anonymousreply 121October 11, 2020 4:08 PM

R119 well he did gain some fame from that. But his comedy cred was well-established before that. Like I said, he has a large black fanbase, as anyone with black friends or hang around with black people will tell you. He was one of the writers and comedians on The Chappelle Show.

by Anonymousreply 122October 11, 2020 4:10 PM
Just because he's married to a trans woman he thinks it gives him a license to mock gay men.

That makes it even worse if he is demanding that gay men be emasculated for his own sexual gratification.

by Anonymousreply 123October 11, 2020 4:16 PM

For me, SNL showcases entertainers and the occasional athlete I have heard of in skits I enjoy and musical acts I have never heard of who, after listening to five seconds of their music and determining I don’t care, give me the chance to go to bathroom or get a snack.

I don’t expect SNL to put a guy in I have never heard of in the guest position. Seriously, I have heard of every other host in the last three years except for Halsey who was the musical guest whom I always assume I won’t know. If they do, then they better deliver and by all accounts, this douche didn’t.

I don’t care about the gay pride joke. I care that one of the rarest performance opportunities in our country was wasted on some guy that likely was tapped due to his affiliation to Pete Davidson—the questionable casting choice that Lorne keeps doubling down on.

by Anonymousreply 124October 11, 2020 4:18 PM

I detected kind of a pedo vibe from that Netflix cartoon of his since they paraded both of the sons around in their underwear.

by Anonymousreply 125October 11, 2020 4:21 PM

Pete Davison’s a fucking piece of garbage. Homophobia is cool with him but JK can’t have an opinion on trans people?

by Anonymousreply 126October 11, 2020 4:21 PM

Who is she? Who was she? Who does she wish to become?

by Anonymousreply 127October 11, 2020 4:23 PM

Eh, I didn't think his jokes were particularly inflammatory or meanspirited, but they weren't funny either. Just an angry old white guy complaining about everything.

If you dunked Dennis Leary's head in a bucket of Nair the only way you could distinguish them is via familiarity with Bill Hicks' material.

by Anonymousreply 128October 11, 2020 4:30 PM
If you dunked Dennis Leary's head in a bucket of Nair

Pics please.

by Anonymousreply 129October 11, 2020 4:32 PM

I didn’t see Burr ever speaking up for Roseanne Barr who lost everything over a stupid tweet. But let a man get in trouble for joking about killing gay men and he’s all over defending them.

Misogynistic prick.

by Anonymousreply 130October 11, 2020 4:33 PM

Not particularly outraged, not particularly interested. It seemed like pandering to me.

I did laugh at Jim Carrey and fell asleep during Burr’s monologue. I pretty much guessed at how it was going to go, and seems I guessed correctly.

by Anonymousreply 131October 11, 2020 4:33 PM

Would a gay comic PLEASE go on stage and just got scorched earth on every race. I'd love some black jokes, etc. If everyone is cool with it, than I am down for equal opportunity ribbing. If a group has a problem with it, than we need a conversation. I've seen mostly gay women standup like Ellen or Tig Nevaro and they have that kind of PC, clean, inoffensive humor. I haven't heard Bowen's standup or many gay male comics.

by Anonymousreply 132October 11, 2020 4:34 PM

Jim Carrey is so wrong for Biden. He makes him look like a buffoon. Biden is not Ace Ventura or the Mask at all.

by Anonymousreply 133October 11, 2020 4:35 PM

His Biden reminds me of Fire Marshall Bill.

by Anonymousreply 134October 11, 2020 4:36 PM

Did they put Carrey under contract? The part of the cold open he was in took away from Maya.

by Anonymousreply 135October 11, 2020 4:40 PM

Biden is devoid of a big personality or interesting quirks, unless you call his misspeaking and cringe moments to be interesting. When the material is not there for comedians to spoof then it’s not fair ti expect funny materials. OTOH the opposite can be just as bad, Trump is such an insane ass-clown that he’s already a walking parody. The line between real and comedic take becomes blurred.

The last great POTUS with bigger than life personality and life story ripe to be spoofed was Bill Clinton. Pair that with the right type of comedic genius and you had pure comedy gold. It was funny to me as a kid watching it because I got the main gist of the spoof. RIP Phil Hartman

by Anonymousreply 136October 11, 2020 4:44 PM

Hartman was great as Clinton.

Ferrell was awful as W.

by Anonymousreply 137October 11, 2020 4:50 PM

The SNL set wasn’t very funny. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that we are in a pandemic and he’s not hitting comedy clubs to work on the routine.

It’s silly to say that he was trying to pit Black people and gay people against each other. One of the lines was that Black people should get July as Black History Month so that gay Black people could have two consecutive months with great weather.

For those of you who don’t know, or have been under a rock, Bill burr had a few years as America’s top comedian after Louis CK but before John Mulaney. He is absolutely hilarious and you should YouTube some of his appearances on Conan

by Anonymousreply 138October 11, 2020 4:53 PM

Jason Sudeikis is my favorite Biden.

