"Shadows of the Night" - Pat Benatar
"Shadows of the Night" by Pat Benatar was originally written for the soundtrack to "Times Square" in 1981, but ultimately rejected by the label.
Rachel Sweet and Helen Schneider released solo recordings of the song, but the most successful version was by Benatar, which won her a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1983.

Midnight Angel
Won't you say you will?
(The only lyrics that Pat actually lip-synchs in the 1982 video!)

The video is sublime 80s ridiculousness. Pat's Rosie the Riveter turns pilot who flies behind enemy lines with her squadron, culminating with the German commander breaking his war map stick and everything blows up and Pat gives the A-Ok sign in the fading night sky.

Is Pat an example of someone who is more "sexy" than pretty or beautiful?

How did this woman every become a sex symbol? She was midget short, had no tits or ass, and had pop eyes and tombstone teeth. And those spandex leotards she always wore just emphasized her figure flaws. A sex symbol for the 80s, I guess.

It never really happened for Rachel Sweet, did it?

"How did this woman every become a sex symbol? "
I sort of get it. Being sexy doesn't always necessitate being traditionally attractive. It was the sexualized images, she seemed like she'd be up for sex.

Talent is sexy too. Mick Jagger didn't get laid by however many thousands of people because of his classic good looks.

Agree that this song is terrible. It’s so repetitive and dull. A real snoozer.

Pat Benatar always made hilariously bad videos. What was that one where she was playing a teenage runaway (she looked 30)? Was that "Love is a Battlefield?" I remember she was shaking her nonexistent tits in that one, too.

Yes, Love is a Battlefield. Awful, yet great. I enjoy laughing at it and enjoying the music.

R18 Correct. And while Pat doesn't really come across as sexy in music videos, she definitely has a sexy powerful stage presence. I could easily see how people found her sexy when I saw her live, and that was many years after her peak.

Did the squadron of hookers dance ALL night. When they left the club it was still dark, but they finish dancing and say their goodbyes in the daylight. I hope Pat took them for breakfast.

Pointing out the three girls dressed like Pat Benatar in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" was based what girls were wearing in San Diego high schools at the time.
