My mother received a coronavirus test before surgery last month, it took 30 minutes to get the result.

One possible reason to acknowledge a positive result so quickly is that he now has a minimum window of 14 days before he can campaign publicly. He had a rally scheduled tomorrow with practically daily events after, and he couldn't just bow out of those without an explanation.