Get Rid of Carrey.

by Anonymousreply 139October 11, 2020 4:53 PM

Woody did a good job too.

by Anonymousreply 140October 11, 2020 4:55 PM

He was the favorite to win the best supporting actor Oscar this year, but his SNL monologue may have hurt him.

by Anonymousreply 141October 11, 2020 5:05 PM
a guy in I have never heard of

They can't have Betty White every week.

by Anonymousreply 142October 11, 2020 5:06 PM

Burr's comedy is not aimed at prissy older gay men.

by Anonymousreply 143October 11, 2020 5:17 PM

Neither are Trump rallies, R143, what's your point?

by Anonymousreply 144October 11, 2020 5:21 PM

Neither Trump rallies nor Bill Burr comedy sets will be popular with DLers, R144

by Anonymousreply 145October 11, 2020 5:31 PM

Very good, R145! Smart boy! We don't like homophobes here. You get a cookie, you obtuse jackoff.

by Anonymousreply 146October 11, 2020 5:34 PM

R143 an Oscar? For what?

by Anonymousreply 147October 11, 2020 5:39 PM

He's the kind of liberal straight guy who probably loves lesbians and Blacks but has an issue with gay men

Most liberal men are like that

So of the most anti gay shit I've ever heard came from Democrat "liberal" men

by Anonymousreply 148October 11, 2020 5:40 PM

Wasn't he in the Pete Davidson film? I think he played the stepfather or something?

by Anonymousreply 149October 11, 2020 5:48 PM

R148. You are absolutely correct.

He was a shit show last night. Now he has all the MAGAS praising him and he is the new Joe Rogan to them.

by Anonymousreply 150October 11, 2020 5:50 PM

His dad is a dentist.

by Anonymousreply 151October 11, 2020 5:55 PM

He has less credibility than Marky Mark.

by Anonymousreply 152October 11, 2020 6:00 PM

Not to worry, OP!

"The King of Staten Island"'s own Pete Davidson popped up later to reclaim the show's wokeness by giving a completely uninformed, butt hurt diatribe against "transphobic" J.K. Rowling, and spread more half-baked disinformation to the brainless gobs who were watching!

I'm certain Pete Davidson is yet another Stonewall "expert", and will return in the coming weeks to shame us all into elevating the "trans Woman of Color" who "threw the first brick" Marsha P. Johnson even higher! I imagine Pete first heard of Marsha in 2019 from some tranny who was fucking him with her big "shenis"!

GAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 153October 11, 2020 6:04 PM

He's been knocking around for years and has always been a misogynist and homophobe. He appears on a lot of 'bro' podcasts and his routines get posted on Reddit red pill forums and 4 Chan. He's married to a black woman which freaks out the dudes that post his shit. So he's that kinda guy. He's always been straight up though with his hate and biases so I think he's just a fucked up white dude and I appreciate that he's out there with it all, take it or leave it, unlike some of these phony guys. I chose to leave it but he's not as sneaky and conniving as a Louis CK who was hiding in plain sight for years.

by Anonymousreply 154October 11, 2020 6:20 PM

Another who certainly wasn't offended. I just thought it was stupid. As others have said, there have been SO many jokes or commentaries on how black pride month is the shortest month. And, sure we weren't enslaved, but we've been killed, beaten and forced into secrecy since the beginning of time.

It would have been funnier to have a battle of oppressed, with the winner getting August.

by Anonymousreply 155October 11, 2020 6:35 PM
"This person should never have been allowed to host this show."

The OP, and those who agree with the OP, are the modern version of book burners. "Should never be allowed to....." is not only something a bitch old white woman from the 1940s would say, it's also become a dangerous rallying cry to police and restrict free expression and art and opinion.

People like you truly frighten me OP. I'm a gay guy, I have no idea who this man is, he's never impacted my life and he never will. I no more want to silence him than I want him to silence me. But keep on pushing for this kind of thing. Eventually, they will come for you.

by Anonymousreply 156October 11, 2020 6:41 PM

I just watched the monologue.

It's really cringy to have a white man mocking/lecturing women, gays, and blacks on how oppressed they are or are not.

It's not a good look.

One rule of comedy: You always punch UP.

by Anonymousreply 157October 11, 2020 6:47 PM

You can never win with these people who defend homophobic "humor". We always have to hear about how homophobia jokes are protected speech, how you are humorless if you disagree, and how guys who make lazy fag jokes are actually cutting-edge social critics. Give me a break. Out of all the possible jokes for his seven minutes, he goes to fag jokes? I don't have to like it.

by Anonymousreply 158October 11, 2020 6:48 PM

It's always OK to say anything, as long as you are joking. FAG.

by Anonymousreply 159October 11, 2020 6:51 PM

R30 and R156 and any others with similar views...AMEN!

by Anonymousreply 160October 11, 2020 6:56 PM

I think his biggest crime is that he wasn’t funny. Someone else could have told similar jokes that would have been tounge in cheek.

