So, like Walgreen's?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 11, 2020 1:29 AM |
Klassy OP. The DL Klassy Kweens are creaming their caftans about now I suspect.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 11, 2020 1:29 AM |
How I wish they had done this in the 1980s!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 11, 2020 1:30 AM |
Yeah, because what America needs right now are more stores🙄
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 11, 2020 1:34 AM |
It looks like it'd take forever to get checked out. PASS.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 11, 2020 1:35 AM |
Five Dollar General?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 11, 2020 1:38 AM |
Mark up the same crap and keep the store tidy. The suckers will go for it!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 11, 2020 1:40 AM |
Does this mean we won’t have to step over boxes and trash and wait in a line of 9 people for one cashier to check everyone out?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 11, 2020 1:41 AM |
I’ve never been in a Dollar General and this doesn’t rouse my interest.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 11, 2020 1:50 AM |
The Dollar Store wanted to open in my town. We fought it tooth and nail. No way this place is becoming a slum
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 11, 2020 1:59 AM |
Do you live in Eagleton, Indiana?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 11, 2020 2:02 AM |
Dollar General higher class store = Party City + Walgreens/CVS
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 11, 2020 2:04 AM |
Is it the Two Dollar Store?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 11, 2020 2:08 AM |
What's it called?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 11, 2020 2:08 AM |
Desperation General
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 11, 2020 2:14 AM |
EURO OR POUND General Store?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 11, 2020 2:32 AM |
Pound cake, R17
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 11, 2020 2:51 AM |
Trying to compete with Five Below. More junk from China.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 11, 2020 3:01 AM |
I've never been inside a Dollar General. It does sound like Five Below (article is blocked for me). I went in that store exactly once and the chemical odor from all the Chinese crap made me feel ill.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 11, 2020 3:03 AM |
$1.10 stores?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 11, 2020 3:08 AM |
Très chic!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 11, 2020 3:23 AM |
There's a Japanese convenience store in my town that always has a huge line. It has the lamest collection of stuff I've ever seen. It's called Daiso. DG should study them to find out why they are so popular people will wait in line for half an hour to go in....to a convenience store!

Hello Kitty.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 11, 2020 4:15 AM |
I don't shop at Dollar Stores. They reek of poverty.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 11, 2020 4:22 AM |
In my area we have Dollar Tree, nothing is over a dollar., great deals on a lot of stuff. You just can't beat it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 11, 2020 4:33 AM |
By higher class do they mean that they offer bath soaps that aren't made in China and shampoo brands other than White Rain? If so, I'm all in!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 11, 2020 4:50 AM |
Dollar General (and Family Dollar, which is owned by Dollar Tree) are not single-price "dollar stores" like Dollar Tree or the 99 Cents Only chain.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 11, 2020 5:14 AM |
R23. We have a Daiso near where I live. I do not get it. When they first opened, I thought there was a major Hollywood Premiere.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 11, 2020 6:06 AM |
They could go slightly upmarket by calling it Poundland...that's $1.30 in American money.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 11, 2020 7:50 AM |
Your local grocery chain has much better sales with much better to offer. Dollar Generals and Dollar Trees are strategically placed among the downtrodden who likely don't possess reliable transportation, thereby necessitating a walk to the local Dollar store for their goods using their EBT cards.
I'm guessing the new, more upscale Dollar stores are for the ones collecting corporate welfare? Haha
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 11, 2020 3:33 PM |
Dollar stores need to take Dollar out of their names for the same reason we no longer have five and ten cent stores. Aside from inflation, in our current mudslide of a socioeconomic condition, stores like Dollar General will become the new upscale and the new Dollar Generals will be dumpsters.

Based on the knowledge of their products you have, I’d say you’re already all in.

Unfortunately that name has already been trademarked by a porn store chain in the area.

I assume you mean the cigarettes.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 11, 2020 4:18 PM |
I’m so fucking excited about this
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 11, 2020 4:35 PM |
Cheap whores rejoice!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 11, 2020 4:39 PM |
r32 As I mentioned upthread, Family Dollar and Dollar General are not single-price stores. They sell all kinds of merchandise at all different prices. So the "dollar" part of their name doesn't have anything to do with their pricing.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 11, 2020 5:10 PM |
I’ve never even SEEN one of these stores.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 11, 2020 5:14 PM |
I can’t read the article so I’m not sure what the store is called, but Dollar General opened an urban format store called DG at the bottom of a newer apartment building in Midtown Atlanta, and it’s been a hit. It’s not really a “dollar store,,” but is essentially something like a larger, cleaner bodega, and perfect for dense areas.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 11, 2020 5:22 PM |
I like Dollar Tree. Here in the Ft. Lauderdale area, most are clean and stocked. The help are always very nice.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 11, 2020 5:22 PM |
How is their poundcake?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 11, 2020 5:30 PM |
What do I get for 10 dollar? Anyting you want!
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 11, 2020 5:33 PM |
I never understood the hype with DG. They really aren’t all that cheap. I only like the Dollar Tree because you know nothing is going to cost more than a dollar.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 11, 2020 5:36 PM |
Fuck that. Another vote for Daiso. I lived, if briefly, in Japan. Daiso is amazing for cheap-ass middle class queens like me.
I'll even take South Korea's Daiso spin-off.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 11, 2020 5:43 PM |
Really, America needs more retail?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 11, 2020 5:45 PM |
There's a gaybobber cashier at my local Dollar Tree who always gets huffy when I say I don't need a bag.
I always wonder if he's one of DL's conservative contributors.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 11, 2020 6:01 PM |
I thought Walmart was already taken
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 11, 2020 6:08 PM |
Bless you, r18. I've moved on to bigger fish!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 11, 2020 6:37 PM |
We never did get our 99 Cent Store on Rodeo Drive! Waahhh!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 11, 2020 9:07 PM |

Mention pound cake to him and see what kind of a response you get.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 11, 2020 9:51 PM |
I've never been in one. The one closest to me, a standalone store, has always looked like a filthy junk shop from the outside. But now they've closed it down and moved to a shopping center where they took over the lease of a store that closed. They spent 2 months renovating the space and just moved in. When I was over that way recently I could see through the windows and it looked just like the OP photo. I may venture by tomorrow and see what they have to offer.

Oh you delicate flowers who would never think to slum and enter a shop for the poors!

Poor is one thing I am not, and I regularly shop at Dollar Tree & Big Lots. And my absolute favorite discount shop is Tuesday Morning. I can't count all the wonderful finds I have from TM.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 12, 2020 12:25 AM |
You realise R58, like you, I am well off but love crap stores, and I'm mocking the snob personas here.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 12, 2020 12:31 AM |
My apologies for making the wrong assumption R59.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 12, 2020 12:41 AM |
I hope there’s a glamorous ribbon cutting!
I’ll wear my best caftan.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 12, 2020 12:47 AM |
Your best of the two?!
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 12, 2020 12:53 AM |
R58 and R59 should go shopping together.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 12, 2020 1:09 AM |
That kicky lavender and white decor is a major step up from their usual dreary yellow-and-black.
