It's mostly fabricated. Sharon Stone was not on your with him. She would have been way too young. Just Like a Woman is about Edie Sedgwick. There was no Presidential Candidate Tanner. He was a character in the Robert Altman mockumentary Tanner '88. He's played by Michael Murphy.

Sam Shepard was on the tour, and his "Rolling Thunder Logbook" is an easy, fun read.