But his delivery and the fact that he just isn’t funny did him in.

by Anonymousreply 161October 11, 2020 6:57 PM

I've heard that one before about Blacks only getting 28 days.

Let's see...thirty days hath September, April, JUNE....

The gays get 30. Why not 31 for both?

by Anonymousreply 162October 11, 2020 7:10 PM

Yeah, fuck Bill Barr!

by Anonymousreply 163October 11, 2020 7:12 PM

The topics didn't offend me. A good joke can be about anything. If it's funny it's funny. Bill just wasn't that funny

His stand up is funny. It's not intelligent stand up (most stand up isn't), but it's still funny. He was just lame on SNL

Michael Che was Hilarious

by Anonymousreply 164October 11, 2020 7:26 PM

The mafia skit was funny, but it was still kind of lame. They tried to hard to have too much in the joke

complaining about cancel culture and wokeness is something an 80 yr old grandpa would do. It's stale. I've heard much better jokes about this from other comedians

by Anonymousreply 165October 11, 2020 7:28 PM
One rule of comedy: You always punch UP.

First rule of comedy: BE FUNNY!

by Anonymousreply 166October 11, 2020 7:29 PM

Burr is edgy and very funny - crazed and usually sensible under his trash-mouth-hate-everyone routine.

But NOW is the time to crap this out? NOW? Why, Bill? Who are you talking to?

Nope. I could say, "point taken," and there is something funny about the cold, wet February line, but it also ignore Juneteenth and the fact that people are still calling for gays to be killed and the new SCOTUS is threatening to take our marriage rights away.

So, Fuck you, Bill. And not in the nice way gay people enjoy.

by Anonymousreply 167October 11, 2020 7:38 PM

R165 it’s not stale, we’re living in the middle of it. Are you the arbiter of what topics comedians can focus on and what constitutes as funny? Also for someone who supposedly is against stereotypes, you gave yourself away with denigration of “80-year-old grandpa”. I guess ageism is fine along with canceling people for not conforming to standards okay’d by you. We can rag on him without demanding him to be canceled

The guy isn’t funny on SNL but he’s not an unknown comedian. He has a lot of black fans and if you see his sets, his main targets of jokes are women and black culture. Some are funny, like the stuff about black athletes vs. white athletes. But his stuff gets old, I guess if I had to categorize him, I’d compare him to Dave Chappelle.

by Anonymousreply 168October 11, 2020 7:39 PM

Here's the thing, someone saying a joke isn't funny it's just criticism. It's not cancel culture.

Are we not allowed to criticise something for not being funny?

Are we not allowed to voice our thoughts?

No one is saying cancel him. He hasn't lost any business/shows

bill burr is a snowflake who wants everyone to praise him as if he just invented the first joke ever

Sorry Bill, we don't hand out participation trophies to every comedian

by Anonymousreply 169October 11, 2020 7:44 PM

It was a funny set. Lighten up people.

by Anonymousreply 170October 11, 2020 7:52 PM

I didn't know who he was either. (And I watched Breaking Bad...who did he play?) The monologue just made me uncomfortable, and by the end of the show I thought, wow, this guy only plays angry people. However I loved Michael Che! (I know that's an unpopular opinion around here, but Weekend Update is about the only thing that makes me laugh on this crappy show anymore.)

by Anonymousreply 171October 11, 2020 7:53 PM

R169 that’s exactly the point. But people on Twitter on going extra in over sensitive outrage, saying that he should be canceled. Two very different things. They said he should be canceled because first he’s racist, that’s before they found out his wife is black and he has a lot of black fans. Then they said oh no, he’s homophobic so he’s got to go. I agree his comedy routines sometimes go where few would go. Women and black culture are his main source of jibes. He’s kind if like Dave Chappelle, who compared Hillary to Darth Vader and why maybe we should give Trump a chance. Misogynistic comedians, and we’re surprised they’d not joke about gays?

by Anonymousreply 172October 11, 2020 8:03 PM
But people on Twitter on going extra in over sensitive outrage, saying that he should be canceled.

No, for the most part they are criticizing him.

A lot of woke people are complaining. It's annoying, but that's not cancel culture. I didn't mind his topics, the jokes just weren't funny

Not that long ago, bill burr was singing a different tune

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 173October 11, 2020 9:30 PM

let’s cancel Tracy Morgan instead

by Anonymousreply 174October 11, 2020 9:57 PM

I'm so happy we have straight guys putting us in our place. We've been so uppity lately what with not being enslaved or getting killed by cops. Who do we think we are?

by Anonymousreply 175October 11, 2020 10:25 PM

The bottom line, this man simply isn't funny. Burr has been around forever, yet many here don't seem to be aware of that. Lots of comedians could get away with this fool's shtick, but his overall presentation simply isn't funny.

Why Lorne asked him to host is beyond me. Doesn't Lorne pride himself on hiring 'current' performers to host his show or, at least, well-established performers who aren't this level of offensive and unfunny?

