He claimed he got cancer from a guitar pic not from his heavy smoking.

Search seems to be working again. I found all five threads.

It was throat cancer--what exactly was he doing with that guitar pick?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 6, 2020 8:29 PM |
I liked him, sad.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 6, 2020 8:33 PM |
Did he go the experimental treatment route?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 6, 2020 8:35 PM |
Val had the same "middle age before middle age" phase as Sharon Osbourne.

Never saw such an incredible group of talent pay tribute to someone on such short notice.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 6, 2020 8:44 PM |
He had a long goodbye.

I love when these heavy smokers are shocked that they have cancer
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 6, 2020 8:50 PM |
Do pole smokers get cancer too?

I used to work with a girl back in the '80s who was madly in love with two people, Eddie Van Halen and Jon Bon Jovi, and knew every single detail about each one of them. I used to figure that she liked to lose herself in thinking about them in order to forget the fact that she was married to an asshole who cheated on her (and who eventually left her for a younger woman). She was a sweetheart, though, so I didn't mind her talking about them.

He probably relied on smoking as an appetite supressant.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 6, 2020 9:07 PM |
I'm so sad and lonely.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 6, 2020 9:12 PM |
Sorry to hear. I didn't even know he had cancer.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 6, 2020 9:15 PM |
He part of his tongue removed some years back.

Valerie retweeted Wolfie's message.
Glenn Scarpelli put a nice throwback Thursday of Val, Eddie and him up a while back.

Eddie said that he thought he got the throat cancer from a metal guitar pick he used to hold in his mouth all the time rather than the cigarettes. Who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 6, 2020 10:31 PM |
Eddie was full of it.

Sadly, my thoughts immediately went to Valerie Bertinelli. They've probably been divorced longer than they were married, but I thought they were a cool couple.
He made a lasting impression on the lives of many...may he rest in peace.

Tough break, kid . It gets us all at some point. God speed!

All indications are that he was a pretty good dude. I work in music, and have friends who were acquainted with him. Said he was very nice, and enjoyed being incognito later in life.

He's now on a cloud smoking a cig with the naughty little angel on the cover of 1984.

His cancer was caused by a combination of alcohol, smoking and HPV. Did he ever hook up with CZJ?

R7 He originally had tongue cancer, had part of his tongue removed in 2000. In 2019 he revealed he had been flying to Germany for radiation treatments for a recurrence since 2014. In the past year he’d been in and out of the hospital and had chemotherapy. His cancer had metastasized to several places including his brain.
It was one of those long, slow deaths, apparently.

No music links? Here they are at their (imo) peak, live circa '78-'79, Dance The Night Away. EVH at his peak, before the band was marred by jealous infighting and over-commercial production and DLR slipped into drunken onstage carelessness.
Thanks for the memories Ed -

Preferred Van Hagar overall but their first album was still the best.

Rest in peace.

He and David Lee Roth clashed because Eddie was annoyed by DLR’s constant mugging, and talking and goofy antics—he was exhausting to be around off stage.
