I was too young to know about it. Why was it shut down? What was the actual gist?
Someone Please Explain The Infamous Pasta Draining Thread

If you don't know what's wrong with draining spaghetti you must be middle class, OP

So, what does one do? Just turn off the burner and serve the pasta out of the pot?

Yeah, you can figure out things like Jackie On Assistance, but I have been around for 6 or 8 months and the pasta thing is mysterious.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 21, 2020 9:03 PM |
Well you don't drain it, R2.

Of course you're supposed to drain pasta, otherwise you might as well add vegetables, chicken and salt and call it soup.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 21, 2020 9:04 PM |
Incorrect, R5. Draining pasta is middle-class. That was the point of the whole thread.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 21, 2020 9:05 PM |
You don't drain pasta; you pluck it out of the pot.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 21, 2020 9:07 PM |
I suck the spaghetti right out of the boiling water. Kind of like bobbing for pasta.

Piss off, OP. This board would better without entities such as yourself who exaggerate about long-gone threads just to create filler.

I don’t know what you poor middle-class people are arguing about, I didn’t realize you had to make your own food. Where do you find the time? I’ll be sure to ask my assistant to ask the maid to ask the chef how he does it the next time she talks to him. I’ll get back to you then. Ta-ta for now!

I read this as "Pinga Draining".
Now I'm not interested.

The other day, I had the misfortune of landing on planet Hoda Jenna while flying thru cosmos of Comcast. There was a young lady showing everyone how to make pasta happen. When the pasta was ready, she stuck the entire strainer into pot and dumped it into the sink. I’ll see if I can find the link, it was strange.

I don't want water on my plate!

What difference does it make whether you drain it or not? If you don't drain it, lots of water gets on your plate.
I don't care what anyone says. I always drain, both pasta and noodles.

Ok, this is not what I saw. What I saw was someone on the Today show saying how great this pasta method is. This clip is also from the Today show, 3 years ago, saying it is dangerous and not good for your pasta. So, it’s all stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 21, 2020 9:21 PM |
Does it actually taste different, or is this just a comedy of manners?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 21, 2020 9:22 PM |
As far as I'm concerned, those who don't drain their pasta also have unsightly clotheslines and I want nothing to do with them!

It doesn't go directly onto your plate. You mix the pasta and the sauce together first, either in the pan you made the sauce in, or in a separate bowl if you're not using all the sauce.

I thought it was about using the precise volume of water to boil a given mass of pasta, so there is no excess water. Like a rice a roni instruction.

Strainer and pasta go hand-in-hand. When people think of a strainer, they think "draining pasta."
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 21, 2020 9:30 PM |
Of course you drain the pasta in a colander. No Italian's going to stand there fishing it out of the pot with a net. The one thing you don't do is rinse it.