The country performer's appearance was cancelled due to a clip of him partying without mask, yet Lorne hires this misogynist unfunny piece of shit comedian to host? Pretty sure Lorne knew about this guy's rep, so why hire him?

Louis CK is equally unfunny and disgusting, didn't he host SNL and make a joke about a baby getting raped? Who enjoys this shit? There is nothing about a baby getting raped which would be considered funny.

by Anonymousreply 176October 11, 2020 10:32 PM

What did he say that was so awful? So offensive? The white women schtick has been said on here multiple times and not necessarily untrue. He is hardly the first comedian to make the joke about black history month being the shortest month of the year. Did he say he hated gays? No. He was just talking about pride month being in summer. C'mon guys. Calm the fuck down. Or pretty soon there is gonna be no one left to cancel.

by Anonymousreply 177October 11, 2020 10:42 PM

So making fun of gay people is OK but even the mildest rebuke of anything trans makes you a non-person. Got it.

by Anonymousreply 178October 11, 2020 10:42 PM

There was nothing homophobic in his comedic stand-up skit.

How dumb are half the people on this thread?

by Anonymousreply 179October 11, 2020 10:44 PM

Didn't Chris Rock already do a bit about Black History Month being 28 days? Burr can'y even steal material well.

by Anonymousreply 180October 11, 2020 10:45 PM

What is OP talking about? Bill Burr was well known long before yesterday. He is actually very funny.

by Anonymousreply 181October 11, 2020 10:46 PM

I didn't watch the clip but Bill Burr is typically very funny. Social media erupts at anger over anything that "triggers" them without paying attention to context so this is hardly a first.

by Anonymousreply 182October 11, 2020 10:49 PM

Bill Burr is funny. I heard all this stuff already from his stand up. No surprise.

by Anonymousreply 183October 11, 2020 10:51 PM

Lots of hets here defending another het. No surprise there.

by Anonymousreply 184October 11, 2020 10:53 PM

He may not be your taste, but his joke was NOT homophobic in any way. The set up was clumsy and could've been more insightful, but I think nerves got to him. The audience in studio was with him and laughed and applauded.

This is really just fake news to get people to tune in.

by Anonymousreply 185October 11, 2020 11:00 PM

I would boycott SNL, but, I've been boycotting the show for the past 15-20 years because it's so fucking unfunny.

by Anonymousreply 186October 11, 2020 11:03 PM

I don’t see the issue. If I want to see homophobia racism and misogyny I come here. Why is it a problem when other people do it? If you want self hatred read a couple of threads on here.

This pearl clutching “ omg someone said something mean about me “ is why we are all in this shit together. Do you honestly think by stopping speech you can stop thoughts? Cause I am pretty sure Gay people existed forever and yet according to history we kind of were non spoken about, yet here we are.

Grow a set of balls, life is not Disney, you don’t always get what you want l. Fucking man up.

by Anonymousreply 187October 11, 2020 11:06 PM

I am baffled by this guy's success. I have seen him on multiple shows and never once have I found him funny.

by Anonymousreply 188October 11, 2020 11:08 PM

Cancel Culture is Out of Control!

R38 wants to cancel the working-class.

by Anonymousreply 189October 11, 2020 11:10 PM

DL curmudgeons decry SNL like clockwork every Autumn. As reliable and dreary and easy as mug cradling and worst trick or treat candy. It's like autopilot. Burr provided low hanging fruit. HOW VERY DARE HE. And all the people who "never watch" SNL have to remind us that they haven't watched it in 30 years. Oh, yeah, we know.

by Anonymousreply 190October 11, 2020 11:10 PM

I just didn't think he was funny.

I don't mind any joke about anything. But it has to be FUNNY.

by Anonymousreply 191October 11, 2020 11:13 PM

I don’t watch SNL because I don’t get it. I wasn’t raised in the US but of course grew up with American films and tv and comedians but SNL is the only American comedy show that I’ve never been able to “get” despite trying very when I first moved here because it was such a water cooler show. I will watch clips when people post them here and all I see is people trying very hard to be funny and sometimes appearing to be under the impression that if they shout a line very loudly it will be funnier. Strange show to me but I know most people enjoy it and it’s longevity speaks for itself. The popularity of SNL, American football and bumper stickers are the 3 things about American life that totally baffle me.

by Anonymousreply 192October 11, 2020 11:22 PM

But...but... I thought it was only black people that are homophobic.🙄

I swear, why are all of these “comedians” so fucking ugly?

by Anonymousreply 193October 11, 2020 11:27 PM

Having to hide their homophobia under the cloak of wokism and black chauvinism - this is what white straight guys have been reduced to.
I would boycott SNL, but, I've been boycotting the show for the past 15-20 years because it's so fucking unfunny.

That makes two of us.

I swear I won’t miss many of these 50+ assholes when they start dying off. That generation is so fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 196October 11, 2020 11:32 PM
I’d compare him to Dave Chappelle.

