You'd think he would have wanted to capitalize on being Hillary's veep choice and maybe carry over her votes.
I wonder why Tim Kaine didn't run for president

He brought nothing to the table in 2016. Pretty much every candidate running in the primaries stood a better chance than Kaine ever would.

Tim Kaine is not delusional enough to think he had any chance to win the primary.
Hillary picked him precisely because he was a boring pick.

Why'd Hillary want a boring pick?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 29, 2020 3:20 AM |
She couldn't even pick a decent running mate.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 29, 2020 3:21 AM |
Because he is as boring as a bag of hammers and has the same level of personality. Actually, the bag of hammers would have more.

Who?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 29, 2020 3:24 AM |
She should have picked a younger more charismatic guy. His youth would have rubbed off on people's perception of her and made her more palatable to those who didn't like her or were uninspired to vote for her.

He had no presence and no look.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 29, 2020 3:30 AM |
She wanted someone she could groom to follow her instead of someone with a mind of his/her own. She ended up picking someone with a lapdog personality. She should have picked an attack dog instead to do the dirty work of attacking Trump/Pence.

Kaine looked scared in his debate with Pence.

I couldn’t pick Tim Kaine out of a police lineup.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 29, 2020 3:31 AM |
Dear God.

R11 is Mrs. Tim Kaine.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 29, 2020 3:33 AM |
Who else was on her shortlist? I can’t remember.

Unless you’re FDR, losing vice-presidential candidates don’t historically have much of a future as presidential candidates.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 29, 2020 4:32 AM |
People know he’s a closet gay.

I'm trying to see Trump as a cautionary tale, what can happen as a result of apathy. We can never let a Trump happen again.
But hopefully we can remove him before he does too much damage.

The Dems wanted to ensure a win in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Now VA is pretty much blue, but in 2016 it wasn't a sure thing. But you know what was a sure thing in 2016: MI, WI, PA.

Don't forget she wanted boring Kaine because she saw herself as the personification of a female Obama, a change agent. That's why we had the horrible, "I'm with her" campaign slogan for a minute. Even Trump's recycled slogan wasn't 100% about himself. She also hit people over the head with the annoying glass ceiling thing. She's such a 70s feminist, can't help but love her for being a relic.
Kaine is smart to keep his ass in the senate. He failed at his one job during the campaign and that was to embarrass Pence. Hillary should have just asked Joe to stay on for another round.

Hillary was also bound and determined to not pick a male who would have more personality than she did. That sets the bar lower to start because warmth and connection are not exactly her long suits, but she achieved that desire with Kaine. He was, and is, a cypher in socks.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 29, 2020 5:11 PM |
She picked Kaine because Virginia was not yet a blue state.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 29, 2020 5:16 PM |
He makes my skin crawl.

r21 Virginia was blue enough by 2016. She beat Trump by 5% (nearly 200k votes). VA was not of concern to Hillary and Kaine wasn't offered shit after that abysmal VP performance. I'm not even sure she let him stump for her after that mess.
Had she know today what she knew back then she could have plucked an unknown Beto out from oblivion in TX (a state they want to win) and he would have been a massive boon for her team. Hillary's folks were so risk-averse, with the exception of the email issues (they had to have known it would be a thing) that they didn't even try to be bold.
Imagine a Hillary/Beto ticket. He could appeal to the young, hungry for change, while she acts as the wise old stateswoman.
