Even so R74, you'd think that they'd make some attempt at portraying Sherlock the way he usually is.

Both The Seven-Per-Cent Solution and The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes involved some reimagining and God knows the Cumberbatch series did too, and they managed to keep the fundamental Sherlock personality intact. Unfortunately, that is something the bland Mr. Cavill would never be able to play convincingly.

The movie is clearly light and a more "Sherlock" Sherlock would drag it down.

Agreed R77 . I'll also add Cavill's Sherlock actually wasn't in the movie enough to show whether or not he was truly "Sherlock". The other brother was an obvious mustache twirling screeching villain who cared more about money than anything and drove Enola to melodramatic tears. Sherlock was there to be the gentle and kind brother who didn't quite understand the relationship between his mother and sister, but grew to be impressed by both. It was Enola's story, written to appeal to modern young girls, and each brother served his respective purpose within that story. I enjoyed it for what it is. I watched it to look at Cavill and was also pleasantly surprised by the young actor playing Enola's love interest.