But Dave is actually FUNNY. The sketch with him and guitarist John Mayer and Questlove and Dave's Prince sketch were hysterical.

The True Hollywood Story sketch by the late Charlie Murphy, about this encounter with Rick James, was one of the funniest sketches I've ever seen on any comedy show. You are going to compare this screeching male harpy Burr to actually funny comedians?!

Also, Burr sure doesn't get a pass because his wife is Black, who gives a fuck. Lots of racists marry outside their race, same with xenophobes.

by Anonymousreply 197October 11, 2020 11:32 PM

He looks like if Golem had leukemia. Fuck off you 65yo college comic.

by Anonymousreply 198October 11, 2020 11:33 PM

R194, most homophobes aren't "woke" and don't pretend to be

by Anonymousreply 199October 11, 2020 11:37 PM

Don’t tell me how to feel about this unfunny schlock. SNL has been enabling this cryptodeplorable crap since day one. They gave Victoria fucking Jackson a career.
Also, Burr sure doesn't get a pass because his wife is Black, who gives a fuck. Lots of racists marry outside their race, same with xenophobes.

They love him on LSA because he has a black wife and they get all excited and worship any white man that dates/married black (no matter how ugly or worthless the guy). Sad.

by Anonymousreply 201October 11, 2020 11:39 PM

R187, freedom of speech means freedom to criticize. Criticizing people isn't canceling them, except according to Republicans

Why don't you "man up" and stop defending homophobes. I can't think of anything less manly than being a doormat

Gay people used to have a sense of humor about themselves before the rest of the alphabet became so deathly serious about everything.

by Anonymousreply 205October 11, 2020 11:43 PM

Well, r197, I hate to break it to you, but Dave Chappelle thinks that Bill Burr is funny. In fact, he is pretty well respected in the comedy world.

So I get your trolling but WTF. So you think you can be more hateful than him? Guess what I bet he is a multi millionaire and people have heard of him. I have heard of him for years and I am not American. But you are just a rude bitter anonymous cunt who no one knows.

by Anonymousreply 207October 11, 2020 11:44 PM

Then gay white men get to say the n-word.

by Anonymousreply 208October 11, 2020 11:45 PM

If I say it’s homophobic, then it is homophobic and you better fucking get offended or you have gay and lesbian blood on your hands.

by Anonymousreply 209October 11, 2020 11:46 PM

Bill Burr has always been a piece of shit

by Anonymousreply 210October 11, 2020 11:46 PM

Bill Burr is the same asshole who said Michelle Obama needs to shut up and be quiet. I didn't like that ahit at all.

Fuck his dumb racist white ass.

by Anonymousreply 211October 11, 2020 11:47 PM

Heterosexual men are fucking disgusting. They leave shit all over their asses, they were ugly clothes made of toxic fabrics that rape the environment, and if it were legal to fuck children, they would. They already do and don’t fucking care whether it’s legal. But have sex with another adult man? That’s where they draw the line? They don’t deserve tolerance.

by Anonymousreply 212October 11, 2020 11:47 PM

He is funny. That particular joke wasn't because it just seemed dated and poorly executed. He did the same white women stick which is funny but has had better timing then he had for that monologue. His act didn't impress me that much because I heard it before and I wanted some new material.

Didn't find it in the least bit homophobic. Unclutch pearls.

by Anonymousreply 213October 11, 2020 11:47 PM

R205, why don't you lighten up?

Why attack other posters just because they're standing up for other gay people?

Most of us have a sense of humor, we just like intelligent humor, not shit aimed at the lowest common denominator

by Anonymousreply 214October 11, 2020 11:48 PM

R208 Bitch you already say it anyway. And what does black people have to do with this anyway?

Any opportunity to come at black people I guess.

by Anonymousreply 215October 11, 2020 11:48 PM

R213 still loves him for teaching her about lotion. Uh, no. Marrying a black woman did not give him credit.

by Anonymousreply 216October 11, 2020 11:49 PM

R209, but everyone has to line up and praise a homophobic straight guy or else they'll be accused of being "too pc" or not having a sense of humor

by Anonymousreply 219October 11, 2020 11:50 PM

r216, ah you outed yourself for being a fan and watching his stand up

by Anonymousreply 220October 11, 2020 11:51 PM

He's just another American Cracker. Nothing new here.

by Anonymousreply 221October 11, 2020 11:52 PM

Heterosexuality is wrong. Just plain wrong. We do not need to keep promoting it in popular culture.

by Anonymousreply 222October 11, 2020 11:53 PM
Well, [R197], I hate to break it to you, but Dave Chappelle thinks that Bill Burr is funny. In fact, he is pretty well respected in the comedy world.

WHY should Dave liking this screaming fool change my opinion on Dave's comedy? One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Surely you must comprehend that.

Am I supposed to suddenly enjoy a performer I cannot stand because a performer I enjoy admires them? That wouldn't make any sense at all. Your logic is not logic! LOL

Over the years, there have been certain things Dave said which I found offensive, but, overall, Dave is a million times funnier than this moron.

by Anonymousreply 223October 11, 2020 11:53 PM

He looks like he smells like Vomit.

by Anonymousreply 224October 11, 2020 11:59 PM

At least Dave Chapelle has a sense of comic timing.

by Anonymousreply 225October 11, 2020 11:59 PM

Lord, why are these supposed straight men so fucking obsessed with us? It’s really creepy.

by Anonymousreply 226October 12, 2020 12:01 AM

Why are gay men the only oppressed minority that is not allowed to object to derogatory "humor" from a straight white guy?

by Anonymousreply 227October 12, 2020 12:01 AM

The joke about Pride Month vs Black History Month didn't hit. The white women stealing the "woke movement" was hilarious though. SNL has already done funny bits on BHM being shorter than others (one had Kenan Thompson, Sasheer Zamata & Jay Pharaoh singing about 28 reasons to hug a black person, etc.), so whomever screens the monologue should have ditched the Pride Month/ Black History Month joke. It's October anyway. Not a big fan of Burr, but for some reason he is respected among other comics. This was def. not the year for him to host.

by Anonymousreply 228October 12, 2020 12:03 AM

Black people have been and continue to be the most oppressed group of people in American history.

It's well documented.

by Anonymousreply 229October 12, 2020 12:03 AM
Guess what I bet he is a multi millionaire and people have heard of him. I have heard of him for years and I am not American. But you are just a rude bitter anonymous cunt who no one knows.

Yes, it's so funny how people are saying they never heard of him, as if that means anything. You probably don't know who invented the microwave either. Doesn't mean they are unimportant or nobodies. He is very well known and respected in the comedy world.

by Anonymousreply 230October 12, 2020 12:10 AM
Why are gay men the only oppressed minority that is not allowed to object to derogatory "humor" from a straight white guy?

Because heterosexual white men and heterosexual black men bond over mutual homophobia. They will both pay the price for their treachery and bigotry.

Don't forget it.

by Anonymousreply 235October 12, 2020 12:18 AM

I had never heard of Bill Burr. Whole SNL is a waste of time. Just get rid of it or hire some competent talent and writers.

by Anonymousreply 236October 12, 2020 12:39 AM

R236, And yet SNL is all anyone is talking about today, just like every other week. Even in 2020, SNL is the most important show for all things social and political in America.

by Anonymousreply 237October 12, 2020 12:45 AM

r233 if he had joked that he knew it was black history month because of stereotypical black style/fashion/body types he'd be getting slaughtered by the media.

by Anonymousreply 238October 12, 2020 12:46 AM

Does his fanbase even watch SNL?

by Anonymousreply 239October 12, 2020 12:49 AM
He looks like he smells like Vomit.

The pretty well encapsulates what this Burr dude is about. I reckon he appears to binge drinking straight white Right Wing working class men. Burr's rep is about him not being a Liberal and speaking for a certain demo. Lump him in with Tim Allen and former SNL member Dennis Miller.

Much in the same way that white working class beer bellied (men and women!) MAGATs think Drumpf actually speaks for them, meanwhile he despises his base and calls them "disgusting people.". It's the same with a certain type of comedian, their fanbase actually thinks they speak for them.

by Anonymousreply 240October 12, 2020 1:01 AM

just another typical white hetero male unaware of his privilege and not caring. It's just sad he's given a platform.

but you know good ol' Lorne felt SNL needed "a regular American" after Chris Rock last week and Issa Rae next week

by Anonymousreply 241October 12, 2020 1:05 AM

The posters obsessed with defending this asshole are obviously trolls. Or have serious self loathing issues.

by Anonymousreply 242October 12, 2020 1:08 AM

I would have more respect if he actually went after targets that actually could get him cancelled. Gays and white women do not have the power to do that, the tide has turned against them.

So no kudos from me.

by Anonymousreply 243October 12, 2020 1:08 AM

Wait, he hosted SNL? That's really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Were G and M too busy to host? Lame!

by Anonymousreply 244October 12, 2020 1:09 AM

You can't even make fun of Trump's obesity without SJWs screaming "FAT SHAMING IS NEVER OKAY," but a straight white guy making fun of gays? "It's just a joke/he's a comedian/that's what standup is about"

by Anonymousreply 245October 12, 2020 1:13 AM

Isn't his brother a Republican state-level politician in Massachusetts? That said, I believe this particular asshole is a Libertarian who boasted that he had voted for Gary Johnson.

by Anonymousreply 246October 12, 2020 1:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 247October 12, 2020 1:27 AM

How much do you think you can push Straight White Guys on all their problems and make them the scapegoats for everything evil in the world before it comes back and bites us on the ass. Only in the Anglosphere could you attack the male majority and think there will be no response. In any other country you would be screwed and not in a nice way. Go to an Islamic Country and start yelling how homophobic they are and see what happens. Only in privileged Anglo countries can you piss on the majority and not expect any ramifications. I wonder how long that will last for before the inevitable backlash?

by Anonymousreply 248October 12, 2020 1:34 AM

It's weird that you never see the "there are no trolls on Datalounge" guys on threads like this which are full of R248 types.

Like we're supposed to believe some dipshit who randomly capitalizes words and cares so, so much about the plight of the straight man is posting in good faith on Datalounge of all places.

by Anonymousreply 249October 12, 2020 1:36 AM

I don't know where you've been R245 but it's the people you'd call "SJWs" who are complaining about Barr on Twitter.

There's a whole lot of "gays are the only truly oppressed group" trolling going on here lately and I'm wondering what the point of it is.

by Anonymousreply 250October 12, 2020 1:37 AM

If you’re going to make gay jokes, at least be more creative. His “joke” was dated and lame. Not surprised though - he’s 52, so old and out of touch.

by Anonymousreply 251October 12, 2020 1:39 AM

I think SNL's problems are bigger than Bill Burr, namely, that's the talent pool they are reduced to: youtube standups. Can Tyler Oakley be far behind?

by Anonymousreply 252October 12, 2020 1:42 AM

gays have been completely erased from the democrats equation in favor of trans folks and purple haired straight girls (queer). Fuck Biden and that stupid homophobic asswipe Harris.

by Anonymousreply 253October 12, 2020 1:43 AM

I don’t care about the plight of White Men r249. I care about reality versus fantasy. Gay men make up what 2% if the population, maybe 5-7 if we are being generous . So tell me how spitting on more than 90% of the population works? Do you think that Gay people that fought for our rights are the only people who can fight?

What I am saying is we have it good. Go to 80% of the world and you wouldn’t have it as good. I am saying calling people names and trying to pull them down doesn’t help you. It feeds the very thing you hate.

bill burr is for people who miss Larry the Cable Guy. It's lowest common denominator comedy. Plus, there's only so much of his shrill whiny voice I can handle

Bill Burr has a lot of black fans? Uh no. His fans are almost entirely white hetero working class bros. He and Joe Rogan share an audience and he’s sort of embarrassed by that but he is who he is. He has no range at all, which is why he will never be one of the greats. He’s limited and appeals to the stupid. Much like Pete Davidson. They’re a type.

On the other hand you have Desus and Mero who are also working class Bronx bros who are funny as hell.

by Anonymousreply 266October 12, 2020 4:13 AM

I laughed.

by Anonymousreply 267October 12, 2020 4:19 AM

That was painful to watch, not because of the bad joke, because the whole monologue forced and unfunny. The kind of thing SNL got known for when people ask why it's still on the air. It was almost as bad as that Donald Trump one they did when he was running for president. So humorless.

by Anonymousreply 268October 12, 2020 4:19 AM

I thought he was really funny. I'm gay.

by Anonymousreply 269October 12, 2020 4:22 AM

Got about 55 blocked. Let me know if I missed you if you thought he was a comedic genius.

by Anonymousreply 270October 12, 2020 4:22 AM

OP-Burr is a popular stand-up, has had multiple specials (including "Paper Tiger" last year), created the animated series "F for Family," and as someone else pointed out, was in multiple episodes of Breaking Bad. Just because you are unfamiliar with him, doesn't mean that "no one" heard of him. I saw him in person a few years ago and he killed.

by Anonymousreply 271October 12, 2020 4:24 AM

He's not hugely well known--OP is right in that regard. But he is one of the best known stand-up comedians. From the early days SNL has often given hosting gigs to well-known stand-up comedians and comedy writers (like George Carlin and Buck Henry).

My biggest problem with Bill Burr is that's he so fucking ugly.

by Anonymousreply 272October 12, 2020 4:35 AM

R272 LOL!

by Anonymousreply 273October 12, 2020 4:36 AM

Likely because he's married to a Black woman.

I cannot believe the shit they are posting there about this creep.

by Anonymousreply 274October 12, 2020 5:46 AM

LSA just LOVE a white guy that is down with the swirl.

by Anonymousreply 275October 12, 2020 5:47 AM

I for one never been to a comedy club. I find stand up comedy to be lazy and the final destination of unfunny writers who couldn't succeed in literature or film. This guy is no exception.

by Anonymousreply 276October 12, 2020 6:01 AM

I fast-forwarded the rest of his monologue after he started talking about how much he hates women (with their “coochie shoes”). This guy is a scumbag. And I don’t think I’ve seen a less funny episode of SNL since Adam Sandler was the dominant face of the show.

by Anonymousreply 277October 12, 2020 6:08 AM

R261 Every large city that has a disproportionate number of gays in the population because we leave small towns and cities and move to the big, gay friendly cities. It’s like saying how can only 2% of humans be gay if West Hollywood is 35% gay. Pride parades also attract allies in the large cities who come because its fun and everyone gets to join in unlike other parades that are more regimented.

R276 Most stand ups never tried to break into literature or film. Stand up is the first destination which is probably why many comedians are very fucked up people and why they are the subject of so many documentaries. They are interesting because it’s a very weird job/interest and for most of them it’s the first destination and centre of their life. When stand ups fail to break into the big time they can end up writing for TV esp these days but rarely the other way around. For a long time stand ups found it very hard to get TV writing gigs because writers rooms were staffed with male Harvard grads and guys who had been copywriters. Roseanne had a hard time getting stand ups hired to write her show when she felt the TV writers couldn’t capture the world of the working class.

by Anonymousreply 278October 12, 2020 6:12 AM

R277 He was referring to "Gucci" boots. Gucci (pronounced "goochee") is a designer label.

And to be fair, he did not say he hated the women, or women in general. I don't like Bill Burr's brand of comedy, but that is just straight up lazy on your part to reduce a three minute observational comedy bit down to: "I hate women!!! With their damn coochie shoes!"

He was just being generally obnoxious while sharing his "observations" about how privileged white women have co-opted the "Woke" movement that was originally meant to give disenfranchised blacks a voice and a positive identity.

by Anonymousreply 281October 12, 2020 6:31 AM

He should have chosen LuLu Lemon as the brand of choice for woke, rich, white women.

Guccis are worn by white women who believe only little people pay taxes and poor people who buy them on credit cards.

by Anonymousreply 282October 12, 2020 6:37 AM
I for one never been to a comedy club. I find stand up comedy to be lazy

That would be IMPROVE comedy. It's just make shit up while you are on stage, more often than not it's not funny feels more like a high school acting class than actual entertainment from a professional comedian.

Stand up at least if they are good at it spend weeks, months writing and practicing their performance on stage. This guy on SNL sucked however, you can tell the audience gave him an awkward polite lackluster laugh.

A lot of posters on this thread seem to have missed the part where he characterized his own demographic group as toxic white males who are guilty of crimes against humanity.

The setup for the gay pride joke was clunky but the punchline was not homophobic. He talked about guys kissing in an 'oh that makes sense' way, not an 'ew, gross' way. And his bit about white women profiting from the toxic behavior of white men throughout history was spot fucking on. Hence, white women on Twitter are up in arms about it!

P.S., if you haven't watched "F is for Family", his animated show on Netflix, you're missing out. It's hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 286October 12, 2020 7:06 AM
The setup for the gay pride joke was clunky but the punchline was not homophobic.

It wasn't funny either. My reaction was hu? No Ha,ha. Just a weird conclusion for a punch line. He also lost me with the setup when he said he was 50 years old and didn't know about pride month. What rock do you live under that you never heard that?

Those unhinged LSA secure-the-bag types are 'Groaning' anyone who doesn't agree with them. They all seem so pathetic, groveling over this creepy misogynistic white man. All they seem to care about is Black women marrying a rich or famous man. LSA posters seem to hate strong intelligent women who can take care of themselves, their thinking is so backwards.

I bet if a Black male comedian said the same things about Black women, which Burr says about white women, they'd be having major meltdowns.
He also lost me with the setup when he said he was 50 years old and didn't know about pride month. What rock do you live under that you never heard that?

I interpreted it as ironic in a self-mocking way, R287. As in, "Look at what an out-of-touch straight white doofus I am. I'd never even heard of pride month!" It's a comedic persona. Granted, I don't think that it worked well in this instance but I also don't think that there was malintent behind it.

by Anonymousreply 289October 12, 2020 7:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 291October 12, 2020 7:48 AM

I'm not sure whose opinions on anything I care about less: the obese, racist femcels at LSA or bald, misogynist, homophobe, Irish cursed Bill Burr.

by Anonymousreply 292October 12, 2020 7:54 AM

This whole subject is already decided. Like so many topics today the OP has already decided Burr is a Homophobe and sexist ect. Unfortunately so many people are labeled as sexist or homophobic or rascist that you start to become immune to it.

I liked when we could say we were all those things and of course we are. Just look at a Gay guy’s Grindr and the amount of times you will see “Straight Acting” shows the amount of homophobia within our own community. What makes you think the Straight Community would treat us better than we treat ourselves.

Self-loathing breeder enabling trash like R312 will also be shot as collaborators.

What really bothers me about the reaction to Burr is that its just so ignorant.

If you watch and listen to him for 2 minutes, I'm sure he comes across as a blue collar, super masculine, closed minded conservative bully who hates gays. It's not who he is or what is act is.

That Netflix cartoon had one good season before it degenerated into repetitious nonsense and revealed itself as just another [italic]Simpsons/Family Guy[/italic] clone divided by [italic]All in the Family[/italic].

The Black women at LSA defending this POS misogynistic asshole was shocking.

Of course, they were praising his Black wife with the bad wig. The women at LSA despise all white women, yet adore white men, especially when those misogynistic white men they drool over, are rich. LSA is all about securing the purse.

That's funny because a big part of his comedy is him being afraid of women taking his money.

Hate speech causes hate crimes. It is not correlation, it is fucking causation.
